hey Allen, is there anything special about your piano? In other words, is it tuned just like any regular piano or does it have special strings to make a certain "old timey" sound?

I just bang with such fury that it goes out of tune on it's own. Both Len's and My piano are regular spinets with no specialo features.v They are tuned on a regular basis. thanks

I tune and repair pianos, I was taught by a man named Wayne Burton in 1980 (you might know his son the famous vibraphonist Gary Burton) Wayne tuned by EAR, till his hearing went south, and he started using a strobotuner (an electronic device for tuning) He taught me how to make a piano SOUND like it was tuned by EAR with the strobotuner. God rest his soul, he has been gone now for MANY years. My piano, as well as Allens piano "Lucy" is ALWAYS tuned to A-440 the American standard. Thanks, Len P

Thanks. Practice makes perfect. Also look into a good teacher from a local college. Many great students can get you headed in the right paths with IMPROV and such, and need the money they make for charging lessons to pay tuitions. Either way it can be a win-win situation! Cheers!

It's a shame you don't give lessons; I've been playing for 28 years (self-taught basically) and love this kind of music (along with gospel, the standards of the '20s, '30s and '40s, Motown, etc.) but can't play it where it's worth hearing. You could probably do well selling one of those mail order ragtime piano courses.
