If indeed there is pressure, oil, & gas leaking from cracks or other holes, then to allow the cap to release a portion of the pressured oil upwards to the surface for collection into ships would lower the pressures from the other leaks.

Mr. Landau is correct based on the information the Government and BP has released. But notice they stopped the relief wells while they did this. However, if the oil flow does resume, I would bet the following. That they used a relief well to insert a nuclear device near the base of the well. This sealed the well from all leaks except minor venting. They will continue the fiction of the relief wells but no oil or gas will flow. The relief well will be pronounced a success.

Maybe there is a conflict of interests. We all want this forking well to be sealed b/c of its catastrophic impact on the environment, and BP is fooling around b/c they haven´t given up on this well yet and anyway want to keep exploiting that reservoir and show they are still in charge of the situation.

The plug itself is only the pressure test. The headlines are making out that they've stopped the gusher. It's very misleading.

by 5:15 the pressure gauge the rover was aimed at read a bit less than 3000 psi

they are looking for 8-9000psi

the top kill failed because they could make <6000psi with mud column

therefore they figured a down hole leak

with only <3000psi now there must be a down hole leak

with two relief wells at staggered depths with sensors down them they shold now

know at what depth leak is thru casing

this aint over yet

@garnetfordsucks I was watching non-stop too they turned the 3 pipes off one by one, the pressure remained 2700-3000, they have not shown the gauges on cams they just say 6700, thats a lie. I took hydraulics in college i know they are bsing
