I've met him in real life, when he was back in wales last year he went to a gathering once at a friends house and I was invited. His accent isn't that thick in real life, he puts it on to make it sound more authentic than it is for the american audience. To stand out probably. He's from Cardiff born & raised and their accent is the least-welsh in then country and he's sounding there like he's from north wales. Sad really.

@tbam73 Yeah, it was four hobbits. But the Scottish one (Perigrin "Pippin" Took) there was actually a reason for that. The filmmakers went back in Tolkien's writing and found that the Took family of hobbits had Scottish roots. They cast the Scottish actor Billy Boyd.
