Different people look for different things in music. A pop fan would not care about auto tune because it's the completed track that is important. Production and auto tuning are seen as a legitimate part of the process. To a metal fan, ability of the band to perform and write original music is important. And why not? For a jazz performer, complex improvisation is important. Good for them, great for us. No one has the right to tell someone else what they should find important in music.
The point is that you may look down on pop, giving a reason and claiming its a serious defect and deserves to be viewed negatively. But it's all subjective, other people might look down on metal and see defects just as serious to them as auto-tuning is to you. I think its just best to accept music and not be snobbish to any type in particular.
People who like metal like to look down on pop music. Compared to Jazz, metal is BS. There's only ever a limited range of chord progressions, musical ideas, musical colour, development within a piece of music, limited use of harmony and of instruments and instrumentation. Also the level of instrument profiency is nowhere near that of a jazz musician. And there is no emotion in a cover of Paparazzi. So rather than look down at pop i think you need to look up to more creative forms of music.
@takeonme79 Well someones a bit cranky aren't they? Also, rock is a direct descendant of classical music, and since metal is a descendant of rock, it's actually the natural progression of music, whereas things like jazz, pop, rap, hip hop, and all that stuff is more of a cousin.
@skyshroud4 Even if that were true, it doesn't make metal automatically superior to jazz, pop etc. If you were using distance from classical music as an indicator of quality, then by that argument classical is superior to rock. The crankiness comes from people, especially rock/metal fans, who like to say their music is superior to others ie pop but overlook that there are other forms of music that could be argued to be as far superior to metal as metal is to pop.

Just because you think it's better, doesn't mean that it is. Technique wise, neither is more superior to the other, they're different that's for sure, but that doesn't mean that one is better than the other.

So to those 2 I have pointed out that it's not good to snub pop because others could claim jazz or classical is superior to metal. I like classical, jazz, pop, some rock and dance. It might not be as good as the other covers but I like it because it gets a whole new meaning. The original is your typical love song with some fangirl-obsession-crush themes. This cover, seen in the context of other MaSu works brings to mind internet creeps stalking their crush day and night, following her, taking photos of her house and stuff.
And there's the vocals: originally spaced out and god damn CREEPY here. Creepy awesome.

@takeonme79 MaSu have only covered 3 or 4 songs in their time. I can name a few bands that have done many more in their lifetimes and still play the songs better than the originals.
Also, I'm pretty sure Black-Eyed Peas is a little away from what MaSu would aim for. It's all rap bullcrap and autotune. Ugh.
P.S. The original of this song DESERVES to be dissed. She deserves to be burned at the stake.

I disagree with the person who thinks its ok to say the cover is good but not the original. Paparazzi is a poor song and MaSu's cover is also poor. Even if its better than the original, it's still bad and nothing for MaSu fans to be proud about. Gimme more was also a poor choice of cover. Mel C was slightly better.
@takeonme79 I disagree. Lady GaGa's doesn't have the same ring. It's all synthesised pop and...Bleurgh. At least MaSu are actually playing proper instruments (And making it sound more awesome in the process)
Also, their cover of Gimme More was admittedly not a very good one, but once again it was a step away from the synthesised pop BS that is Britney Speares.
Sounds great, but his voice sounds a bit 'whine-y'.. His voice isn't meant for such high notes.. but nonetheless I do like the cover they did.

@TheIrezasRise *Throws Thelreza into the fire*. That's what you get for supporting someone who disses the original version of the song that MaSu covers. They've covered Gaga, Britney, Mel C. As for Black Eyed Peas BS...I'd bring it except that MaSu will probably cover it before I get there.

@takeonme79 MaSu have only covered 3 or 4 songs in their time. I can name a few bands that have done many more in their lifetimes and still play the songs better than the originals.
Also, I'm pretty sure Black-Eyed Peas is a little away from what MaSu would aim for. It's all rap bullcrap and autotune. Ugh.
P.S. The original of this song DESERVES to be dissed. She deserves to be burned at the stake.

@TheIrezasRise I'm not commenting on Lady Gaga herself as I'm only interested in the final song output. I'm not influenced by the performer at all, either positively or negatively. I disagree with the person who thinks its ok to say the cover is good but not the original. Paparazzi is a poor song and MaSu's cover is also poor. Even if its better than the original, it's still bad and nothing for MaSu fans to be proud about. Gimme more was also a poor choice of cover. Mel C was slightly better.

@takeonme79 I disagree. Lady GaGa's doesn't have the same ring. It's all synthesised pop and...Bleurgh. At least MaSu are actually playing proper instruments (And making it sound more awesome in the process)
Also, their cover of Gimme More was admittedly not a very good one, but once again it was a step away from the synthesised pop BS that is Britney Speares.
