yes you must do that or else it will block the whole phone and leave it useless, it happened to me, i tried to unlock it with the sim inside and i broke it and took it back to apple see if they can fix it and they told me NO because what i did, unlocking it!

no, i got a new one because a guy that works on the local apple store (no names ok ) is a friend of mine and gave a new one to me in exchange of the broken one, apple has a recycle program, and i did a little cheat :P, but with the new one i DID unlock it and now i am using sprint :P
