Kelly is dominant for sure, but to dismiss Mike Stewart offhandedly because he chooses to ride a sponge and bodysurf is ridiculous. I'd guess its harder to get slotted at Pipe and come out without a board than with one. Also, when Pipe is maxing out, Stewy is out on 2nd or 3rd reef catching bombs where nobody else can. Obviously Kelly is the most dominant surfer ever, and I think the most dominant athlete of our generation right next to Jordan but Stewy deserves the respect he has earned.

@gnhsurf Mike Stewart has, in not 1 but 2 different sports. Not to forget Heath McKay (Australian squash player), Sachin Tendulkar, Michael Schumacher, list goes on.

@joeskienz Great performers, all of them, but they still don't match up to Kelly. Mike's sport has a fourth the professional participants and requires half the skill, in my opinion. Heather McKay was a phenom, but didn't last 2 full decades. Same with Tendulkar. Shumacher had ten great years at best, and auto racing is debatable as an "athletic" sport anyway. I respect their stats, but Kelly still rules as a pro. And he's about to win again!

@gnhsurf Pffft "half the skill" LOL thats the attitude of a KOOK! Stewart still beats Slater. 9 world titles in bodyboarding, 13 in bodysurfing, totalling 22 word titles. Slater has 10. You do the math girlfriend. Stewart is the best wave rider in history, has accomplished more than anybody else, end of story.

Kelly has dominated his sport for 20 years, Tiger and Jordan never got close to that number. He can surf two foot waves or paddle out at Waimea when it's 45 foot. One of the all-time best and bravest athletes ever! Ke11y!!!!!!!!!!

@vin0002 from the looks of it...the barrel stays in the same spot and the rider utilizes the inside and the shoulder as much as they'd like while riding in circles. I'll stick to 6ft and glassy long lines but I think it'd be a great addition to a place like Vegas or Kansas.
