yo johnny im a drummer who appreciates more the funky and groovy stuff such as yourself and im thinking of getting into the bass, and i was wondering: how long did it take you to play these bass lines while keeping up with your drumming needs?
well done sir...I particularly liked the beat around 4:00....and the last one was good. Like the way you move around the kit smoothly without too many sudden changes in sound.................a bit busy at times though imo :) wheres yo bassist at, lets see some live jams!!
Ooooh my, this is great!!! 8D Excellent groove you got there! And the "poom-daga-boom-dagadagadadoom..." part is absolutely wow with the bass! Do you perform live like that?
nice feel man, although i think you should be a little bit more relaxed and confident with what you play.Anyway,i liked the doubles on the hi-hat and your snare work, keep it up!
the part at 4:28 would have sounded cool with the bonham shuffle in place, but man i keep watching this and it just gets better and better, wish i had the equipment to record my stuff too..
God I love this groove! That was sick Johnny. I knew you had to have marched. Did you march corps? Your chops show man! Know of any good books to develop drumset technique? I played snare and a little tenors from Junior High up till College...no corps. I'm gonna get a set soon and want to develop that skill.
there's no drum corps in australia unfortunately, but i was snare captain for the sydney 2000 olympic band.. and we were trained by the blue devils staff.
The Blue Devils?...My favorite Corps of all time! I hope they win again this year. Saw them at DCI Championships 2007. What an honor to be trained by them =). Hey,in the beginning of your video, I'd love to learn to play the lick with the doubles on the hi-hat and snare...that grooved so well. Did you happen to write that out? Any possibility you can send that to me via email?
Whoa, you play drums with toothpicks. but it works for you. Is that a "Mapex" pedal? for some reason i cannot learn heel-toe on any other pedal than my mapex. they have nice stiff springs...just wondering. Good video.
Im a punk drummer and i too play with very light sticks usually 717 or 5a, i feel i get more control and better reflex out of thiner lighters sticks than the heavier ones.
Hey JohnnyO - there's some lovely fill work going on at the 43-45 second mark into that vid. It's something I've noticed you use a lot. Can you explain the technique or maybe even do a little demo for your fans?
alright, does it get much better than this? The feel is off the charts and sheer playing is blowing my mind right now. I'm a bass player and have been for 10 years and if I could have a drummer like this, i would never even talk to anyone ever again. Great show man.
Probably the best drummer in youtube...

Would it be a bit optimistic if i asked if the solo bass lines are available to download anywhere? for playing along with that is.

the little bass drum in this clip is a 20" dolphin marching bass that once belonged to my old high school.
