i never played mutiplayer that much, but i used legionaries with hoplite mercs and shit ton of velitate skirmishers to rain the pain when enemy troops charged at my front lines

then ran behind my hoplites/legionnares, my calvarly harassed, scouted and smashed enemy lines, so im pretty sure my tactic was pretty damn good

@AlisdairTW completely agree. The battle are over way too fast, stronger units crush weaker units too quickly. Cavalry are too fragile (seriously, one volley of arrows from the weakest bow kill like 1/3 of the horse).

It all suddenly becomes a linear battle instead of complex maneuvers.

Indeed. If you want to add a touch of realism to RTW, download Europa Barbarorum, excellent mod. Roman post marian legions consisted of antesignani, cohors evocata and many more auxiliary units. The best part about this game is that it shows to me just how versatile the Roman legions really were :)
