Hopkins definatley did not do enough to win this fight, no way. The stats threw a lot more, landed a lot more and even had a better % of punches landed.
Lederman, Giampa and Gimza, all respected and VERY experienced judges, scored this decisively in favour of Calzaghe, 2 by five rounds and 1 by three rounds. The one judge who did give it to Hopkins only gave it to him by 1 point anyway, and she was the least experienced and youngest of the judges.

No one has ever come close to doing this to Hopkins. On ward as well i'm welsh hence being a calzaghe fan but i think he is excellent. His approach and mental view on boxing is so impressive. And he has the skills to back it up. His own corner caused that fight to be stopped. This is why u have to remain calm.

Hopkins definatley did not do enough to win this fight, no way. The stats threw a lot more, landed a lot more and even had a better % of punches landed.
Lederman, Giampa and Gimza, all respected and VERY experienced judges, scored this decisively in favour of Calzaghe, 2 by five rounds and 1 by three rounds. The one judge who did give it to Hopkins only gave it to him by 1 point anyway, and she was the least experienced and youngest of the judges.

If you watch the fight again, you will see Joe's father telling him towards the last few rounds that he needs a knockout. Why would anyone ever say that unless they felt the fighter was losing? Also, if you watch the fight closely, whenever BHop would score, the commentators rarely mentioned it. Whenever Joe would throw a few slaps, they would clearly exaggerate the action. Folks must watch this fight again. It is clear who the true victor was.

No one has ever come close to doing this to Hopkins. They may have won a decision based on opinion but the man has never been cut and only down twice in a long career to pull out a draw in the fight in the opponents country. The fights he lost were super close & they judges could have easily gave him the decision.

@88stockmj I agree but I am glad he left when he did because he left on top of his game with all his faculties in tact & good money in his pocket. Unfortunately a lot of athletes of all sports don't do this but especially in boxing. Calzaghe did the right thing by leaving at the height of his career with nothing to lose & everything to gain. Good for him.

@88stockmj Oh there are plenty & to be honest although Ward isn't the most experienced, he is the most talented. I think everyone should stay away from him in about 2-3 yrs bc he's so fast, slick & brings it. The only thing I see is his chin is suspect. But to me he is the future of boxing in like 3 yrs. We'll see because the 168-175 division has a lot of good talent, Shaun George (from my hometown Brooklyn) looked good against Chris Byrd & Chad Dawson is pretty good too. Enjoy the fights man.

@BreuckelensFinest Yeah i just don't think there is a fight out there worthy of getting him out of retirement if you get me. On ward as well i'm welsh hence being a calzaghe fan but i think he is excellent. His approach and mental view on boxing is so impressive. And he has the skills to back it up. I think in a few fights he will become one of my fave boxers if he keeps going the way he is.

@88stockmj Yes the best is yet to come. There should be some really great fights coming in the 168-175 divisions in the next few yrs. One of my favorite fighters of all time is Lennox. A lot of American's hate his gutts, me being American, I think he was awesome. One of two heavy weight champions in history to win against everyone he has fought, Lennox Lewis & Rocky Marciano.

@88stockmj Yes but that cut kind of saved Lennox's ass bc Vitali was looking really good in the beginning of the fight &he was putting it on Lennox but Lennox seemed to be getting stronger &figuring him out as the fight continued. If u watch closely, Vitali's corner ripped open his cut when the corner man wiped the blood off the cut bc he was so rough doing so. I was screaming at the TV..lol..when he did that. His own corner caused that fight to be stopped. This is why u have to remain calm.

I still think lennox would have won tho he took vitali's best shots and was coming in to the fight and if the corner ripped open that cut, imagine what a few good shots would have done. Lennox was the one getting the better of the fight before it was stopped.

@88stockmj I don't take anything away from Lewis, he's an incredible boxer. But he's not as good as Vitali. Lewis beat Vitali on a stoppage, he didn't really "beat" a prime Vitali. There's a reason Klitschko was leading on the score cards when the doctor stopped it, he was outboxing Lewis. Vitali has never been knocked down, and his knockout percentage is better than Lewis's.

The only thing that matters is that no one has ANY reason to think that Lewis really could have beaten Vitali if the fight continued... we hadn't seen any evidence of it yet. Vitali was still boxing hard. He has NEVER been knocked down, and Lewis wasn't about to change that in the next few rounds, cut or no cut.

@iChex I am an ex boxer/football/baseball player/Track runner. A lot of people talk shit to get an edge especially in boxing, it's part of the game. Ali did it, Jones Jr did it, Mayweather does it, Lennix did it, the list goes on & on. It also sells tickets. One thing throughout the Boxing history is fans become very emotional about the guy they like, I have been guilty of it too.
