Yes, because an animal should have its birthday celebrated if it's famous. Makes perfect sense you retard LOL! Celebration of birthdays are for people whose lives impact those around them on a daily basis. It is a celebration of appreciation and love for one who's born and thanking them for being a part of this world. SURELY, a bear would understand that right? Haha "If we celebrate b-days, i think the bear should." lol what a tool, go hug a tree.
lol! Nice comeback, but you just stated all the more reason this bear should have a birthday. This bear MADE that impact on those around him. This bear has been greatly appreciated for being the only exhibit that attracts paying customers to the dying zoo. I would think they would appreciate him being in the world for that. If not, why would have a birthday? Also, don't insult me over a little topic like this. It only makes me wonder how someone like you reacts to REAL debated situations.
Knut has stolen many people's hearts. These magnificent creatures antics are so humanlike that they are thought to be people living in secret by Inuit's & could be a reason why Knut's devoted fans think he deserves a birthday celebration. Plus he has brought much joy & happiness into people's lives all over the world. As an environnmental spokes"person", he has impacted all of our lives in a meaningful way. I adore precious Knut and have become an avid bear fan thanks to him. He is tops.
I'm aware of what he's famous for. But to me he's just another animal no different from any other. ANY polar bear cub could've become famous like Knut. Sure he impacted people's lives but what's the point of celebration if the bear doesn't even know what's going on? lol
@HwarangOfFaith He's been raised pretty much as a pet with his keeper. I kind of celebrate my dogs' birthdays, why not for him? Maybe he does impact someone's life on a daily basis? :P
With all the pressing issues, your're probably right. But many people realize zoos are necessary for research for animals' survival in the wilds plus breeding programs. Knut stole many people's hearts. I never thought much about bears, but thanks to precious Knut, I became an avid bear fan.I have even donated my art on webshots (karenvstefanini) for bear and environmental protection fundraising. I love Knut very much. He's very majestic, intelligent, funny and adorable as are all bears.
animals in captivity is something to be shunned, not celebrated. he's cute, but could never survive in its natural habitat - his life is basically a joke.
In case you don't know this may be the only way to preserve species like the Polar Bear. Until habit can be found the zoo is the only chance the species will survive.
it takes a population of at least a couple hundred to provide enough genetic diversity for a species to not rapidly descend into horrible genetic defects. i didn't mean to be cynical or negative, i just think people "accept" zoos, as they do pets in their homes, without really taking a step back and thinking about whether the act is harmful to a creature or not.
The zoos are keeping very close tabs on their breeding pairs and cooperating with zoos all over the world to prevent birth defects and flaws from inbreeding I gather, thankfully. A bit off polar bear subject, but the flaws that are inherent in white tigers are very frightening, to put it mildly, although white tigers are gorgeous most of them should probably be curtailed as to breeding to prevent more tragedies associated with their horrific maulings.
Sorry, but because of Global Warming killing all the wild polar bears, this is probably the only way to keep the population up until we find a way to fix it.
Happy birthday to precious Knut! You're getting cuter with every passing year. I love you dearly and hope you and Gianna become good friends real soon and hopefully there will be nuptials in future! Stay well you darling bundle of joy. Love from Auntie Karen, one of your many Across the Atlantic Aunties from beautiful Back Bay Boston!!

when you think of a zoo, you probably think of little kids having fun, seeing exotic animals. try thinking of the animals themselves for once.
zapproowsdower 2 years ago
yeah well he would most likely have a higher chance of dieing if he wasnt in this zoo like what Evan said cause of global warming and all
