@mineCraf0 It's more like the opposite. Current passes through normal dirt, but not through tiled dirt. Couple that with an inverter and a piston and you've got yourself a pretty neat secret entrance. Might use this on a server. ^^

I believe the only update he uses is when the block updates because it is powered by redstone and becomes untiled

In this case he is not using block updates or else you would have seen a bud switch its simply that a dirt block is a full block meaning you can put current through it but once it changes to tild land it becomes transparent like glass and now you can not put current through it. Using the dirt block on top of it it almost instantly turns back into a full block but it stays tild long enough to emit a pulse. He then uses a small pulse lengthener

@TheSCPStudio the principle was taken when somebody made a video of redstone blocks. When stepping on the redstone block there is a state change(it glows). Tilling is essentially the same thing so he just re purposed it.

I think that the piston opens because farmland is a transparent block and doesn't power that repeater anymore.But i still don't know why the farmland retracts

It's not a budswitch, the redstone thing is actually to extend the pulse, because it's a 1 tick standard pulse

In other videos though, such as this one. you show very simple circuits and mechanics, yet I would've never thought of this.

@glennwardjr half slabs don't conduct redstone signals because its not a full block and you need to be able to look through it so its translucent, farmland isn't a full block that's also translucent and won't conduct redstone signals.

But since there is a dirt block above it, it resets after 1 tick, giving you a quick pulse which reverts the signal and then resets back again.
