@AznLexusMan the workers are in a cycle. They hold your first paycheck, pay you when they want, change your wage, take money out of your wage for bs taxes, put you in a dangerous environment. Control where you sleep, where you eat, charge you for bathroom breaks if they let you. Your lunch could cost more then you get paid that day, resulting in a deficit and WORK you OWE them. And these are american companys. Using SLAVE labor. And profiting. Read the constitution.
I assume they all produced they're own clothing, otherwise I'd be tempted to call them hypocrites. Where do they think it's made.
People need to stop blaming Gap for all the problems in the world. It's the current worlds climate that needs to change, and then the retail world will change with it.
Find a new argument, and next time you organise a protest, create some professional placards.
Actually, you are the one who is naive.. i can give you websites of at least 5 fair trade/socially conscious clothing producers right now:
rawganique(dot)com
bonobos(dot)com
propercloth(dot)com
tomsshoes(dot)com
ipath(dot)com
they are all either based in the U.S. or Europe using ethical working standards. So contrary to you misinformation, there are stylish alternatives to the Gap and other companies that really don't give a fuck about anything other than a Buck.
I agree the world should take a stand but believe me we can never go back. Part of the global plan, read Global 2000 the Report for the President (for Jimmy Carter).
Actually if you check the facts, (available online), Gap is one of the better companies. As of 2002 The gap no longer uses sweatshops. Other companies do such as Hollister and Abercrombie & Fitch still use the sweat shops. Also if u listen to most of theses people they really have no clue and are ill informed as to what it is they are actually protesting, especially the girl who set up the protest. She had no clue about anything.
Of course the company itself does not actually make the clothes, they outsource. Another thing you have to take into account is the economic situation in these countries. If we go in a start paying them what we make in america, we would completely destroy their (already rather shitty) economic balance. Im not saying your efforts aren't completely unbased, but rather out of proportion.
Almost all retail work sucks. The Body Shop is all about Community Trade and helping impoverished communities in places like Africa, but they don't pay their store employees well at all. It took me about two years to make more than minimum wage there.
Last i heard, RED raised $25M in just six months and got hiv treatment to over 160,000 Africans. Oh yeah, and the companies participating specifically source IN africa to help boost the local economies. Basically workers are providing their own HIV treatment which seems pretty cool AND sustainable to me. So what exactly are you protesting? Maybe put down the signs for a minute and put your energy into finding a better solution. Just a thought.
Sure, take away the sweat shops, it's would be even more funny when all the employees are unemployeed, turn hungry, and go homeless.

Guess the guy below posted before the latest news about the GAP getting caught again broke (they're still using child sweatshop labor).
Of course, as far as anyone knows, any of these guys posting could be corporate shills anyway.
