once you just spend around 10 minutes to learn the symbols like u might learn a language then it all makes perfect sense and is quicker to read than the stonesense view. there are also graphics packs which are quite good for those who can't be arsed to learn the original

I agree, I like graphics! It makes a game more enjoyable and, in this case, more accessible! Sure you can 'get used' to the original graphics, but it's not the year 1979 any more.

@miauw62 I disagree, I think game mechanics are much better today than they were, say, 10 years ago. Graphics is something that has grown and evolved too, but not necessarily needed. I mean look at Minecraft. I just think Dwarf Fortress could be the same game but better. And lets be honest here, it looks better ok, and if it looks better the devs are going to make more money from the more people that'll buy it!

Per default, it up updates five times per second, and moves about and updates just like in the video.

So sure, the uploader of this video is an unimaginative troll, but you should really try using it with a second monitor, and you'll see that you don't have to have DF paused to use it.
