Unlike Doom 3 which was very good, but does have it's faults, there just wasn't enough hell levels, and I felt very dissapointed when you completed this level and where sent back to the base type levels. Thankfully after the truly class hell level, there where some elements of hell incorporated into those levels.

at the vicinity of 1:44 I remember the sound of some little girl's soul crying in the dark, which made the level seem a bit depressing the first time I played it - even though I'm actually an atheist. I thought this game was a dumb attempt to evangelise using entertainment, like Dante's poem was in the Middle Ages, but it is more sci-fi and the storyline of humans being the descendants of Martians is hardly coherent with Christianity

i love this level, its one of those gaming moments i'll always remember, where the shit hits the fan big time.

it goes from a nice little sci-fi shooter, ok theres some blood, guts and the occasional extra spooky moment :P

but when you arrive here the first thing you think is "WHAT THE FUCK, SHIT JUST GOT REAL"

One of the best playthrough's ever, the hell level of doom 3. Sit in the dark and play this, and I dont think there is any game quite as terrifying. How do you record the videos? Do you use the games software or Fraps etc? Does anyone know a good way to record PC games with sound? I have never played a game or seen a movie that personified the meaning of "Hell" like Doom 3. I don't know about books since I've never read anything on it such as Dante's Inferno etc. However, when you play this level of Doom 3, it goes from gore filled shoot-em-up to feeling like a playable poem based on some partly insane man's speculations of what Hell might really look like. The idea of it being in a nebula-like abyss with floating masses of rock adds to the feel of being trapped too.

I know that Half Life came about 5 years after Doom 2 and it was heavily influenced by it, but this version of hell looks quite a lot like Xen, and to be honest, almost the entire game feels like the original Half Life, at least that's my humble opinion.

By the way, 5 stars on taking a freaking Hell Knight with the gun!

You know what the best thing about Doom 3 is? You don't get the full effect of the game unless you play it on very fuckin' hard mode. Other games you can still get the satisfaction of playing them on easy or medium...but for some reason, you can't do that on Doom 3. You gotta play it to the fucking teeth! Hells minions are supposed to be hard to kill! and it just makes the game THAT much creepier when your thinking "Oh, FUCK! IT WONT DIE!"

It's the scariness of the level design in combination with really challenging gameplay that creates an intense gaming experience.

If you're not worried about dying and losing progress then the game won't be scary at all.

I think they should have used a LOT more from the original. First of all, the monster designs were awesome the way they were, the abstract labyrinthine level design made the game fun to play, and the run-and-gun gameplay is way more intense and awesome than this creepy, looking in the dark stuff. Doom 3 is pretty to look at, and kinda fun to play, but it's not Doom in my book.
