You guys have the coolest take on this song I have heard in 53 years of listening to jazz. I can think of no higher praise than to say that you remind me of Goldings, Bernstein and Stewart. This especially reminds me of their versions of Caminhos Cruzados and Once I Loved.
It's a 1958 B3. The video is supposed to be in widescreen but didn't upload correctly, so everything is taller than it should be, which is why the B3 looks so short. :)
Some may find this hard to believe, but my 6 yr. old daughter has an appreciation for bands like Organissimo . I've seen to it that she can differentiate between manufactured stuff (Jonas Brothers, Hanna Montana, etc. which she also likes .) and quality music . I own a Hammond A100/Leslie 760 that she loves to play with . I hope she develops an interest in learning to play it when she's a little older . There's nothing "easy listening" about the guys in Organissimo, they're rippin' it up .
There we go now that is some good music right there. I just got finished playing devils advocate on another video discussing how this "best solo ever" lacked expression, rythmic contrast, and dynamic contrast and was simply just ton of fast penatonic 32nd notes. Then I saw this video: a breath of fresh air. These guys are real musicians. That was some very emotional and expressive music and amazing playing all around. Impressive. Great job guys. I loved it!
I've listened to this so many times that I actually prefer this take to the one that made it onto the CD :-) (yes, I have the CD, both of 'em, actually)
Everybody I've shown your clips to think you're fantastic! I'm ordering a cd today my pal ordered one yesterday! When are you coming to Southport UK? (Lol!) We have a Jazz festival every September. :-)
The ending was too long (according to the producer) and there are some flubs. So we cut another take and used take 2 on the record. This one has a nice vibe, though, for sure! Thanks!
I listen to this version during quiet moments in a tough workday and I couldn't catch any flubs; it is actually a very mellow version like one might hear in a jazz club over a margarita and a good steak... Great work!
Yes, I use a combination of bass pedals and left hand, sometimes playing just left, sometimes playing just pedals, sometimes playing both simulatenously, sometimes switching back and forth note by note. Depends on the part of the song, whether I'm switching the Leslie, need to grab some drawbars, need to add a little oomph to the bassline, etc.
I find the pedals to be essential to playing bass lines on the Hammond.
Great tune, great groove, great playing, great post, great organ, great guitar, great drums, great leslie, great solo, great fast switching slow/fast rotary, great copy paste of mine.
Wow...that was a cool 11 minute trip to another world! Awesome stuff Organissimo!

so how is the organ miked/ recorded? the G± signals are balanced.. did the engineer use that? did he split the Great & Swell manuals?
Is the vibrato the built in scanner effect?
irvnz 1 year ago
@irvnz The organ is stock. Running through a Leslie 122 (in the other room). I don't remember how it was mic'd.
