In 98 if it wasn't for Hasek they wouldn't have won, I think their behind the Swedes, the Canadians and maybe the Finn's, and depending on what Russian team shows up they could be better as well, but we all know the Russians play when they decide too. 2010 Vancouver, its going to be hard to beat the Canadians on NHL size ice and Crosby coming into his prime.

I have been taping Russian hockey since 79 "Series of The Centuary",(the pre-game title, it was soon dropped). It was & is a forgotten series, because the rubber game was won by the then USSR(Russians).
They won the deciding game with out Tretiak, which many said was the best in the world.
The officiating played a huge part, as usual, for the Russians should have taken all 3 games. In the final the Russians were scoring short handed goals,& the officials couldn't score themselves, so Gm/Ov.

@jeroliver Orr & others you name were the best, but, Karlamov was the very best. i have talked to some of the players who wereon that 72 team & they all told me the same thing, the Russian was the best they ever saw, he could do it all, but fighting was never part of Russian hockey, & i think rightly so !! Makarov was good to. he won the scoring race in the USSR 7 out of 8 yrs. before coming over to the NHL. with line mates Larionov & Krutov- the KLM. line.

He wasn't even as good as Cam Neely, the real power forward by which all others are measured. Lindros never scored 50 goals. Both players had careers ended early due to injury because of the way they played. lindros may have been a better fighter than Cam was though.

As with most skilled new comers, they are automatically compared to the greats, and yes there are always some idiots who exagerate their skill. I was a habs fan as a kid, still am, but I have to say that Neely was one of my favourite players, and I never really liked Lindros that much, cause he whined his way out of Quebec into Philly. The stats say your argument fails...and Neely didn't play with Oates until AFTER his knee was taken out. From 1993-94 to 1995-96, Cam played only 140 of over 240 games. Adam missed 32 games himself in 1994-95. They only played together about 120 total games out of Cam's 726 career total. Cam played far more often with Craig Janney, with a rotating left wing on that line that ranged from Joyce, Jeff Courtnall, to Burridge, to Ken Hodge Jr., to Kvartalnov, to Nilan, to Lazarro, and many others.

whats the matter with the czechs? they won gold in 98, had an off year 02 and in 06 never trailed in a game until jagr took that hit from ruutu when they played finland that took him outta the game. never once trailed at all. Your right, there are alot of good czech players, I just don't think there the best in the world. In 98 if it wasn't for Hasek they wouldn't have won, I think their behind the Swedes, the Canadians and maybe the Finn's, and depending on what Russian team shows up they could be better as well, but we all know the Russians play when they decide too. 2010 Vancouver, its going to be hard to beat the Canadians on NHL size ice and Crosby coming into his prime.

I have been taping Russian hockey since 79 "Series of The Centuary",(the pre-game title, it was soon dropped). It was & is a forgotten series, because the rubber game was won by the then USSR(Russians).
They won the deciding game with out Tretiak, which many said was the best in the world.
The officiating played a huge part, as usual, for the Russians should have taken all 3 games. In the final the Russians were scoring short handed goals,& the officials couldn't score themselves, so Gm/Ov.
