  • at least 80,000 of those views are me, awesome drumming and bass tracks.

Would it be a bit optimistic if i asked if the solo bass lines are available to download anywhere? for playing along with that is.

  • Wow, consider me a fan your playing. I aspire to have this level of finesse myself eventually.

  • Sweet!!!

  • well done sir...I particularly liked the beat around 4:00....and the last one was good. Like the way you move around the kit smoothly without too many sudden changes in sound.................a bit busy at times though imo :) wheres yo bassist at, lets see some live jams!!

  • At the begginning was you doing double strokes on the hi-hat?

  • liked it very much!

  • so awesome!! and i'm defenitly liking the John Mayer poster on the wall!!

  • yes i also think the sound is really good.

  • cool beats, sweet feel, dig it...

  • Nice funky soulful groove, very much after my own style.

  • nice feel man, although i think you should be a little bit more relaxed and confident with what you play.Anyway,i liked the doubles on the hi-hat and your snare work, keep it up!

  • also amazing:O

  • the part at 4:28 would have sounded cool with the bonham shuffle in place, but man i keep watching this and it just gets better and better, wish i had the equipment to record my stuff too..

  • very cool

  • The song that starts off around 1:50 remindes me of radiohead for some reason.

    really cool.

  • like radiohead before they went "electro" like after they did the song creep?

  • Actually it just made me think of one of their brand new songs called "bodysnatchers".

  • what key is the bass line in?

  • he changes them all

  • Aflat7 I think...but i'm not sure sorry :(

  • farout, i loved the mouth drumming :P

    that first fill hahaha

  • wath kind of sticks are u using?

  • sweet groovin'

  • you're fuckin' wicked

  • thats sick man u SHREDDDDDDDDD

  • God I love this groove! That was sick Johnny. I knew you had to have marched. Did you march corps? Your chops show man! Know of any good books to develop drumset technique? I played snare and a little tenors from Junior High up till College...no corps. I'm gonna get a set soon and want to develop that skill.

  • there's no drum corps in australia unfortunately, but i was snare captain for the sydney 2000 olympic band.. and we were trained by the blue devils staff.

  • The Blue Devils?...My favorite Corps of all time! I hope they win again this year. Saw them at DCI Championships 2007. What an honor to be trained by them =). Hey,in the beginning of your video, I'd love to learn to play the lick with the doubles on the hi-hat and snare...that grooved so well. Did you happen to write that out? Any possibility you can send that to me via email?

  • real nice pedalwork....looks smooth and elegant. You are almost doing doublepedalwork with one pedal...it gives one something to think about...

  • fantastic drummer

  • hole in the pockets dude.

  • I love that funky beat.the third or 4th I forget

  • the way you play are very relaxing...i cant i always overreact to the groove.

  • hey mate, this sounds what gear are you using? i love the sound of your hats and snare.

    Cheers

    Mitch

  • good combination, i like that, very cool, congratulations by the performance!

  • Grooves at 1:25 and 3:30 are sick!!!

  • what kind of effects are you using on the bass guitar

  • just the inbuilt presets in my korg ampworks.

  • just the inbuilt presets in my korg ampworks.

  • are thoose matches in your hands? tiny sticks!! Nice groove though

  • perter erskine signature sticks by vic firth. yes, they are tiny.. compared to the drum corp sticks i used to play with

  • play with those too, very nice sticks

  • sounds great

  • Oooohh marching bass as a bass drum. thats pretty creative. what did you play in the marching band?

  • tenors while i was in high school. snare in the more serious bands later on. do you play?

  • nice hand playing im impressed!

  • so nice to ear

  • nice shoes!

  • what bass pedal you using?

  • i think it's a mapex one.. i don't know models though i'm afraid

  • Upon further inspection of these responses I have found the answer to my question. Although, I'm still wondering what brand it is.

  • the little bass drum in this clip is a 20" dolphin marching bass that once belonged to my old high school.

  • Nice double strokes! What brand is your bass drum? Is it a Ludwig? What's the depth? 12"?

  • Jonny uses pearl, and I believe he said it was a 9", not sure. (I think that's a bit small...)

  • funky groove man i dig, what kind of snare if you dont mind me asking, sounds killer

  • cheers. 14x5 brass sensitone classic snare by pearl

  • do u know any great tracks that sound like this?....a drumless track so i can play with?

  • not really... that's why i played guitar on these tracks after i drummed them. :(

  • man the Sensitone Classic II sounds so nice.

I played with my friend and I was so in love with it. Awesome stuff man! Johnny you should put more videos like this again :)

  • do you use overhead mics?

  • in other videos.. but not this one. this is just from the camera audio

  • You really GROOVE

  • nice stuff i like it and i agree there should be a volume 2

  • i use peter erskines they're are great i would recommend them

  • u better make a volume 2 john. this is great.

  • nic job there! hahah,,,

  • Great! I just took my guitar and shred down guitar solo :)

  • doubles on a single kik pedal is one of my favourite techniques, played accuratly and fast it can sound like more beats than it is.

Easy to learn, stay away from the double kik, its just lazy using the double pedal to flam

  • Great work John. Can you please do a vid on the Samba pattern breakdown please?

  • yea wat kind of sticks do you use? i've been looking for a lighter stick with a good feel to it.

  • vic firth peter erskines.. they're great

  • do you have a band?

  • Whoa, you play drums with toothpicks. but it works for you. Is that a "Mapex" pedal? for some reason i cannot learn heel-toe on any other pedal than my mapex. they have nice stiff springs...just wondering. Good video.

  • Im a punk drummer and i too play with very light sticks usually 717 or 5a, i feel i get more control and better reflex out of thiner lighters sticks than the heavier ones.

  • yeah, i have some 5a/n also, i play a lot of different genres tho, so i have an array of sticks, nothing that small tho.

  • I like what you do. You are a very good drummer and I think your voice sounds great. Wish i could sing like you. Please have a look at my vids.

  • u use heel up, just like me ^^

  • nice shoes and pedal :D

  • Yeah, lay those beats in there, smooth like butter!!

  • I don't know how I missed this one before, it's awesome!

  • Hey JohnnyO - there's some lovely fill work going on at the 43-45 second mark into that vid. It's something I've noticed you use a lot. Can you explain the technique or maybe even do a little demo for your fans?

    Cheers

    Schtat

  • oh nothing too tricky there, just sixtuplets, accenting every 3rd note.. 1 2 *3* 4 5 *6*

  • Are you using a Pearl Sensitone brass snare?

  • i am indeed :) with mastercast hoops, vintage tube lugs and a black nickel coating..

    *lovely drum*

  • I've gots a Sensitone as well, though in green. Isn't it just the nicest and tastiest snare drum?

  • great drumming dude, i really like your style/approach

  • Nice groove

  • THIS WAS KICKASS!!

  • nice pedal work man you're good

  • wat sticks r ya using?

  • vic firth: Peter Erskine signature sticks

  • alright, does it get much better than this? The feel is off the charts and sheer playing is blowing my mind right now. I'm a bass player and have been for 10 years and if I could have a drummer like this, i would never even talk to anyone ever again. Great show man.

  • u can groove

  • Hey man, good stuff! I've got a question though. What kind of ride cymbal are you using? I've been looking for a sound like that for a while. Thanks!

  • my ride in this video is a fairly old (20 years) Sabian HH 20" Crash Ride... almost identical to a new Zildjian K Crash/Ride of the same size.

  • holy shit you've got skills, how long have you been playing?
