Well, it's a simplification but I wouldn't say it is absurd. If they outsource your job to increase profit margins then you can hardly be blamed for failing to meet commitments, can you? I mean, governments can't seem to plan budgets more than five years in advance (if that!) so how can people plan intelligently for a period of 40-50 years?
In an economy with sufficient labour opportunities you can simply ply your marketable skills in another position - but increasingly there are no jobs.

If they outsource, one, if we are going to trade what is the difference in important goods from a place that hired people overseas and a company moving overseas?
