store doesn't have the quad cores, they only have dual core 3.06 GHz models.

quad cores will be available in november. If I were you, I would go for the i7 Quad Core. Much newer and faster chip, that for a couple hundred more dollars, will really carry you into the future with top-notch performance.

the one and only disappointment I have is the lack of a numpad on the keyboard. Right now I have to use a generic USB wired numpad and Apple have don't anything that fixes this short of buying a whole keyboard.

Well, a MacBook Pro does have power and portability, but the 21.5" iMac has the power, but not portable. You will be better off with a MacBook Pro if you are for portability. If not, go for the new iMac!
