  • this is bs.. my eris screen is fuck#d ide like to hit this guy wiyh my eris

  • thumbs up for the snowman in the reflection at 1:27! :L hahaa

  • droid eris was the worst phone I ever bought..

  • lmao "Well, there you go guys. Debate solved."

  • The eris codult take a nail xD

  • give me your phone and i can get it to scratch!

  • He knows what he's talking about, ya'll don't, so stfu.

    Plus.... People, it's not like he's saying it's indestructible! He's saying that it can take some damage not that it never breaks! Bloody imbeciles. -.-;;

  • The eris DOWES NOT have an oleophobic screen.

  • @gawbagecan

    Actually, yes, it DOWES.

  • @sethzilliano HAHAHA

  • @sethzilliano hahaha!

  • @ObamaEqualsStupid

I do believe my words were 'It IS a glass screen, and if you DO drop it...... well, we all know what happens there.' :P

  • but will it blend?

  • So you have a phone that is scratch resistant.. now try and not have a shitty 3g network that drops calls all the time and bad customer service. FUCK YOUR LIFE VERIZON USER.

  • Wow don't destroy your phone dropping it from that BIG of a hieght! Lousy test!

  • rofl your the man bro. IDK anyone else to take a pocket knife to a touch screen phone lol

  • this is huge bullshit... i have a huge scratch on my eris just from having pens (not oils) and it's existent... i promise. Considering this video i don't know how the hell i did it, but i swear to god it's there and noticeable.

  • Dude i have a 1 inch scratch on my droid eris screen! What the hell

  • the glass is called Gorilla Glass from Corning. same glass as the nexus one and few other phones.

  • this does work lol i did all the same shit and my phone is still perfect i also dropped my droid off my roof (10ft off the ground) landed on the concrete stone path and...... well its still in my hands in mint condition god the droid really does

  • I drop my Eris all the time...well...I got it at the end of Janaury and I'd say I've dropped it around 10 times. One time the back came off, battery came shooting out....Ive got a couple dings on the case but other than that, everythings fine. lol I've got insurance though, so I'm not *too* worried.

  • Actually...I dropped my phonw between the seats in my truck and it simply bounced off the center console and landed on the steel frame of the seat. This put a nice little scratch on it that does not buff out. I believe this video is a bit decieving on how he is using the knife...try using the point of the knife not the edge.

  • @chiptify I'm not decieving anyone. The knife doesn't scratch it, no matter how I do it.

What it sounds like to me is that either your screen found some sand on the way down (Which is very likely in a CAR, especially between the center console and the seat, which is the hardest to clean), or it hit the steel frame hard enough to chip it. Note that I didn't say scratch, because while glass does chip, steel will always have a hard time cutting any glass, unless it's a hardened steel file.

  • @GhettoGuy54

I've gotten lucky with that, actually. Dropped my eris several times from chest height- which with me is about 5'7", a nice drop.

Not a single shatter, no matter how it lands.

But I'm probably just lucky, so I wouldn't want to test it on camera- that'd be when it breaks, if any time at all. Instead, I just wanted to make sure noone felt they had to baby the Eris, lol.

  • This just made me so happy. Just go the phone about a week ago and have had 2 screen proteters on it and they get all bubbly and it's pretty hot where i am so it get kinda sweaty and gross good to know the protector isnt really all that neccisary. but maybe i'll still use it. idk

  • take a diamond to it big guy. wont be wiping that one off...

  • @PokerKidAA Well fucking DUH. It's only glass, even if extremely scratch resistant glass.

  • @PokerKidAA if you happen to carry diamonds around in your pocket with your phone, your rich enough to buy a new one when its scratched... this is a stupid comment!

  • @jasonkirchman I always have a diamond or two in my pocket, as long as my hands are in my pocket, and I have my rings on. LOL

  • @PokerKidAA hahaha

  • @PokerKidAA seriously same would happen to the tne iphone 4 with its "helicopter" glass

  • at school, i put my phone in my jacket pocket. and it falls out at least once a day. im known as 'the girl who drops her phone all the time' now. it has a few issues. but it still works(: im planning on getting this. hopefully it can live up to my current phone's durability.

  • I second the other dudes comment, I also wouldn't have the balls to do that, take a freaking knife to the touchscreen on my phone, but hey you just sold me, im getting one of those :)

  • LOL I wouldn't have the balls to drop my phone like that. Not even going to lie.

  • You should have tried the tip of the knife, because I got a scratch on mine when I accidentally dropped it on my driveway.

  • might wanna be a bit more careful when throwing your credit card all over the screen! luckily, the quality isn't good enough to make anything out.

I just received an order of 10 screen protectors from ebay for 4 bucks total...not much $ at all, but after applying one, I decided that even that much was a waste. they made the device eons harder to use (at least my specific ones did).

  • It's a gift card, with 8 cents on it. I don't really worry about it. XD

  • even if the phone can handle that type of abuse I sure as hell am not about to test it out on mine. Can't dropping it like that cause internal damage?

  • Actually, no. Not from that distance, anyway. You have to realize, there are very few if ANY moving parts on the inside of a phone, and as such, there's nothing that can be damaged by shock.

I had an older phone that got knocked off a 30 foot building, and it landed, scuffed the hell outta one side, and made the back cover pop off.... But it still worked fine.

  • @sethzilliano My friend had his phone drop off the top of a roller coaster and hit the hard ground, and it worked perfectly fine. Phones these days are pretty indestructable.

  • now make a video of you dropping your phone on a road while standing up

  • Heck no. I did just say in that that it IS glass.... And as such will shatter if you test it enough. I think I've put my phone through more than most people's go through. :P

  • ive dropped mine on concrete and it worked fine. Of course i had a case on it though.

  • thanks for that vid now i not as worried about scratches on my screen

  • Eh. I still use screen protectors. Not because I'm afraid of scratches (even my plastic screens are fairly scratch resistant), but because I prefer the feel. Not quite as slick.

    Personal opinion.

  • i have that case but i dont like it because its really hard to get out of pockets

  • I agree wholeheartedly with this statement.

  • hahahahahha

  • I just bought that case =)

  • Hahahaha, Durability tested by Seth! Yay! Nice test!

  • Is it sad that I can tell you're using a FOSSIL microfiber cloth without ever seeing the logo?

  • No... Considering it's not one. XD

I think.... I got it from my mom, it's an ol' eyeglass cleaning cloth.

My other ones don't clean quiet as well... too slick.

  • damn... I got some pretty bad scratched on my eris the first week of having it, and I have no idea how they got there.

  • good video, also see

    w w w. Droid-Eris. com

  • wow...i get mine february fourth (one week from today) i'm super clumsy with phones and i have the glyde and it drops every second i hope i don't have any problems with this...i'm definately getting a case... o.O great video!

  • i am watching this video. n i haven't gotten to the end but right now all i gotto to say is PLZ don't drop the phone.

  • Sorry to have disappointed you. XD

  • i have the same key board! 5/5

  • Bahahahaha, made me laugh. XD

  • D':

I was wincing. I wouldn't come within twenty feet of any phone with a pair of safety scissors, let alone a pocket knife.

  • I appreciate the research!.. though you may not want to put video of your credit card on the interwebs o.O

  • It's just a gift card.... With 8 cents on it. If someone has enough of a use for it to steal it, by all means, be my guest. XD

  • Thank god someone finally put a video up for the Eris.

I owned an iPhone before this and figured the screen was made of the same material, and the first thing I did was take a pocket knife to (a non-LCD corner of) the screen and it didn't scratch at all.

Your tests were a tad rougher, and pretty confidence inspiring w/ regards to the toughness of the phone.
