  • Nothing beats Buddy Holly's version of the song.

    It's a masterpiece!

  • Comment removed

  • This music is fun music. This music is GOOD. This isn't the crap you hear on the radio about sex drugs and alcohol, this is music meant to be just fun. And they accomplished that. When I look at myself, 13, and other people on youtube who are around my age, my hopes rise a bit that the country isn't entirely "corrupted". Modern artists are sending horrible messages for American children and teenagers.

  • THIS SHIT IS EXCELLENT!!! WHAT THE F. ARE THE KIDS LISTENING TO NOWADAYS? IM 14 AND I LOVE THIS!

  • even the tonearm is a boppin'!

  • thumbs up if you know this song from mafia 2 hell YEAH!!!!

  • to all the murderers and rapist out in the world don't rape just listen to buddy and rave on.

  • 5 people cant rave on

  • If it wasn't for Buddy Holly, we might not have had the greatest band of all time - The Beatles.. they were a great inspiration to them. Thanks Buddy and the Beatles.!!!!!!

  • Sounds grouse!

  • The truth hurts...Elvis was a waste! Money bought his career. He just ripped off everyone else//loser

  • @JKere09 You don't know what sort of career they would of all had if they hadn't died..With Elvis we all know !! It's a fact it really happened and that's why he is King.

  • @gabfig1 Elvis SUCKS! Zero talent...unless you count popping pills and getting fat...

  • @carrielynngrayson I dont think Elvis sucked, but he was not so good. Roy Hamilton was.

  • @carrielynngrayson thats a bit harsh,,,,,,,

  • Not only did I enjoy listening to this great tune yet again, I dug watching the record go round and round and round... ♪ ♥ ♪

  • SOOOOOOOO VERY COOL.........

  • this one is who really diserves a channel in VEVO.

  • the plane crash of the russian hockey team yesterday made me think about buddy holly! what a horrible way to go!

  • Buddy is one of the most important artists to ever live. No Buddy, no Beatles; who knows where music would have gone?

  • Awesome. Just awesome...is all I can say!

  • Beauty. Unlike the recent "tribute" album.

  • This song has been covered by EVERYBODY, I think, but nobody ever surpassed Buddy's version. FYI, Buddy was COVERING this song, which was originally recorded by the author, Sonny West, who was another West Texas songwriter. Sonny West wrote and recorded both "Rave On" and "Oh Boy" on the Atlantic label, but his versions never rocked (or charted). When Buddy Holly covered these songs, they DEFINED a new era of Rock & Roll. Jesus, if Buddy had lived, music would be TOTALLY different today.

  • @ZeskoWhirligan If only poor buddy had lived... what a tragic death... he was in his twenties! :c

  • Sexy! Good Rockin Roll! Ahead of his time The true king. Thank you Buddy. R.I.P

  • Who Dislikes A Legend Four Times

  • I was in grade school when I heard about the day the music died and I use to run home after school to be in front of the Black & White TV to see American Bandstand. I saw a few of the top 10 hits preformed live and I remember the Big Bopper, Buddy and most of all Jerry Lee Lewis with his seat being thrown to the side as he played. RIP Buddy Holly I have missed you.........

  • Buddy Holly FORVEVER!!!!

  • How can someone dislike this? Are they a fucking idiot who listens to Justin Bieber and Britney Speers?? Must be.

  • @grimsby2011 probably dislikes the loud bass reverb on the video... its hard on the ears

  • And to top it all off, when they are dumb enough to ask if I was serious they can't even be polite about it...

  • I thought this was a rave tune. I listened for a minute for the drop, that never came. Canny tune though. Rave on buddy......

  • Barely Legal, Strokes anyone???

  • CHA CHA CHA!!!!! sheer, UTTER eternal CLASS!!!

  • It's interesting to hear this on an old 78. Gives it a more classic feel, than it would on a CD.

  • Shit man, Rock n Roll went downhill after Buddy Holley died. :(

  • Julian Casablancas just did a cover of that! Will be awesome eager to hear it! :D

  • @Monia2222 It's already on youtube :) I love JC

  • It just looks better actually seeing th record of it playing, (probably b/c I heard it first on PLEASANTVILLE)

  • my God how rare is that 78 ?

  • A Monarch capable of playing 16's !!! That's just awesome. My parents had a Marantz that died about 5 years ago, but they kept off the records, 16, 33 1/3, 45's and 78's. But I have no way of playing the 16's and 78's Thank you so much for posting!!

  • @electricshockproof Do 16rpm's exist? - never seen one, yet all old decks have that speed option

  • @78s4FR They do exist!! Search "Herb Alpert on a 16 rpm album"

  • @78s4FR 16 & 2/3 RPM records were usually transcription discs. Mainly for educational use or "Books on Disc" for the blind. Transcription discs are interesting in themselves as some can be quite large! We're talking 16" or more. Orson Welles 1939 "War of the Worlds" broadcast only existed because somebody had the forethought to "record" the program on transcription discs.

  • @78s4FR if u put a 33 rpm on at tht speed its easy to figure out guitar solos at half speed :)

  • @78s4FR yes i have some

  • @78s4FR Yea, 16rpms were just like a 33 but had more songs on each side.

there were also 8rpm, which i believe were for blind people.

  • @78s4FR my dad said they were for language lessons and not for misic but ive never seen any as well

  • @electricshockproof check on line there are modern turntables out there that play 78 rpm records

    i have one a gemini weights a ton and it's well build it's a 3 speed turntable..

  • Even the record is bopping to the beat WTG Buddy !

  • oh my god....Buddy.... :( miss you...

  • Awesome!!!!

  • Even the record turns to the rythm of that awesome rave!

  • i was listening to this while watching pleasantville and sure enough i heard it in the movie while i was already listening to it i was shocked.

  • What type of record player is this?

  • Sounds great! I do a humble tribute version of this. Regards, '62 Mathew St. (Total Retro Rock)

  • Im 14 and i know good music when i hear this im not joking this is the greatest song in the world.......

  • @PaintballAce7 impossible

  • @haxor758 how so?

  • @PaintballAce7 because i thought it was just me

  • @PaintballAce7 why do people think anyone cares about how old they are? good music is good music regardless of age because good music has no age requirement.

  • @ewwgingers Hello Mr. Troll

  • @PaintballAce7 ha OK, ill admit im a troll if you admit that posting your age in a comment is the dumbest thing you can do because it's completely irrelevant. Now plz justify you putting your age in a fucking youtube comment...

  • @ewwgingers actually the dumbest thing i can do is walking into the whitehouse and shiting on the presidents dcik but im not going to do that. Please quit trying to be a troll

  • @PaintballAce7 well actually if you did that he wouldnt be able to tell the difference cause thats what it looks like anyway LOL

  • @ewwgingers too true

  • @PaintballAce7 Both of you two take it outside and don't come back until you've beaten each other to a bloody pulp.

  • @trailrunner78 how 'bout you go into your parents bedroom and smear peanut butter on your dads dick and lick it off.

  • @ewwgingers Personally, I like to hear the reassurance from some 12 year-old kid that they have some culture & are investigating and enjoying the music of 50 odd years ago

  • @Strawberry7Lynn I'm 13 and love this music :D !

  • @xEvanxLawlorx

what do you want a fucking gold star?

  • @WillyPlaidPants Augh! Yes, give the kid a cookie because whoever they are they know good music!I love it when kids know good ol' rock n roll when they see it.

  • @tyla140 Call me cynical, but there are millions of comments on millions of videos just like this, crying out for attention and "likes" because "i'm 13 and i love this music!". We know it's great music, you're not the savior of anybody's generation, your age doesn't make you special, shhhhh.

  • @WillyPlaidPants It brings a sense of hope...that all kids these days arent completely hopeless.

  • Theres something cathartic about a needle grinding against a high spinning wheel. It's as if all this latent energy is sitting and suddenly explodes, like atomic power.

  • Hairs on my arms STILL stand up in respect....R.I.P. Buddy...NEVER Forgotten.

  • Anyone who doesn't appreciate the trail-blazing Buddy Holly did doesn't know anything about rock & roll.

  • Magnificent. So much talent. Went too, too soon.

  • i dont see any glowsticks.

  • 0 dislikes

  • @cose911 0 dislikes 3 days ago, 1 now, I think we can track down the mother fucker

  • @bdubs360 It doesn´t really matter to find out who is dumb enough to dislike this.

  • @bdubs360 two now...I'm leading the search party....

  • @bdubs360 why have i seen this same comment on like 100 vids?

  • I dont were I've heard this before, but after playing mafia 2 I decided that I loved it, and needed to buy it

  • Only complaint is that the song is too short.

  • Mafia 2

  • This is music.

  • Great post!

  • i got this great song on 45 and play it on my 59 wurly ,a true legend.

  • Very cool, as close to original as it gets!

  • Darrekm95. My generation and I were lucky to be young at this time and really did feel that something postive was happening to music. I have to say that I believe in evolution and development and that modern music does have a tenuous connection with your long gone icons. Don't forget the rolling stones , the shangrilas , bob dylan, carol king, don mclean, marc bolan, the police, plastic bernard etc.

No way I come up with that by accident.

    Cheers!

  • Fantastic!

  • "I don't like that surfin' shit. Rock and roll's been going down hill ever since Buddy Holly died........"

  • @trailrunner78 hahahah i know where you got that line (even if you don't know where you got it).....the movie American Grafitti, spoken by the character "milner"

  • Being a kid in the 80's, I hated how rock and roll. I hated the new wave, the Glam Rock, and the mindless garbage on the radio. That's why I turned to 50's rock. And Buddy Holly gave me the blissful feeling that I longed for. Then I discovered Punk, and noticed that 50's rock and Punk some how was connected. They both were raw, powerful, and came from the heart and soul.

  • @JeffroTV thats because ur gay i mean buddy holly is cool but ozzy osbourne and poison and all that is better

  • @JohnnyTheTrucker18 Wow! People's stupidity amazes me more and more everyday! Poison? you probably whacked off to their videos.

  • @JeffroTV He obviously has never taken time to think about just how bands like Poison ever came to be, if he had he'd know that visionaries like Mr. Holly here built the foundation of Rock N' Roll and without people like him there would be no Poison.

  • @JohnnyTheTrucker18 u do realize that there would be no ozzy without buddy holly?

  • @imkool51391 if it had not been for buddy holly and the other trail blazers of his time......Les Paul, chuck berry, little richard, elvis, the Beatles

  • Great Sound for an Old Record - no popping sound whatsoever --- He was one of the Best & I gather that he would have been the Prince of R&R. That happens to be my favorite Buddy Holly song. Thank you for posting it !

  • Nothing sounds better than a song on the good old record player :)

  • In my opinion this one is Buddy´s best!!!

  • His voice was certainly like no other in British rock. he was a one of a kind muscial genius. If only he had been able to spend more than a year making songs. Im sure many great hits would have come from him.

  • @JustinTuckisabeast Charles Hardin HollEy b. 7/9/36 d. 3/2/59

Born in Lubbock, Texas "The Buckle Of The Bible Belt"

Played fiddle as a kid & loved country/bluegrass music.

Started muso-ing in 1949 @ Lubbock High School with his Pal Bob Montgomerey who's still 'with us'.

Heard young Presley c. 1955 & 'changed direction' & created "The Tex~Mex Sound.

    M A N Y, many GREAT hits DID come from him...DO dig a bit & simply AMAZE yourself....he was a PoWeRhOuSe!

(You MUST know all this though!?)

  • this is a great video!

  • the first song ever recorded by the beatles and stones were buddys. i miss him and i wasnt even born yet when he died.

  • @bauble24 im praying that that was sarcastic XD!

  • @bauble24 lol!!!

  • @bauble24 i fucking hope you were being sarcastic.

  • @StupidFuckingTrolls If you can't figure that out yourself without using profanity then too bad....

  • @bauble24 Are you retarded?

  • @BgKnoccoutGangstaDre I can't believe how people are stupid enough not to have a sense of humor...

  • Thank you for posting in this manner. It is so cool, your record player!

  • Buddy Holly is great! I can never get enough of his music. "Rave on" is my favorite song.

  • Great the way the music was heard back in the day, better than the CD.

  • rock and roll at its best

  • A spiritual experience, Buddy Holly

  • Loved this when I was a kid - Still do!!

    Tks for putting it up.!!!

  • i'm 12-13years old.brings back happy memories

  • I was afraid to shake my laptop! Great memories of the old days and wow a rave song, that's where the term came from!

  • @nanzarpoet Yes and I'd say "Havin' A Rave Up with the Yardbird" in 1965 is inspired by this, too!
