  • VIVA MEXICO ,EL MEJOR TROMPETISTA DEL MUNDO...RAFAEL MENDEZ....

  • Done in 1 take...Unreal

  • yes perfect but Hard on the ear long live James Morrison Australia

  • This drives me crazy because whenever I listen to trumpet playing I habitually breath along with them.....

  • To this day..is still shit my pants everytime i hear this

  • To the one person that 'dislike': Your an idiot!

    Solid trumpeter!!!

  • Our generation has been exposed to Wynton Marsalis, and yes he's good but I think Rafael could have given him a lesson in attack and clarity. Rafaels tone is exceptional from the start of the note to the end without having to look for it. Like a great artist that sees the sculpture in a block of marble or an image on a blank canvas, they are just exposing it to the rest of us.

  • @matmanrhino : To be fare, two very different kinds of players.... and two very different eras. Mendez was exemplary in his generation... but Wynton has done things (both in jazz and classical music - particularly the baroque... that Mendez probably wouldn't have gone near. Both virtuosos, to be certain! Truly ingenious players.

  • @ThirdValve Winton focuses on a certain area of Jazz. But Mendez was a great improvisor and loved jazz. You should hear his "I Know that You Know" from the 1940s. Remember that Baroque was practically dead in the 1930s and 40s when Mendez was becoming popular. And the trumpet was not regarded as the solo instrument it now is. Mendez is responsible for that.Mendez was (and is) more than exemplary. He is simply the best.

  • i was looking for it for such a long time!!! it is amazing how he controls circular breathing and double tonguing at the same time for 5 minutes!

  • fuck Oo

  • holy shit, thats all i can say, he like tongueing so fast its increadable, i wish i could tongue that fast

  • Haha, can't help but laugh at the headline or poem or whatever to the right of his obituary article. Probably didn't mean the same back then that it does today.... but still....

  • double tonging to the limit

  • hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaa

  • Nice photos to go with the audio.

Mendez, yo is my Honkie Hero !!

  • GREAT! I was the star in my class for band.Yet I am no where close to as good as he is.And fast I may add.

  • only when we witness greatness do we cast an eye to our own deficiencies and make ourselves modest.

  • A little ahead of the beat, but I don't blame him.

  • 1:36, pentagramas...

  • Maybe in the next 100 years there's gonna be another guy that might play 90% the quality of Mendez, but to play exactly like Mendez, NEVER.

  • Circular breathing, incredible...

  • Tienes razon, Tarasco.

  • Raaaaaaaaaaaaaah! Thats unbeliveable!

  • most unreal thing ive ever heard =P

  • he was god on trumpet!

  • genius genIUS GENIUS!!!!!!!!!

  • holy shit that was incredible!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • ...

I'm off to wipe my ass now...

  • no it isnt kenAnderson, you just got to practice, you should practice,

    I bet you dont.... lolololololololoser...

  • who says it's impossible to DT and circular breathe simultaneously???????

I don't do it well, but I certainly do it.

  • The very last note was a bit out of tune.... so I couldn't advance him at an audition. ;-)

  • Brilliant!

  • I don't know it there's any creative editing going on here or what, but if there isn't.......Holy shit.

  • and that boys and girls is how its done

  • how do u tongue that fast

  • -crazymonk125

Double tonguing my friend is how he is able to tongue that fast. Double tonguing, as well as triple tonguing allows the musician to tongue notes twice(double)-three(triple) times as fast. Here, Rafael is double tonging as well as circular breathing to create this endless effect. Moto Perpetuo = Perpetual (Continuous) Motion. I have the sheet music for Trumpet and (bass cleft) Euphonium, and let me tell you, this is one nasty bugger to play! (in a good way).

  • A caveat - it is impossible to double tongue and circular breathe simultaneously. Try it.

  • Well, maybe he is tonging very quickly or doing something else special that no one knows how to do. Other than that, since I cannot circular breathe very well, I'll take your word for it. Maybe it's just Rafeal's wonderful talent or a gift that no one else has that he never told anyone?!

  • How do you explain this performance then?

  • @BrassPlayer4Life How crazy would it be if he was sight-reading that entire thing?

  • he is amazing..

  • 100% MEXICAN OF JIQUILPAN MICHOACAN

  • Rafael Mendez (Jiquilpan 1906-Los Angeles 1981). Mendez is ignored in his own homeland!

  • pfiouh !!!

  • Yeah...I heard him breath... NEVER! His circular breathing is amazing
