  • Cool machine.

All of you little girls soiling yourselves about the danger, need to get back to playing with your dolls.

  • да уж

  • Chuck Norris split those logs faster!

  • OSHA would shit in there pants..

  • white trash should sleep

  • @rockarolla3200 hey rock fuck u niggah!!!!

  • helmets wont help

  • I knew a guy once that had a (home made) direct-drive PTO table saw, with a 5'6" disc, he hand rolled logs onto it, with no guard or engine cut for 11yrs with no problems.

He did a Cambridge bungee from a barn beam eventually but my point is, the most dangerous part of these machines is the nut that holds the log!

  • Very dangerous !!!!

  • Mind you they are splitting soft woods, I would be terrified to see this beast in operation splitting some of the stringy hard red elm I get into a lot.

  • Pretty bleeping wild, but not as bad a one I saw done with an old punch press.

  • this is what HORROR movies are made for.

  • I was hopping for a close up of the wedge, showing just how it works.

  • holy blurking shnit..

  • That's a wing dinger alright. I bet Jed Clampet would have loved it.

  • @lamichaud how the blade fix? because i would put a kind of wheel cover in case that blade took of. but overall that look great

  • OSHA's worst nightmare !

  • where would americans be whit out oil, too lazy to hack wood by hand

  • ok does nobody else see the total ass backwards comment that i noticed??????? someone with the name "Freedom for you and me" said "I don't think this is OSHA approved" really????? i mean come on how much more hypocritical can you get? would freedom for you and me not include the freedom to make a home made wood splitter no matter how dangerous some people might think it is?

  • I hope you guys give us a message when u chopped off your hand !!!!

This thing is fast but dangerous !!!!! lol

  • i live in the ozark mts. but you morons are real hillbillies..let your 12 year old son split for awhile and tell your wife to close my backdoor when i'm finished.

  • dont look very safe way accident will happened only once watch out if you still alive

  • this video is 3 years old...Are you guys still alive? Did the wedge ever come loose and fly out? Did you ever get your wrists broken?

  • lol widow maker...seems legit

  • If you fall down you get your head split open, nice.

  • This looks like a good reason lifespans were so much shorter back then

  • great invention, im building my own, the only thing that maybe needs to be improved, would be a counterweight about the same weight as the splitter :D

  • i will just split it the standard piston method thanks

  • Are you free yet?

  • That's just playing with fire ...

  • They look scared.

  • Me102288 shut the hell up

  • safest machine ever seen

  • @thomasaurus thats why its called the widow maker you retard!

  • Thats crazy as chit how many times the wood flip back and Knock da crap outa some one

  • nice and quick!!

  • Really have to trust that welding job on that wedge, huh?

  • @perpetualmotion192 I'm a welder, I help put together 60 ton train cars. My welds hold up 40 tons.. why shouldnt his?

besides that, if it falls of it online takes 10 minutes to weld it back on anyway :-\

  • very dangerous if health and saftey saw that :(

  • @ryebread360

OSHA only works if someone's actually employed...oh, and it's safety, not saftey....

  • @ryebread360 Health and safety is a guideline, if your stupid enough to consider your actions dangerous around this machine you should not get near it..

Guns are safe, stupid ppl with guns arent.. its a poor man that blames the tool..

  • @Me102288 well sorry for being alive

  • @ryebread360 live or not, if you think your endangered by all means dont go near anything like it...

mean time I'm working on 45 ton grain cars while cranes are lifting some of the over our heads and down the building to the other bays...

Any safer this windowmaker? nope.. but were certified as passed health and safety the last 11 years ..

guess danger is in the eye of the beholder.. Honestly it looks safer then my job..

  • mad saftey

  • what kinda engine? Briggs?

  • @celesteraez Briggs & Stratton 12 HP

  • @lamichaud dang thats a huge engine kinda looks like a Wisconsin...

  • @lamichaud looks like a wisconsin air cooled motor to me

  • @lamichaud ...my life is complete!!!

  • Osha is on the way!

  • That f-n thing is so crazy... Im glad I have a standard hydraulic log splitter, wouldnt come close to that death wheel...

  • I want to see the Widow...

  • First Class Widowmaker

  • So this was a video of betty, with her third or forth husband?

  • is called the "widow Maker" cos so many people got killed testing it before it was put for sale?

  • After one sneeze Bob lost his hand

  • hmm looks pretty dangerous......

  • flywheel have balls to cut 12 inches dia log

  • fuck that deathtrap

  • I meet every definition of a redneck and even I wouldn't use this. It is rather cool though.

  • How many beer were consumed before attempting this ???

  • The guy in the baseball hat is my science teacher ! Great vid, Mr Michaud!

  • I don't think this is OSHA approved

  • nice

  • Watching this, the word "maimed" comes to mind.

  • ...machines such as these were common in rural areas once...early ones were belt driven from pulleys on steam-tractors... One worked hard...and...very skillfully!

  • it works great, fastest splitter in the West!

  • Why does everyone say these machines are so dangerous? Unless you're retarded and put your fingers in the line of fire, how could it hurt you?

  • @bradkrit Because it doesn't have 18 little yellow danger stickers on it to keep dumbasses away. Not retard proof = not safe nowadays. I dig it, would probably build one if I was still burning wood.

  • You have balls. I work in construction and I wouldn't even go anywhere near that.

  • I want to find one of these things! Its awesome!

  • lol there just asking to get there teeth chattered :)

  • dont get your hand on the knifes

  • should have a guard around the top of the flywheel.

  • it is turning the right way, how would you split wood otherwise?

  • @lamichaud with a axe ...like a real man.

  • This is a great machine, but I do wonder why you were spinning the wheel backward. It's pretty dangerous to let it knock the wood upwards toward you like that. Try reversing it and let the wedge fall downward into the wood, it'll split like a melon :)

  • @SheaWolf16

The wedge is falling down onto the wood. Watch the video again and you can see the cuts on the top side. The frame rate / stroboscopic effect of the filming makes it appear that the wheel is turning in the wrong direction.

  • Arrêtez-ça les gars! Il n'y a aucune sécurité avec ce machin.

  • Way faster than an conventional wood splitter. I need one!

  • Holy shite - that's the unsafest bit of equipment I've seen in years.

  • @GrimlyKK it's not called the "widow maker" for nothing :)

  • @nrvrine427 OSHA approval pending. LOL

  • "Hold my beer!" "Watch this!" "It seemed like a good idea at the time!" written in granite any day now.

LOL, it surely works, but lord, it seems like a whole lot of things could go wrong with this thing. I feel like I am watching 'Final Destination.'

  • Did anyone else here the Ghast at 0:26 ?

  • Did anyone else here the Ghast at 0:28 ?

  • powered by an OLD rope start briggs engine

  • /That's a keeper !!!

  • you dont wanna trip over a log and split your redhead hehe

  • try splitting real wood, like harwood...

  • Gotta love wearing gloves and long sleeve shirts while using this deathtrap POS.

  • @BobTheBuilder378 yeah, that angry machine is just waiting to suck someone in.

  • There are some people in the world who are not totally uncoordinated and brainless, who can actually use machinery like this with quite acceptable risk. By the same token there are also idiots that can't be trusted with an axe or chainsaw either.

I say get these safety freaks out there and make them split 20 - 30 or more ton of firewood a year, I think they'd soon change their minds about this machine.

  • hmmmmmmmm i wonder how it got its name....

  • i'm no expert but i think this thing is running way too fast.. you have the flywheel for stored energy.. it would be probably a lot safer if you tuned it down or reduced the speed somehow

  • Danger Danger!!

  • Dangerous !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • That splitter works great.

Scares the hell out of me though...

  • Someone is going to get killed, and when they do, then everyone will realize that making junk machines benefits nobody. Industry used to build shit like this and when enough people were killed, OSHA had to be founded. Its true, stupid people used to get killed, now they breed. I see your genetics are pre-OSHA. Morons.

  • Man that works great but you wanna keep your zipper up around that thing.

  • I wanna play a game..

  • holy crap you must not like yourself very much to use that thing..it would be easier to shoot yourself in the head..

  • You should call it stumpy.

  • When the wedge comes flying off, your head looks like the wood you are splitting.

"Don't try this at home, this is being done by trained professionals"

  • These guys are desperate to split some wood! Winter's coming boys and its going to be cold...Gotta be canadian!

  • Widow maker it's called? Huh, that should be a strong hint!

  • you should put a guard over it

  • @gedkidd17 especially if the weld were to break on that axe head...

  • Fuck that get a helmet man

  • A heavy spinning wheel with no safety features and an axe head attached to it... I so no was in which this can be dangerous.

  • Bit boring .........would have been nice to see him trip over and the back of his head get served to the splitter wheel.

  • Nice buut try that with Australian hardwood.

  • Nice setup, and the operator stay well away from the splitter when feeding the wood. Good show.

  • So what happens when the weld breaks and the wedge come off? That thing is too scary for me.

  • look ma, no hands!

  • Stop that please!

  • one of the Mexicans working for at my house cut his finger off it was scary

  • I think I'd have to hit the Royal Crown to run that,, but its interesting

  • stupid ffffffffen machine

  • That thing is wicked! Fast, too... I'd hate to fall into that thing!

  • This thing is a death trap

  • now thats one hell of a widow maker

  • whatever works i guess

  • Damn that's a fast way to split. Scary though

  • This it the dumbest piece of machinery ever built! seriously how dumb can u be lol i seriously hope u get your arm ripped off

  • Shouldn't the wheel be spinning into the table? or is it?

  • mad fucking yanks is all I can say..........Aussie Jim

  • @jimbothegarbo

    I am Canadian mate!!!

  • @lamichaud I absolutely, with most humble sincerely apologise for calling you a yank, I have Cannook blood running in my veins. My Gran come from Alberta, met my Pa in London during the war.

Still ......bloody dangerous looking splitter though........Cheers from Aus.....Jim

  • @jimbothegarbo You ever call an American southerner a "yank", you'll find yourself in a fight!! Rebels fought the yanks in the civil war!

  • I see dead people.

  • @junior2004hasz I see people without Arms!

  • verey dangeros remember wen you get hurt bad youl say it wasant worth it

  • Would you think to put your head there on the place of wood.

  • looks dangress

    do you have insurance

  • I wonder if the videographer used one of those jumpy cellphone cameras. Lousy quality....

  • Great! spent a lot of time swinging a maul and then cleaning up stuff that the maul was tiresome for (like hickory) with a hydraulic splitter. Always hated running the hydraulic splitter, seemed like it did so little work for how much power the engine was kicking out. Hydraulics sure make putting power to specific applications easy, but they are very inefficient in terms of power consumption. Always wondered why there weren't many momentum type machines, I've only seen one commercial one.

  • This is really some scary shit. Not only a helmet should be worn, I would as well recommend to wear chain mail and full body protecting knight´s armour, lol.

  • bury it !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • @1superocky1 TOTALLY AGGRREEEE!

  • hah, love the name of the video

  • Love to see a piece of twisted grained birch go through this....ouch

  • @drfeelnothing or sweet gum

  • Use a hydrolic ram off the tractor oil....

  • wway cool just talking to friend about building one of these for outselves :) thumbs up!

  • make sure you got some good health insurance!!!! best of luck .

  • @biggesthitter

If you still have your thumbs...
