@Raidersrrule75@armyaviationproud As an American that is from a noble family in England and from a Scottish family, Both of you, make up already, its been many years, calm your tits.
@Raidersrrule75 If you are an American with a bloodline that comes from Scotland, you more than likely have some English blood in you as well. This is the case for me, as well.
As an American descended of English ancestry with a noble lineage from southwestern England and a castle which still stands to this day of the Hungerford family which even served on King's Courts, I must say...fuck Scotland!!!
@DonegalRaymie201 Hear, hear. He certainly did create a worldwide awareness of the great Scottish patriot. I hope to visit the Wallace monument when I visit the lovely nation.
@Breitheamhnaig You're joking right? People complain about every Hollywood movie that claims to be accurate but then lies to its viewers faces, take your head out of your ass!
Speaking as a Scotsman, whose clan fought with Bruce at Bannockburn, I have to say that most of "Braveheart" is complete and utter Hollywood tosh. It is absolutely riddled with historical inaccuracies: from the warpaint and dress of the Scots combatants - who look as if they had been recruited from some New Age Hippie community - to the idea of Irish warriors defecting from the English Army to join Wallace. Longshanks' Irish mercenaries fought loyally for their English paymasters.
I do not know why, but this movie put Scotland into the map, beacuse many people arround the world know nothing about Scottish history and culture, I went to lovely Edinburg and Glasgow
In case anyone wants to take this down for some copyright crap, as soon as I heard this, I went to amazon and ordered the CD. Youtube vids boost sells, plain and simple
the bagpipes are not a scottish instrument either, they can be dated back to germanic ancestory, however the Scottish pipes were the first to have drones, giving them the "Skirl".
and moreover the Scots and the Irish share ancestory together, it is now thought the "true Scots" or "picts" for their real name intermingled with the "true Irish" or "celts" for their real name, both peoples known for their warlike thirst, indeed the highlanders saw war as fun..... basicly the english are fucked.
and yes I am a Highlander, I live a on hours drive north of Inverness, where in winter it regularly hits -18 in fact one year it hit -27, mountains and Scots pines (pinus sylvestris) I was born in scotland, I have only worked in Scotland I work for a well known Scottish public Company, holiday'd in Scotland, I earn my money here and I spend my money here and by fuck I will die and be laid to rest here, I am a patriot of Scotland, ALBA GHU BRAITH.
I was shocked that Jeff Horner did not use a single piece of traditional music in the entire Braveheart soundrack. And the highland bagpipe scene had an Irish uillean pipe dubbed over it. Some people tell my I'm nit-picking but I'm sorry, the uillean pipes are not a Scottish instrument! The Gael was written by a Scotsman and not even for a Scottish movie. Why couldn't they find some Scottish music for Braveheart?
@RobbytheLion "the uillean pipes are not a Scottish instrument"
You should look inti the development of the Uilleann pipes first produced by makers in Scotland, England and Ireland in the 1770s the instrument isnt 100% Irish it was only given a gaelic sounding name in 1900 by the Irish musical historian Gratton Flood to change the name from the Union pipes as it had unionist leanings. The Union pipes were every bit a part of scottish culture as were its forebarer the Pastoral pipes..
loved this movie and mel gibson's action couldn't have been any better imagine how nice it would have been to actually be there and witness such an historical events in first hand :)
jock pieces of shit u say? speaking like that only gives the irish a bad name. You come across as narrow minded, rude and downright ignorant of all our cultures. we Scots, Irish and Welsh are all Celts together. Religion has caused enough seperation of Countries. Youtube is here for us all to enjoy, not to be used to insult each other. show some respect!
There's some mighty fine acting there. ; ) "The Last of the Mohicans" theme was also played by an all native American group... and wouldn't you know, their name escapes me but I'll do some checking. It's certainly a worthy piece to rival this one. : )
catholicrik, could you be anymore daft? IT'S JUST A BLOODY VIDEO! IN the last of the Mohicans, it wasn't a King's Daughter taken by the French ya twit. She was the daughter of a British officer who happened to be a Scot. Plus she was taken by Huron Indians allied to the French. But anyway...great video!

It is what it is! And Gibsons film, may be the best thing he ever made!
It's a wonderful piece of film-making, and that's how it should be judged, as a film that engages the viewer, not a historical education!
(Though I bet it makes many a viewer want to read up on Wallace & Bruce and the Scots Wars of Independence, eh??? And that's all a film can ask!)
