You are right about SF having minimum combat training, but TACP is not special forced. They operate under USAFSOS, there are actually no special forces in the air force. My last trip overseas the TACP's never left base and the SF did regularly. Not saying it happens all the time though
@F3arTh3Sp3ar I put Air Traffic Control as my number 2 job. I failed the depth perception test at MEPS due to insufficient nutrients(I was almost at max weight, so I went about 20 hours without eating or drinking anything), and I was dizzy, nausea the whole time there. I meant to go to a optometrist to get a clearance form for it but I booked a SF job before I got around to it. Anyways, I got a couple friends in SF, they work 13 hour shifts 4 days a week, then get 3 days off.
@F3arTh3Sp3ar And I guess the "Who gets to do the fun stuff part" is just simply dependent on what base you're at. Every base has a two week orientation class where you learn to do your job on that specific base, each base has different responsibilities or assets to guard. In the beginning, you'll be on patrol or gates 98% of the time.
some of the other less technical jobs like TACP sound better. My over all goal is to complete college and get into either the pilot program or the jag program so over all a technical job is probably the best way to go

@ MAFB they have contracted security at the gate....so first job is carrying the M240B or M249 on post doing security in the WSA and the Ramps....to get LE, you have to get down with the 'good ole boys' or have been LE at a different base and they will put you on the desk....TACP sounds like it may have been a better experience the way you guys are saaying...and SF do have extensive training...dnt knw where yall get ur info from

Funny, chose SF because I didn't want to wear the blue hats lol. Could have had any job in the military with my ASVAB, so I guess that eliminates all the low ASVAB stereotypes. Funny how everyone makes fun of the career field, but when they get to the desert (with the exception of the the spec ops units) they want to pose with our gear and vehicles so they can have some pics to go with their war stories.

We do what the army does; whether it be kicking in doors/combat patrols, training host nation security forces, detainment/confinement for enemy pows, convoys, and base defense. We (AF Security Forces) were with the 173 Airborne Bridage in 2003 doing combat jumps into Iraq. So go watch Paul Blart and rub one off.
@ViolentAction1 I couldn't find any of them in combat but I saw that they went on patrol with the Iraqi police so I'm guessing that they ran into something if they went on a few of the patrols.

And when these guys come back to America they don’t want to have to worry about making sure the military bases they’re stationed at are defended because they know that the security forces are protecting the base.

If I may say something to all those that say bad things about the AF, Marines, and Army. They are all hard working men and women that serve our country with their lives. Hey jwilk0525, Not everybody is up to the task of going special tactics entry-level. With the tight unit of the Air Force, going security forces is actually a good foot-in-the-door. And yes, SecFor is respectible.

Hello i have been wondering this for a while and hope that someone can give me some info on the subject. I plan on becoming security forces after college, but i'm amazed by what pararescue do, especially how they get to jump out of perfectly good aircraft. However, i am aware that very few "make the team". I'm unsure how much time i'll spend in the air force, but would i, under any circumstances, ever get to jump out of aircraft being security forces? i know you can repel out of helicopters..thx
@bulletstothechest69 you wont really get to jump a lot but you can opt to go to jump school. Pararescue is very elite status but more people make it then you think. There usually isnt a demand for that job though is the only problem. Right now there looking for Crew Chiefs and Loadmasters. But if you want it bad enough, go for it. You may not get it right away, but you will get it.

You are right about SF having minimum combat training, but TACP is not special forced. They operate under USAFSOS, there are actually no special forces in the air force. My last trip overseas the TACP's never left base and the SF did regularly. Not saying it happens all the time though

@F3arTh3Sp3ar I put Air Traffic Control as my number 2 job. I failed the depth perception test at MEPS due to insufficient nutrients(I was almost at max weight, so I went about 20 hours without eating or drinking anything), and I was dizzy, nausea the whole time there. I meant to go to a optometrist to get a clearance form for it but I booked a SF job before I got around to it. Anyways, I got a couple friends in SF, they work 13 hour shifts 4 days a week, then get 3 days off.

Every base has a two week orientation class where you learn to do your job on that specific base, each base has different responsibilities or assets to guard. In the beginning, you'll be on patrol or gates 98% of the time.

seemed like sf were just always guarding the px and stuff like that

@ MAFB they have contracted security at the gate....so first job is carrying the M240B or M249 on post doing security in the WSA and the Ramps....to get LE, you have to get down with the 'good ole boys' or have been LE at a different base and they will put you on the desk....TACP sounds like it may have been a better experience the way you guys are saaying...and SF do have extensive training...dnt knw where yall get ur info from

We do what the army does; whether it be kicking in doors/combat patrols, training host nation security forces, detainment/confinement for enemy pows, convoys, and base defense. We (AF Security Forces) were with the 173 Airborne Bridage in 2003 doing combat jumps into Iraq. So go watch Paul Blart and rub one off.

And when these guys come back to America they don’t want to have to worry about making sure the military bases they’re stationed at are defended because they know that the security forces are protecting the base.

Hello i have been wondering this for a while and hope that someone can give me some info on the subject. I plan on becoming security forces after college, but i'm amazed by what pararescue do, especially how they get to jump out of perfectly good aircraft. However, i am aware that very few "make the team". I'm unsure how much time i'll spend in the air force, but would i, under any circumstances, ever get to jump out of aircraft being security forces? i know you can repel out of helicopters..thx

@bulletstothechest69 you wont really get to jump a lot but you can opt to go to jump school. Pararescue is very elite status but more people make it then you think. There usually isnt a demand for that job though is the only problem. Right now there looking for Crew Chiefs and Loadmasters. But if you want it bad enough, go for it. You may not get it right away, but you will get it.
