I think the main issue with this pick was that the Knicks probably could've gotten Balkman somewhere in the 2nd round, while using their first round pick to get a beterr player...in addition to Balkman.

True, and you're probably right. And although Williams had a better year than Mardy Collins (who the Knicks selected 29th), only time will tell if he will be THAT much better. Although, the Knicks already have decent guards, so I don't know why they even drafted Collins.

It wasn't so much that Thomas selected Balkman. It was that they selected Balkman when he no doubt would've been there 9 picks later at #29. They could've went ahead and taken Marcus Williams at #20 and Balkman at #29.

Knicks have Marbury who's good for a few more years, Crawford who if he ever gets his sh*t together and plays consistantly can be a great combo guard, and Mardy Collins who has great size for a PG (SG size 6'6), plays defense (unlike Williams) and can run the offense just as well, if not better than Marcus. And Mardy isn't a total headcase.

Conclusion: Mardy Collins >> Marcus Williams
