You should have cut the pockets out & sewn them shut. Because if you were to actually go swimming with those, the pockets would either capture sand, or capture air, making your pants float & making you look stupid. Also, how fast does suit fabric dry? & how comfortable would it be wet? Hmm.. a nice idea, but not practical for actual use.

great tutorial, will use your video as method in which to make short pants, not board shorts, just short denim pants. Your method of measuring is the simplist and most effective I have found on the topic! But also, the old suit pants as short pants is also a good idea, thanks for sharing your creative ideas!

Inseam is WAY too long. Instead of cutting the pants an inch below the knee, you should cut then four inches above the knee.

I liked the look of the pants without the tie, but there would be absolutely no point in wearing this seeing as the fabric for suits if most likely cotton so ya, not waterproof! the pinstriping on the suit also looked weird with the hawaiian shirt pattern thing

Most good suits are wool blends. The reason most dress suits are wool because they don't wrinkle and don't pill. Plus its not a big deal if you had a cotton board short its just that they don't last very long in chlorinated water and the fiber degrades over time.
