It was nice to see KISS performing the old with the new with this line-up, Bruce can play circles around most guitarists now a days and Eric was full of heart and soul with a lead-foot on those drums. It was also nice to see them playing in their origonal guitar tuning of E-Flat/ Eb. I think this was probebly the highlight of this line-ups era!

Thats true. We can go by what we hear in interviews etc. From what they've shown us, Paul wanted the makeup off to ensure that fans cared about the music, not just the spectacle, whereas Gene wanted to keep it. For, of course, dough.
