  • no, this was made as part of a project called Generation X, a 10 song 10 video concept involving Scottish artists and secondary school pupils in South Lanarkshire.

  • Was this tribute made by a High School?

  • never heard this version before but must say its very good along with the footage , god bless all our lads and lasses who have sadly lost their lives ,we must never forget them or their families..

  • Heartbreaking... the pain I feel is a mere shadow... We will not forget

  • A CD of this track and others recorded by pupils across South Lanarkshire was limited to approx 500 and given to those who took part in the Generation X project, which also included a DVD and a 'making of' documentary. I'll upload these soon at juradub2010.

Other artists involved were Belle & Sebastian, Del Amitri, Teenage Fanclub, King Creosote, Malcolm Middleton, Trashcan Sinatras &Eddi Reader, The Bluebells, The Delgados and Shirley Manson.

  • If I remeber correctly this was a school project and the singers are pupils from the school in Glasgow.

  • What a beautiful rendition of this moving song. Can anyone tell me who is singing this version?

  • @ifriar it was sang by Lisa McGregor and Maria Marshall who were from Trinity High School and who are now both at University in Glasgow.

  • RIP

  • RIP for thoses who have fallen in iraq and afgnastan

  • What happened to the CD release from the Generation X project?

  • Very Very moving, God bless oor boys oot there. BUT,ya joined up? what for a trade? or did ya think it would be all money or fun?

Tony Blair has no blood on his hands just ask oor John Smeaton the only training he got was being brought up a Scotsman, and he Done the " coonts"gawd bless ya man.

  • @woodyfurball these are people you are talking about. despite the fact that Blair and co are despicable, not everybody else sees the world in complicated or political terms. This is not to demean them, actually it's a compliment. Listen to Buffy St. Marie. Don't judge, understand.Use a Gaelic dictionary for my name, by name but not by nature.P.S. Smeaton@s an Arse.

  • Very moving. I hope Tony Blair watches this and hangs his head in shame, I doubt he will, he'll always have blood on his hands.

    Let us not forget.

  • Lost for words. Such a waste of life. RIP

  • RIP the fallen

Hold your heads in shame you politicians who send them to war. Is the middle East any more stable following this war? Are the families of the 200,000 Iraqi dead glad we came?

  • bloody awesome..........loved the song when i was a kid...never really heard the words until now!!!!always sung the la la bit....awesome again!! great job & respect to those lads & their families in the vid! ( gone or not) remembered for sure!!!!!!!!!!!

  • I'd just watched Skids @ Nordoff Robbins. To be honest compared to the original Into The Valley, I thought it was crap. But this video makes sense as a 'rememberance.'

    Good job well done.

  • I don't get this at all. I has always interpreted the original as an anti-soldiering song - the key being the line 'Long may they die'. How does this line fit with the current view that the song is sympathetic to soldiers? It still seems anti-armed forces to me. Jobbo was always good at rewriting his own history and he seems to have carried it off again.

  • so many lives wasted, and that's just the Brits, what is it now, over 3,000 yanks? and countless tens of thousands of innocent Iraqi civillians? we shall never know how many. made me cry.

  • dude

sad thing is there is 78 Canadians and god knows how many Amcericans have died which sucks but these guys keep doing a GREAT(i say GREAT not a shity)job

    KEPP IT UP BOYS!

  • How many of the Canadioans were killed by US friendly fire?

  • 6 have died now

  • Beautiful and touching.

  • So now I know what the lyrics are!

These people shouldn't even have been sent to Iraq in the first place. I guess working class lives meant little to Tony Blair. :(

  • amazing song, this version makes you think more about the lyrics.

it should be put on itunes or something, with some of the money going to charity to support families left behind.

  • very emotive (thats from an Irish Skids fan!) - heartbreaking to look at the faces - thanks for the video but i wish we didn't have to view it

  • Whilst this song is also one of the strongest memories of my youth,it takes on a whole new context and have been in tears watching. Thanks Mr Blair et al.

  • Ditto fabfife

    Incredably moving.

  • Amazing.... New version of the most powerfull song from my childhood.... Incredible tribute to the brave young men and women of today who for some reason get such a bad press.... Give them the respect they deserve.....

  • As a serving member of RAF please remember the other services who do an important job alongside the Army, thanks.

    God rest their souls

  • Most of the lads who fought for Queen and country, were most likely to have had this song stamped into THEIR soundrack for their generation, very moving, Rest in Peace all brave young men who went out there for the better cause..............

    Killieboy.

  • fantastic, what can i say, it says it all, god love our soldiers xxxxxxxxxxxxxx

    RESPECT

  • I wasthere the last time in 1990, repect to all and a moving tribute by richard,

    Least we forget.

  • Thank you to all our brave soldiers.

    LEST WE FORGET.

    The British army"SIMPLY THE BEST"

  • A needless waste of life. Heartbreaking.

This is an essential posting. Thank you.

  • A terrible waste of young lives, and so many.

  • At the going down of the sun. We will remember them

  • Cant watch this without tears in my eyes. superb - it has brought the waste of young lives home to me. I will certainly be using my vote at the next election. Thank you for your sacrifice - Rest In Peace

  • Superb stuff. Lions led by myoptic dishonest donkeys.........again.

  • well done thebinarypimpernel a fitting tribute and very very sad.

Lest We Forget Our Fallen Brave

  • Thanks you for remembering our wonderful soldiers that died trying to help make the world a safe place. Beautiful song and perfect lyrics for the tribute.

  • Well done to all concerned!

  • Such a moving video/song...had tears watching it. Well done to the kids who did this and Richard for taking part also...

  • My Brother came home safe and sound ,Not so many others.....God Bless them all and their families ....Lest WE Forget xxxxx

  • well done guys

no politics just a tribute to the men and women who gave their all

  • What do you mean no politics buccy20!

it's a anti war protest song you cant get more political than that!!, perhaps we should just forget that they are giving their all for two illegal wars based on politicians lies!........no politics don't make me laugh!!

    your ignorance is astonishing!.

  • I have just seen the video of the song and the pictures in the video i am the sister of the picture that was shown in the sunday mail today and would like to thank you for remembering these soldiers and what they were there for thanks helen

  • Its a sad world isn't it

  • well made , very moving

  • The warmongers who sent these brave men and women to fight in Americas illegal oil wars should be held to account for their crimes,

every MP who voted for the war is a war criminal, how many of thier children or relatives are on the front line? not many I suspect, while princes Harry and William party other real soldiers, airmen and officers are being killed in action!.

"Dulce et decorum est pro patria mori"

or so the powers that be would have us believe!.

  • truly moving , reminds me of the simon & garfunkel track with the news in the background . the kind of track that can change opinions! christmas no 1 maybe ?

  • moving stuff from mr jobson, very moving, what a waste, true heroes

  • Very moving..I really think that the kids that did this deserve great praise..well done!!

  • Asbolutely superb! I would never have believed that one of my favourite punk anthems could have brought tears to my eyes.

Someone should make sure that Tony and his cronies see this.

  • brought tears to my eyes. remember the song first time round, still to many pointless deaths!

  • Deaths on both sides get our troops out the war will become our Vietnam

  • "They shall grow not old, as we that are left grow old.

Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn.

At the going down of the sun and in the morning

    We will remember them".

    Lest We Forget

  • very touching and a fitting tribute.

  • Heart warming tribute well done Our leaders have a lot to answer for

  • Such an excellent but painful video. Beautiful music track which really gets under the old military skin, too. Our wonderful men and women in uniform really are a highly professional team and some of the finest that this small nation has to offer. We all can do more to show our support and encouragement as Remembrance Day approaches. Visible support is so important and has nothing to do with the politics RIP those who fell, and God's comfort to their families.

  • What an awesome rendition of the song and at this time of year, a fitting tribute to those British Serviceman, who had died in Bush's quest for oil.

I hope that the price our brothers have paid, and also the pain that their families now have to endure is not in vain, and some good comes of this sorry mess.

  • Sorry for that earlier post, i cant seem to edit or delete it.

There was no disrespect meant to anyone who has lost loved ones in the war.

I should have typed that IMO it was a bad version of the song

  • if only to spare your blushes...

  • Cheers big man

Enjoyed seeing your T in the Park gig....

  • Thank you Richard for the link to this most personal and emotional epitaph. Not easy viewing, but essential.

    Well done

    JB

"Nor any voice of mourning save the choirs,

    The shrill, demented choirs of wailing shells;

And bugles calling for them from sad shires"

  • What a beautiful song and video.... i was moved... partly because of top memories of The Skids in their prime, and obviously because of the video. It's heartbreaking to see all those sons and brothers and their futures just dissappear. And for what?

  • Well done guys - fitting tribute to the troops. Moving.

  • this Rocks RJ.

    S.A. Would really Love This!

    Im sure hes listening

  • Silence, respect for all. Words, how fitting, truly moving tribute to our national angels.

    Silence.

    H

  • How ahead of its time has this song become? It will either now be recognised as a classic Military Anthem or a classic Anti War Song like the ones written by Country Joe and the Fish that we all used to listen to with the late great Francie Jobson. Brilliant stuff Richard. JimCrowe

  • Mr Jobson, what can I say??

A truly amazing tribute to our troops, dont know if you remember me but we kinda pissed about together in Crosshill fife just before your Skids days,

    Well done.........Dougie Smith,

  • This is an absolutely incredible version of a classic and the film is an incredibly moving tribute.

The kids that did this deserve great praise.

  • Excellent Version. Really captures the heart of it all, and is a "wake Up Call" to all those who moan about crap!

    Weel Done Richard!

  • Big lump in the throat listening to this one. Prediction - If Richard releases this it'll be a Christmas number 1. Thanks for sending me the link RJ.

  • Total Goosebumps!! Thanks!

  • I like this. Captures what the song is actually about IMHO. Powerful stuff.
