I'm from Mongolia and I used to drive Prado. In Mongolia our countryside roads are one of the toughest off roading yet we have to drive on it everyday. And only Toyota and Nissan suv's survives out there and lasts forever. Buy the song choice is nice I can hear some Mongolian music in the middle.
@Ganaa005 I mention that there most luxurious vehicles, with better off road capabilities due to a lot of technology, but be tough and able to ride off road in comfort is a great feature of the Toyota.

Defender vs prado my trip cent aust - 1) prado front end bottomed out a lot in mud and sand. 2) prado ground clearance was a bit of a problem. 3) Prado steering arm is low. We broke one on a log. 4) Prado had a less lean angle driving accross hillsides - this was scary. 5) The Defender carried about 2 thirds of all our gear. It just had more space and weight carrying capacity. 6) Defender pulled prado out of trouble 9 times - My prado pulled defender out twice. I still love my prado
@browndogrider1962 Friend, are very different vehicle, if you want to make an accurate comparison using the model of the Toyota FJ70, oh yes you can compare, but even though different vehicles and the Prado is not ugly in general. A great car!

I think u all r wrong because if u see closely this is the Prado GX which is a 3.0L and a 4-cylinder engine as in the real prado for off-roading is the vx which is a 4.0L V6 and that car is awesome

Average wasn't really in control off road. had a prado off road and it broke trying to keep up with the range rover. Would strongly rate the Land rovers. people that have trouble with land rovers are people with out the money to service it and have a new one. so the toyotas are for cheap thrills

had a land rover defender was pukka but wanted a change so bought my mates land cruiser and i had it 2 months and land cruised it down my local car dealer and swapped it for my old defender.land cruisers are nothing on landrover and none of my landrovers have ever let me down and i have been round most of europe in mine and it never missed a heartbeat. as they say the best 4x4 by far

If you want to buy a car to drop the kids off and go shopping then buy an estate a sedan or a people mover this is NOT A Family Wagon AT ALL this is tough for driving through ditches and creek beds and in the sand has high uncomfortable suspension and not so much room inside because it is a farm truck like i said if you live in the city get a car and don't complain that farm trucks are not comfortable to drive they are for the trail not the school !!

I would agree with you totally, Land-rover is the better off road vehicle. It's more capable and better, only problem is they do not last and tend to break down a lot, hence my earlier comment.
@jvmccallum oh, well i maen, as far as experience goes, i have always seen the landys come out on top, my land rover has been fine 4 about 3-4 yrs running, plus it an 02 used, so i dont know wut u have seen, but personally, landies have lasted hell a lot longer than toyota. and i belive that there is 80-90 % of land rovers ever made, are still on the road today, but the percentage may be wrong.
I go by how many kilometers the car has done, not by how many years.
Here in Australia, it is not uncommon for Toyota L-Cruisers to go 600-700 000KM's without a major rebuild as long as it has been looked after (Serviced as specified and not abused). My experience with Landys is they need a gearbox at about 200-300 000KM's and engine's are about the same... That's my experience from friends owning Landys.. How many Km's on yours?
Also forgot to mention, a study done by a warranty company done in the UK found that over 50% Landy's broke down in the first year after warranty was finished and 60% of Range Rovers did the same (this means the driver needing to call for assistance not a major rebuild)....I am pretty sure I read the article on auotoexpress.co.uk...

had a land rover defender was pukka but wanted a change so bought my mates land cruiser and i had it 2 months and land cruised it down my local car dealer and swapped it for my old defender.land cruisers are nothing on landrover and none of my landrovers have ever let me down and i have been round most of europe in mine and it never missed a heartbeat. as they say the best 4x4 by far

Eventually, I was so scared to go off road because it was always costing me money, and breaking down in the central khalahari with small kids was not the way I wanted to spend my weekend. Have had a 120 Prado since 2007. What a dream. Think your experience is one of the few exceptions.

The Australians say if you want to go to the great desert, go into a Land Rover, but if you want to go back to the desert and go to a Toyota. I believe there is a great experience to say something like that. Today I did a review of 250,000 km on my 2002 Hilux and it's perfect. Spent U.S. $ 500.00

Here in Brazil still is not for sale, and further is beyond my current purchase, since there will be sold for more than U.S. $ 100,000.00. If you want to buy a car to drop the kids off and go shopping then buy an estate a sedan or a people mover this is NOT A Family Wagon AT ALL this is tough for driving through ditches and creek beds and in the sand has high uncomfortable suspension and not so much room inside because it is a farm truck like i said if you live in the city get a car and don't complain that farm trucks are not comfortable to drive they are for the trail not the school !!

@phiz What is sold in the rest of the world is as the Land Cruiser Prado is sold in the U.S. as the Lexus GX, which, is pretty much a rebadged Toyota 4 Runner. The Toyota Land Cruiser in the U.S. is the same as the Lexus LX. The Land Cruiser Prado and the regular Land Cruiser are not the same.

I would agree with you totally, Land-rover is the better off road vehicle. It's more capable and better, only problem is they do not last and tend to break down a lot, hence my earlier comment.

@jvmccallum oh, well i maen, as far as experience goes, i have always seen the landys come out on top, my land rover has been fine 4 about 3-4 yrs running, plus it an 02 used, so i dont know wut u have seen, but personally, landies have lasted hell a lot longer than toyota. and i belive that there is 80-90 % of land rovers ever made, are still on the road today, but the percentage may be wrong.

I go by how many kilometers the car has done, not by how many years.
Here in Australia, it is not uncommon for Toyota L-Cruisers to go 600-700 000KM's without a major rebuild as long as it has been looked after (Serviced as specified and not abused). My experience with Landys is they need a gearbox at about 200-300 000KM's and engine's are about the same... That's my experience from friends owning Landys.. How many Km's on yours?

Also forgot to mention, a study done by a warranty company done in the UK found that over 50% Landy's broke down in the first year after warranty was finished and 60% of Range Rovers did the same (this means the driver needing to call for assistance not a major rebuild)....I am pretty sure I read the article on auotoexpress.co.uk...
