@edwardwills Had we stuck with that charging handle, we would have never been able to have the flat top pictanny rails today that we love so much. I can't imagine the carry handle with a charging handle under it like the original AR10 would be suitable for optics with the charging handle slamming back and forth. I've used a model close to the original AR10, and I found the bolt not as easy to use an AR15.
they are wrong. the soviet ak47, and this are the only rifles in the world that can do all these features. but stoner also made AR-10s in .308 caliber, which is brutal to shoot automatic
direct impingement requires MORE cleaning than ANY other rifle. the cylindrical design of bolt carrier and inside of ar-10 and 15 increased surface area of bolt, which jams up easily when dirt gets in. i wish this video were true...
As an engineer AND machinist, this video absolutely blew me away.
I, like my Marine Father, always detested the M16, but only because of the caliber it fired, NOT the rifle itself. Stoner's team were Gods of Engineering.
I agree! Most all people from shooting enthusiasts to former or current military only dislike the rifle because of caliber selection. I think the design is great, except the idea that it is not gas piston operated, but there are some benefits to a DI system also.
The Vietnam issues were due directly to the AOB trying to intentionally kill the M-16 to protect the M-14. The M-14 being canceled due to the AOB's blatant misconduct and the fact Springfield Armory was incapable of providing sufficient numbers of the M-14. The issues derived from the AOB's intentional attempts to mess it up, not any failing of Stoner's engineering.
Is this really as good as they say it? B/c I know that the generation 1 M16s fucked up like crazy in Nam. The needed to have their chambers chromed & a few other things before veterans stopped complaining about them. Even though this looks like a rifle made by God I find it hard to believe that THIS was invented BEFORE the generation 1 M16.
I wonder why they did not keep the charging handle in the same location now as when it was first designed?

@esh325 thanks for the comment. You rocking the .308 for your SHTF ?
edwardwills 1 week ago
@edwardwills Probably the 7.62x39. The .308 is a good choice too though.

They should have kept it in the .308

"Filthy 14" BCM Midlength AR15 ran 26k rounds without cleaning, bolt was replaced more often than it was cleaned.

Wow! Anyone else catch that? The bolt carrier doesn't have a gas key!
That's amazing. ... I would love to take that thing apart. I wonder how it works...

its retard simple buddy. it field strips just like the m16 or ar15. it breaks down in like 5 or 6 parts.
wigtrimer 2 years ago
@wigtrimer The AR15 was developed from the AR10, just made to fire 5.56 vs 7.62. The M16 is the military designation for the AR15.
