  • no matter how good he was, I am still thankful that this song was recorded in 1970 rather than 1990, or the drums would sound overprocessed and modern

  • I love how he plays, almost little to no beat, but yet there is a beat.

  • Typical Moon, I play the drums and would never think of approaching a song as he does. Like I'm in a bi-plane and a turbo jet just went by....

  • Who gives a shit if you can hear guitar or bass?! I believe this video is all about the drums, which are fucking mind blowing by the way :)

  • Love that and I am not even a drummer.

  • At 5:27 he's doing triplets with the extra kick...

    Amazing.

  • amazing how it's both all over the place and simultaneously tight. Now time to do some more practice :(

  • those drums better be 18

  • is this from The Kids are alright or from Who's Next?

  • @Osch78 It the studio version for Who's Next :)

  • can anyone tell me how he does the fill at 5:27?

  • @jklmnug At 5:27 he's playing straight eighth notes with his foot (1 & 2 & etc). While he's keeping the foot pattern going, he's just doing a triplet between his hands and feet. Sometimes he's doing quads. I don't think he was thinking too hard about what he was playing, I think most of what he's playing was improvized. It's not difficult to play. Hope this helps.

  • @jklmnug MAGIC

  • @jklmnug cocaine

  • Worlds most amazing drummer ever! What an animal..... he made that beat his bitch.

  • I LOVE KEITH WHAT A LOSS

  • The drums is this song are brilliant! You can hear every detail of Moon. Amazing with his placement of snare and bass beats too. He really is doing some jazz type placements. Very, very, very cool! I play this song out with my band The Dirty Cricks. It's always the last song because at the end we are so tired. Check it out on my channel. I'm on drums too.

  • @p47paul Part of the genius of keith that people don't acknowledge was his creativity. Consider albums from Sell Out, to Tommy, to Whos Next, Quadraphenia, to By Numbers, 5 completely different drummers. With each album he completely re-definse his sound /style. Ive never seen a drummer come even close to doing that. Some evolve over time but to re-define ur style every year. Not just one of the greatest drummers of all time, one of the greatest artisits of all time.

  • He knew when to rock and when to put somthing into a song that no other drummer would attempt to do.That is what makes him the best.

  • I don't think that Keith's mind set while recording this was to add layers or become more intricate towards the end of the song

  • who and why did 1 person dislike this

  • THANK YOU SIR!

  • great... thank you for posting this

btw, i can hear John's bass track as well...

  • Comment removed

  • i actually like to be able to hear a little bit of the guitar. it's easier to tell where you are in the song

  • @RocknBeatles well if Keith is drumming than it shouldnt be a problem :D

  • I really like having just a trace of the other tracks of the song in the background as reference. IMHO, Keith was the only one who could actually make the the drums the lead instrument! This involved an unmatched ability to interpret (instinctively) what drum notes would most enhance the song....and he sure did.

  • @DoctorRazzArea4

    Included instruments in this track:

    Drums: Yes

    Vocals: No

    Lead Guitar: Faint

    Bass: No

    Synth: No

    Backing Instruments: No

    Backing Vocals: No

I usually don't like to get hostile, but fuck off buddy. This video had 83 likes and 1 dislike (which was likely you) for a reason; because it is isolated by 95%. You'll be hard pressed to find a pure version of WGFA isolated drums. In fact, you won't ever, because this is what The Who's own master of this track sounds like.

  • @thankyoupourlavideo I hear bass alot of bass lol I ususally don't like to get hostile though.

  • @thankyoupourlavideo since it is bled in, does thats mean they most likely recorded this song at once? like a live atmosphere?

  • @thankyoupourlavideo

    chill man

  • @thankyoupourlavideo This is great! Keith Moon was my hero from when I was 8 years old. I was lucky to visit a Who concert in 1972 at the age of 14 and see Keith play.

By the way, I also hear the bass (as faint as the guitar) in this track.

  • @thankyoupourlavideo I appreciate that, but no bass? Pardon? Can you not hear it?

  • @Spillage66

Whoops. You're right. There is a faint bass. My speakers have bass and treble settings, so when I judged that the track had no bass in it, my bass setting must have been too low. After turning it up, I can in fact hear it FAINTLY compared to the original recording.

I retract my previous statement that there is 0% bass in the track.

  • @thankyoupourlavideo It's better with the guiatr because you can tel where int he song he is in - if you need help.

  • @thankyoupourlavideo And you forgot the vocals in the end ^^

  • @thankyoupourlavideo Yeah, the reason you can hear the other instruments is because it was recorded live. (Meaning Keith, Pete and John all in the same room at the same time) So, it's absolutely impossible to completely isolate the drums. No matter what you're going to get some bleed through. Just like if you were to isolate the bass, you'd still hear the drums bleeding through.

  • @DoctorRazzArea4 It's called "bleed", dude. You're hearing the overspill through the walls from the booths either side of the drums. The drum tracks themselves are soloed. This is as isolated as the tracks are on the master tape. There's nothing wrong with a little bleed. Some engineers would argue it even glues the mix together a little more. If it's acceptable to Glyn Johns, one of the greatest engineer / producers ever, it's good enough to stop you complaining.

  • @DoctorRazzArea4 It's not isolated by 100 % because there's bleeding from the keith's headphones and maybe from pete's amp too

  • I listen to this in awe a lot. Incredible and inspirational. Moonie was a one off!!

  • modern rock band drummers should listen to this track every day,so they know how a real drummer played, not always conforming to the status qou.then again there will only be one Keith Moon.

  • Jesus!

  • Now my laptop is all wet :(

  • Sadly Led Zep didn't record that 1977 June 23 night. Where 2 of the most thunderous drummers were playing at the same stage. If there was a live album from that night...!

And Page blasted Stairway like if it was the last one. Great playing.

    Well, there's the bootleg.

I love the drums intro before the YEEAH. It's so moon.

  • You should isolate the drums for the who song - My Wife

  • while bonham had a great style, he had a more tight controlled sound. moon laid down every basic you could ever need to play rock, and also he played crazy and wiled, a real rocking rolling way of playing

  • I found it interesting the further Moon got into the song, the more intricate the drumming became. It seemed like he was adding layers as the track progressed.

  • @tomandrhondakay Yous said it perfectly.

  • @tomandrhondakay

    Nice analysis.

  • 1 dislike... I guess that'll be a jealous 'I-play-bass-pedals-like-they're-hi-hats' type drummer!

  • La meilleur pour moi!!!

  • i'd really like to hear 'trick of the light' isolated, probably better than this ?

  • Amazing the way the drumming follows the vocal, bass or guitar at different times and establishes a beat then plays around the rhythm. Keith used rubato to great effect.

  • Take that! metalcore drummers who live by kick speed and think that makes them drumgods.

  • WELL DONE DEAR BOY !!!

  • The best thing about Keith Moon is he and John Bonham were friends, two of the best drummers ever and they drummed together. To see them on stage would be amazing

  • This is simply brilliant. Totally unique in his fills and style. A true legend

  • Do you think you could possibly upload Won't Get Fooled Again with just the bass and drums? I've always wanted to hear Keith and John play together like that!

  • The most ingenious drumming the world has ever seen, why doesn't anyone try to be this inventive these days!

  • thumbs up if keith moon beat the shit outta this kit.

  • 5:42-6:08 That is not fucking possible.

  • @bwc3821 without pete there is no keith and without keith there is no pete

  • @Korph88 Damn right. Keith made the drums an INSTRUMENT. Pete was truly the rhythm section from a metered/music sheet approach.

  • not surprising on a Keith Moon "isolated track" Pete's guitar still finds a way in there, lol

  • play this video and the other one with isolated bass simultaniously.. you'll see the greatest jam in the history of rock

  • This is wonderful -- for years I've dreamed of hearing Keith Moon's drumming from Who's Next isolated, and here it is! His drumming on this album absolutely floors me. Thanks for posting it.

  • the entire 5 minute part, just mind blowing

  • Peart is great but he can not ever play keiths style . He was just nuts and the best ever .

  • It's at 07:02 folks.

  • moon the loon rocks!!

  • i love the drums. but the synth is my favorite part :)

  • Fucking great!

  • Where do these isolated tracks come from??? Amazing, Ta.

  • @popitinpete Rock Band or Guitar Hero I would think.I'm not sure which one has the Who on but the multitracks for loads of songs were cracked and circulated a while ago.

Nobody cracked the Beatles multi's yet then?

  • @RodCow It's rare to find a Beatles isolated drum track without hearing the bass, since Paul and Ringo usually did both live at the same time.

  • @ninenine909 Yeah, that's true. But the Beatles Rock Band has been cracked now and the multi-channel Rock Band mixes do have a few Ringo tracks without Bass leakage (esp tracks from White Album onwards).I even made some loops of Ringo for use in my own tunes.

  • keith moon one of the greatest drummers in the entire universe this is an example though id love to see a drum battle between john bonham and keith moon

  • @darrell7878 If they both had a battle, it would be a tie. Both are unique and are among the greatest drummers in history........but I'd still root for Keith.

  • @darrell7878 john would win, keith doesnt do solos very much

  • @darrell7878 bonham knew how to solo, while keith never liked soloing, so in a basic battle, bonham would win. however, i view keith as a better drummer because of how he does basic songs with melodical drumming and he knows whats going on with the music.

  • @darrell7878 There is

  • ABSOLUTELY AMAZING !! THANKS !!!

  • Amazing! I love what you did here
