  • A lovely theme with touching lyrics a great gentle sitcom that will be watched by generations to come while many cynical crude ones will be forgotten.

  • this gets request at funerals

  • I really love this theme tune.

  • That's an incredibly depressing song for what's meant to be a comedy programme :(

  • @J20M07 it's also meant to be nostalgic, hence the song!

  • That's a rely nice song they shed have put it on the TV series

  • R.I.P Nora Batty and her wrinkled stockings

  • R.I.P NORA

  • Nora Batty is a scary thing you would like to get on the wrong side of her lol

  • singing in it, iv'e never seen this before.

  • A lovely version of the theme, shame the film itself has been so overlooked.

  • very interesting stuff, never heard this with the words before.

  • it has been repeated, but most recently in the mid 90s

  • What happened to the full episode? It was on here a while back. I understand this film has never been repeated or at least not for many years.

  • thanks for posting x

  • I Love This T.V. Classic.

    Long may it Continue

  • Interesting trivia. Thanks.

  • Thank you for uploading this! Could somebody please post the lyrics? My English is too bad to understand every single word :-(.

  • the video is subtitled, just click the box with the up arrow, and click on "turn on captions"

  • Oh, thanks, I didn´t know this feature!

  • Quite sad, I have to say!

  • I wasnt gonna mention this but since in your last annotation you asked for any corrections...well John Comer died of throat cancer rather then lung cancer and thats why he had to have his lines dubbed. Other then that you did real well to bring out the spirit of this fine series. There is something about the melody that starts each episode that seems to mean something to all of us, peace, tranquility, nature & nostalgia. The words in this rendition only furthers that effect.

  • thanks...I've corrected that annotation. Glad you like the video

  • Yep,,,Bill Owen (Compo) wrote the lyrics. Beautiful indeed.

  • Actually, Roy Clarke wrote these lyrics (first used on the 1981 xmas special "Whoops", then on this special, and rewritten by Clarke for Compo's Funeral episode).

Bill Owen did write some lyrics for the tune, but they was never used in the programme.

  • I was whistling this tune this morning at my dawn time swim in the Gulf. I never new there were words. Brilliant!!! Thanks for posting.

  • first feature lenght

with the great Bill Owen = Compo, Peter Sallis = Clegg and Brian Wilde = Foggy

  • I never knew that was a song.

  • This intro has lyrics!

  • Getting Sam Home is my Favourite Episode ever.

  • this reminds me of the early 90s on sundays, when i was a kid

  • Great episode this one "Getting Sam Home".
