I own a fairly recent Asus G50 which is spec'd out to be quite a bit more potent than this Alienware, though my fiancée just bought one of these with Windows 7 Ultimate, 256GB SSD, SU7300 CPU, and 4GB DDR3 and I have to say I like it lot better than my Asus. The build quality is better, startup time is faster (less than 30 seconds!), battery life is amazing, and the Alienware command center is much better than Asus' direct console. As an everyday laptop, the M11x is just nicer.
Well its either this laptop or an Asus G60Jx that has an i5 and a GTS 360M graphics card, but it gets VERY hot from the reviews and it has a lot of errors like blue screens etc. The only thing making me want the Alienware is the LED's, because I know the Asus outperforms it and I mostly keep my laptop plugged in other than maybe going around the house. Is anyone willing to help me out?

I was deciding betwen the asus and the g60 for quite some time, and personally, i would rather go for the larger more powerful piece of hardware. But, is settled with the m11x because the size of the screen really isnt too much of a difference when playing on a laptop anyway. With the customization i got for my m11, it blows away asus's machine.

I think it might be time to sell my Dell XPS m1210. Granted my 1210 has a 2.16Ghz Core 2 vs this 1.3Ghz core 2. My 1210 only has an nvidia 7400Gs that gets 961 for a 3DMark06 score vs over 6000 for the M11x.
I bought mine and I'm in the US. Dell said the arrival date was 3/10, but you're in England so I would guess later than that. Anyway I would think it starts to ship in late february or early march

The standard chip is dual core. The only difference between the su4100 and the su7300 is the su7300 had an extra 1mb of L2 cache and it supports virtualisation. So if you are going to use XP mode in win 7 pro or ultimate you are gonna wanna get the su7300.

@000rodney000 first of all youre retarded. most games are now easily installed without having to use a disc drive. steam has almost all games in its library and through it you can input your cd keys. learn something about computers before you try to sound intelligent.

No. Optical media is dead. Download steam and grab all your games from the cloud. For legacy stuff already on CD simply copy the contents to a USB drive from another computer.

don't you need the cd to actually play the games though. if theres a way to do it without that, i will be very happy if you could tell me. im a bit worried about the lack of a cd drive myself for things like the sims.

Every single game I have purchased was in DVD format but for pure portability sake, I play all of them without a CD. Some have official patches that remove the CD check and others don't and require you to use an unofficial NOCD patch.

The rated Front Side Bus is irrelevant to performance -- only relevant to overclocking ability.
You can't compare CPU's based on clock speed alone. They are different architectures. It's like saying a Pentium 4 at 4.0GHZ is better than an i7 at 2.6GHZ.

I'm not comparing clock speeds, I'm comparing performance based on two processors. Pentium 4 is a single core with like 1mb l2 cache. Compared to i7's 4 core, each core hyperthreading. i7 Doesn't utilize FSB, and Front side bus isn't solely based off of overclocking. Its basically how fast the cpu transfers information to north bridge and this is a huge factor no matter what clock speed. I hope you're joking with that statement. Also according to your theory, we have 2 processors one with 50mhz FSB and one with 500mhz, and both same clock speeds. And you're going to tell me that they will perform similarly? Dude FSB is a huge factor yes when you overclock you raise the FSB, check voltages, all that stuff, but saying its for overclocking purposes is just real ignorant.

50MHZ - 500MHZ is a big gap, but get two processors with the same specs but with that difference and benchmark them.
I was talking about more minor gaps, like, 800MHZ and 1066MHZ.

Its a pretty obvious outcome. If you have same cache but higher fsb the CPU with the higher front side bus will outbenchmark it. It is common sense, but this is obviously on stock speeds.

what? su processors are dual cores but they are low end processors, they consume way less power than a normal core 2 duo. plus the normal core 2 duo run @ speeds faster so if you have planned to have a computer with a low consume electricity processor. please don't think you can play intense games with it.

I play CSS with crossover games. It sucks because since I upgraded to snow leopard I get nasty crashes!
I'm not much of a gamer anymore though. But I think this laptop is pretty close to the Macbook pro 13" from now. But this laptop has a smaller screen and is a little cheaper. And of course is windows.
