  • Yes, it's got some solid state in the pre-amp stage, and an all-tube power stage. This makes it really good in that you get power tube saturation/overdrive/distortion of a clear, defined signal, which is exactly what you want. Most hybrids are buzzy little Pre-amp tube stages into loud, clear solid state power stages that accurately amplify the buzz. Toasty power tubes sing, and this amp's got it!

  • I love my xd, it plays pretty much any style of music.

  • xD !!!

  • hi if you play all kinds of guitar music like clean to metal to rock to jazz to bleus

is it good for metal without pedal or should i just take a metal pedal in front of the amp without voice i mean the all tube clean?

does it takes pedals perfectly? cuz the tone without voice is all tube right?

  • wow what kind of guitar is this???

  • should i go with the super champ or vox valvetronix?

  • @mrbigndtasty super champ easy my friend... haha valvetronix sux

  • I have only had my orange crush pix for 3 or 4 months and I wanted one of these so badly I bought one today, can't wait for it to get here, but don't buy the orange, go for the super champ!:P

  • 4:59 , I can actually play my favourite Van Halen riff!

  • It’s a hybrid, but I’ll tell ya, my Fender Vibro, is the best sounding, versatile little practice amp, I have owned. Not a Fender man and I loved that amp. To my ear, I never heard a hint of solid state. Fun amp. I gave mine to my uncle last year, with the intent of another one for me, I was into the drums then. I was just looking at the Marshall Class 5, which to my ear, in the.videos, sounds like a complete one trick piece of shit, compare to this amp. I may grab the Super instead of the Vibro

  • you said 15 WATTS, but it is 50 WATTS :P

  • @philipthedude Except it is 15 Watts....

  • This amp is not "all tube". Not even close. It has a 12AX7 driver before the 6V6 output tubes. The entire preamp is op amps. Solid state. This doesn't mean it can't be a cool little amp but I wish people would stop advertising these amps as all tube. Learn to read schematics. It will save you much grief.

  • @satinwhip you must admit that while this doesn't have a tube rectifier, the fact that they have integrated a 12ax7 anywhere in the preamp section and at least a 6v6 in the output section means that all in all, that is much cooler and much more "tube" than a traditional "solid state" amp.

  • @playmoregtr I think it has a 12ax7 driver tube and I know for sure it has TWO 6V6s output tubes because I saw the amp in the flesh in a music shop the other day(O'Ma states this at 1:30-1:41). Technically not a pure tube amp, depends if you want the digi-effects or not.

  • After listening to a ton of videos on Fender amps, finally, one that showcases the actual amp itself instead of showing off guitar skills. Good job!

  • TUNE YOUR GUITAR!

  • A single coil strat would have been nice to hear through a fender amp

  • Good review. I clicked dislike by mistake though!

  • this or orange crush?

  • @iannyrockwell

    this

  • So how does the voicing work? I understand that this amp is all tube, but what about the voicing? I don't want a shitty line 6 amp that looks like a Fender, if that's what it is.

  • Great Reveiw ! Great amp, but I beleive the new Fender Mustang amps have now superceded this great little tube amp.

  • could i put kt66s or el34s in this thing?

  • What guitar are you playing??

  • Great review! I've had mine for more than 3 years now and you've made me proud to own it! Now if Fender made one for 150 watts!

  • when will the tubes wear out and which ones do i replace. sorry i dont know much about tube amps. please answer!

  • @JMLizardKing1971 Well, if you use the amp often and play fairly loud, then you'll need to replace the power tubes every 4-5 months, and preamp tubes ever other power tube change. So the first time you replace tubes, only replace the power, the second, replace all of them. That's the rule I go by.

  • @JMLizardKing1971 tubes are like lightbulbs you can never tell, they may go in a week, 6 months , a year. when using tube amps when you turn them on you should leave them for about a minute for the tubes warm up. also like light bulbs if theyre shaked about alot and stuff they'll go, stock tubes should be ok and last at least 6 months, usually they have warranty you replace them when they blow or start sounding weird and well ask a tube technichian he can help you more than me

  • @KhaarJoon thanks so much bro!

  • @JMLizardKing1971 glad i helped mate :)

  • Stupid guy who wrote the description... what did Beatles that was wrong?!

  • Comment removed

  • @dave422x ohh, ha, ha, ha... ok, if, I said if, you were right... then what more were they wrong about?... 'cause I noticed that it said "a lot"... and you obviously didn't...

  • this amp sucks i owned one for like 8 months there is no mid control you would not think it would make a difference but i missed it. also it is not versitile at all so if you play heavier than queen and led zepplin cause the rest of the distortion past that sucks ass buy a peavy vypyr tube.

  • @21zband

Yeah, whatever. Judging by the "extremely bad" Metallica video on your channel, you're into metal. For people who don't need uber gain this is an awesome, versatile, compact, just all around badass little combo. Plus you CAN play metal with it, if you don't have enough gain onboard, which you DO, you can always use a pedal to boost it a little.

  • @WoWintosh ok wow you actually to went my channel and watched my video to comeback and tell me something that makes just about as much sense as the guy reviewing this. I owned it I did not like it and just for your info I am not just into metal actually I like jimi hendrix, led zepplin, srv and cream just as much as I like pantera and metallica. See I stated my opinion you did not like it fuck off. it is verstitile to the point of maybe like gnr or motley at the most so dont fucking troll me.

  • @21zband well its a fender amp its purpose is cleans. you want loads of gain buy a marshall or a mesa boogie

  • how well does this amp interact with pedals

  • @TheLateBloomers1990 Pedals work best on the clean channel, not the amp voices. The clean channel is all tube. The amp voices are solid state.

  • "awsome Metal riff"

    15!!!....ok

    "slow jazz riff"

  • what guitar is that?

  • @Metallideth94 Hagstrom? kind of a hagstrom headstock.

  • is this like the fender mustang amp? i previously had a bad experience with that amp cos its over complicated and sounds cheap...

  • Could you use this for a small gig

  • Knives Out! Awesome amp

  • voice 16 is actually an acoustic voicing according to Fender. And this demo in no way reflects how this little amp sounds. You could sit there for hours on each voicing moving knobs getting amazing tones. This demo makes it sound like a high pitched brittle sounding toy amp.It is very gigable,Run a 1x12 or more and you couldn't want a sweeter sounding amp

  • I love 4, 13, and 16....

  • #11 is awesome. Such a great amp.

  • I own one. It's a wonderful recording amp, given its versatility, especially for comping. By accident I discovered that voicing setting #6 is absolutely ideal for single-note jazz melody work. Voicing #10 is kickazz with my Fender standard strat. And for jazz comping, my favorites are setting 1, 15 and 16. I wish Fender would offer...say...a 50-80-watt version with a 12" Eminience speaker or the like. That would truly be an awesome amp...oh, downside: no combination effects, just single.

  • fender amp, and a les paul?! strats sound orgasmic with superchamps :/

  • the name is zo lolXD CHAMP XD!XD

  • 7:49 Knives Out - Radiohead. First time I ever heard that song on a demo

  • Soooo sad. A Fender amp demo without trying out the clean reverb.

  • is this proper for an epiphone casino

  • why are you refering to the beatles

  • i have this and love it.....to get it for band playing loud i run the line out into the fx in on my fender concert 60 watter you get same tones just super loud (because using the fx in you are running through the concerts power amp only)..just dont run the line out into the guitar input on another amp..WAY TOO MUCH VOLTAGE..so it will blow up the input section of the second amp..I wish this guy read the manual and told what each voice was...

  • This is an amazing amp. I have a Vox AC30CC2, Fender Deluxe Reverb RI, Fender Blues Deluxe RI, an AC4 and a Mega Boogie Nomad 55 which I share with my brother as well as a couple solid states. This amp, holds it's own. It's incredible stock!

  • I'm stunned.... this little amp seems to tackle anything and everything. for 300 dollars I'm going to trade my line 6 for this . PS: does it like pedals?

  • Beatles were never wrong. ;d

  • totally different,

    totally different

    omg totally different

  • Thank you so much for your review! I just ordered one.

  • YES!!! i though they were gonna talk about the box like they do with pedals

  • 00:38 SUCK IT

  • This amp has a modeling preamp section. 1/2 of the 12AX7 is used to amplify the models and the other half is a split load inverter to the power tubes. All of the trickery happens in the digital domain.

  • What guitar is that?

  • @mitchpsychedelic it looks like an esp xtone

  • 5:47, lol

  • you play like a gorilla

  • I have six amps at the moment( Dr Z Carmen Ghia, a Trace Velocette, a champ 500, super Champ, Laney and a Lab Series L3). The Fender is the one that gets played the most. I really like voice 16 on channel 2.

  • Hi . ive just bought today the Fender SuperChamp XD and i dont know why it doesnt works i can only hear something like a low fuzz or something, the guy of the shop told me to wait a little bit so the amp could get loaded or something (sorry my bad english) ii waited like 10 minutes and it was still the same Please respond

  • Champ XD or a more expensive fender all tube amp?

Is it worth the money value?

  • Your talking about all tube and throwing bunch of stuff to the air like "6v6" but you probably don't know that the second channel you reviewed is not amplified by tubes at all, its all transistor shitty tone. The first channel is the most beautiful one which is really powered by tubes and you didn't played it at all!

  • @CyanideV ....I don't think that's true. The modeling stuff is digital but the output still goes through the tube output stage. The clean channel bypasses the modeling DSP.

  • Does anyone know what amp has a similair clean as the 16. super clean?

  • is that thing loud enough for band rehearsal?

  • @dervente depends on the drummer.

  • I remember reading the manual, and it says why they're assigned to that number.

  • @fattyJNL Maybe they should have read the manual before doing the review? As I recall 1-3 are supposed to be Tweed sounds, 4-6 are BF sounds. 7 is supposed to be a overdriven Vox. After that you get into Hot Rod and Marshall sounds. The last 2 are very clean; one for an acoustic sound (don't remember which is which).

Also, the preamp is SS with a 12AX7 for the phase inverter.

  • @holgaguy Yes that's it or something.

  • this amp dont go to 11, it goes to 14! lol gotta love spinal tap references

  • @Slash7a

Actually, It goes to 16 mothafucka!

    :P

    xD

  • @Slash7a

Gotta love the same one every time/

  • I going nutz here...I'm trying to find an amp I like the sound of and have it serve 2 purposes of being able to practice in an apartment and record and maybe ....the tiny terror sounds amazing but I don't know if it's reasonable for an apartment....this one seems to be just right and it almost sounds like a tiny terror....any input from you guys and gals...please :)

  • @stevoe1000 i own this amp. and i also own an orange dual terror amp. and this one stands its ground. im in love with it at the momment.

  • @Hakuro10 Thanks man, I tries the vibro champ yesterday and was not so impressed....I sounded better on youtube than the super champ but in person the vibro was quite noisy and just not nice...the super is a lot cleaner...i also tried a vox valvtronix 15 yestaerday and I must say I was impressed...it sounded better thal all the amps I tried yesterday in 3 shops...I have been avoiding modelling amps with a passion but this one just hit the spot with all the fender tones and marshall...damm

  • 3:34 "I am not sure if these are arranged in any sort of particular logic"

READ THE MANUAL next time, before a review!

Each of those numbers represent a simulation of a specific amp type. e.g. Blackface etc...

  • There's an 11? I'm sold. :D

  • From a birds-eye-view you look like the guy from inception. Even from a regular angle you look a bit like him.

  • "These go to eleven" :D

  • Comment removed

  • "up to eleven" lulz

  • @Traumzimmer 5:47? Hahahaha

  • turn that fucking volume up, i want to feel the goddamn valves man!

  • i got this amp yesterday it is absolutely brilliant.

  • I'm confused :o/ Is this a hybrid amp, a tube amp or what?

  • @EuropeFactor all tube

  • @EuropeFactor It's a hybrid amp. A fucking marketing scheme. Check the website.

  • Does anyone know what guitar he's using?

Also, did he mention what voice 3 is? Or is it just a super saturated fender?

  • 00.09-00.28 : sounds like shit from line6 without tone

  • 07:00 xDDD

  • Comment removed

  • is this like the shit from line6, emulating sounds?

  • i like the piece at at 07:42

    from what song is it?

  • @lucefice "knives out" by radiohead

  • @Zebbie86 thanks :)

  • "Owen digs into all sixteen, plus the digital effects section, in this all-valve amp demo." Awwwwwwwww dudes, it's not an all-valve amp, do your research!

    Great demo, all the same.

  • @doogdoogdoog the amp technically is all-valve on the first channel, but the second channel with all the different voices is solid state.

  • FINALLY a good review of an amp - cool guy, not trying to show off, but has the true feeling of a musician enjoying hearing a new toy! Recording is clean, just a mic pointed at it (actually sounds good pointed to the center of the speaker, which was a surprise).

Thanks Owen! You should say your name louder, you're on youtube dude :) lol

  • What guitar is that?

  • Thanks for the review. Its nice to see someone show you the basic tones of an amp without reverb. It always amazes me how people demo an amps tone and expect you to get a true idea of what they sound like and never turn off the reverb. I have a vintage Super Champ(stock and I covet it) and would love to see a comparison video.? Does this amp have good clean headroom when cranked?Loud enough to Play next to a drumset without breaking up?

  • I love and respect fenders, both amps and guitars, but this amp has a boring and sterile sound no matter what settings you use. buy some other fender amp. remember good sound costs

  • Is this amp good for playing at home?

  • @mikelrhcp yes very much so. i have a very eclectic musical taste so with this i go from metal to bluesy or jazz or whatever i feel like and it holds up very well. heck i use this for small events at my church. throw in some pedals and you can do anything.

  • what van halen riff was that at 5:00? :D thx

  • @SanjaTheMaster Ain't talkin' 'bout love

  • @jwahh Thanks :D

  • @SanjaTheMaster It was Ain't Talkin' 'Bout Love

  • @nickusa317 Thanks :D

  • How much cash would one of these guys set me back?

  • @minotaur949 about 400 bucks

  • @SwanSong2156 hmm, not bad

  • @minotaur949 well man it depends where ur from, i live in ireland and its a round 360 euro, if ur in america it bee around 200 dollars, and around 300 if ur in the uk, anyways hoped this helped:)

  • @SwanSong2156 From Ireland here too =P Was just in a shop there an hour ago and saw one for £210, which isn't too bad

  • @minotaur949 nice man i dno if your familiar with waltons but thats tha only place ive seen it and there chargin 368 quid for it, where is this shop, dublin?, :)

  • @SwanSong2156 Music Galleria in Lisburn, just outside Belfast, might even be cheaper in some of the large music stores in belfast

  • @minotaur949 wow man thanks i never tqught qbout shoping up the north, the only problum with that is im only 14 and i dnt have a car

  • @SwanSong2156 =. , you could maybe order it from one of the larger shops like Matchetts in Belfast, although by the time you take the price of postage it might just be the price it is where you are

  • @minotaur949 ye well thanks for the advice anyway i apreicate it:D

  • good enuf for small gig???????

  • punkeratheart = guitar noob

  • It's not an all tube amp. In fact it is impossible to bypass all the solid state "voicing" components in the amp and just play through the 1 preamp tube in to the power section. It's a hybrid. Having both preamp tubes AND power tubes doesn't make it an all-tube amp, having a signal path that consists of tubes from input to output, and no transistors, OAs, ICs,FETs, JFETs, MOSFETs, etc, but ONLY tubes, THAT is what makes it an all tube amp.

  • Eargasm at 7:12

  • 4.00 -orgasm

  • To buy list:

    Vibro Champ xD Check

    2 Super Champ xD: Pending

    2 4x10 Cabinets: pending.

  • @thehornypuppy How is the Vibro Champ?

  • @datluigi It's a little piece of mega win...the sad thing about it it's that it doesn'y a footswitch for all the things it has inside. I mean 16 voices and, reverb, chorus, tremolo, delays...and combinations of them.

And you can always plug it in to a bigger cabinet and this is like a new trend...everyone is doing low wattage amps...Orange, VOX , Epiphone etc...but go check orange tiny terror.

  • @thehornypuppy Pff, I can barely afford a 150$ amp and I'm using a $30 amp because my P15R broke, I'll be happy with anything over 100 dollars :P

  • You might of looked at the manual before looking at the channels. They are organized based upon Silverface, Blackface, British, Metal, Jazz, and Acoustic....

  • does this sound more like a tube amp or solid state

  • Hey

    Im am rock-hard rock player

what you would recomend to me? this fender or am marshall Mg 30 fx?

  • @mapordos um dude seriously???? that amp has got alot of mixed reviews but mainly its regarded as uterly TERRIBLE, this amp is 10 times better than the mg series, i would prefare this amp over any of the mg series, i recorded to records with my school, last year we went to a professional studio we couldnt bring our own amps we hav to use a mg fx full stack and it sounded terrible, just read lots of reviews mostly customer roviews trust me this amp is WAY better, hope this helped mate :)

  • I owned this amp for 2 years and LOVED it. Recorded a CD using just this one amp and a compression and TS-9. I've played Telecasters all my life - just love them - and this amp did right by them. The gain really controls the "depth" on a lot of the channels, i.e. channel 1 and 2 (blackface? If I remember right). I play a lot of "classic" rock (makes me feel old!) light jazz, blues. I about bought the Fender Blues Jr., but this had SO much more "characters" to play with. Need another for studio

  • @bluestudio67

Thx for one good comment... These fellows here talk and debate only shit... And I who want to know people experienced opinions of the amp, get only to see some useless debates.. geez. I got this amp and i'm proud of it, just would need to get stratocaster at some point. :p

  • @Uchih4C1oud lol Glad my comment helped :) Just the other day, I was in Guitar Center of Evansville and decided to try all the small combo's with digital modeling (sp?) and once again bought the Super Champ XD for recording with. Man, I tried EVERY brand that was less than $500 and still walked away with it. I was kinda hoping the Vox advt would sound better than it did, but alas, it did not. My wife said "After all that, you still want the same amp?" Poor woman, I was in there 1.5 hours! lol

  • @bluestudio67 So for 3 years of recording cd's it's still number one in my book. JMO though. :)

  • Why do we have all these amateurs posting their home made gear reviews?

If you cant play you will make anything sound shit - including a 59' Les Paul through a Marshall stack.

  • should i get the peavey valveking, the vox valvetronix 100 watt, the fender frontman 212r, vypyr tube or fender super champ XD

  • I have a Fender FM212r amp and have played through a VOX valvetronix amp. My brother in law had a Marshall "valve state" amp too. I would't buy either one of these. Just stay with a all tube, you'll be happier with a smaller tube amp than with the bland solid state sound.

  • @TheSuicidalSquirrels Depends on what your rig consists of and how you want to play I guess. The frontman is a very good amp with awesome cleans(needed for pedals) but it has no other effects, except reverb. If you want to use the amp alone get this or the vipr tube. I havent played the vox. As always try everything out.

  • did Owen fail at message in a bottle at the end? XD

this amp sounds alright. I'm considering learning guitar, I am a bass player, and this seems like a nice well priced little amp. I like voice 15, but that's just me.

  • what he never said is that each effect has different settings aside from the effect volume knob

  • man,he looks like the typical church dude who is hanging around on international chúrchmeetings with the pope..

  • @ollyworld What does that have to do with the gear review?

  • To Eleven@!!!!2112`1elevenone!!111

  • @skaterguitar4ever Aint talkin bout love

  • this is an awesome review. hey, i'm kinda lazy; could anyone post the names of the van halen and radiohead songs he played?

  • I put a Jensen and new JJ pre-amp tube in. Unbelievable! I run with a H&K Red box into the board for larger gigs.

    Killer...

  • Very nice review

  • i Can't believe it a Gearwire review I actually liked. I like this guys review of this great amp.

  • The Vibro and Super are great, versatile, little amps. That little bit of Radiohead came out of nowhere.

  • A good unprejudiced demo.

I have had my SCXD for only about thee months, and yet it seems a lifetime ago in terms of the tones and sounds I have been able to explore. Since being added to my kit it has forced a room full of gear into retirement.

This is dollar for dollar, one of the best and most useful amps I have had over the past 40 years of playing.

And forget this stuff about it being just for practice and recording. I have yet to meet the night club it can't handle with ease.

    Kudos Fender.

  • @Beeblebrox55 Totally agree Beeble - And it's $300 street- less than a lot of the "boutique" stomp boxes people are trying to use to recreate these sounds.

  • @Beeblebrox55 One more idea - buy a pair of them and A/B... for $600 you've got 30 watts and all the flexibility you'd ever want.

  • That's a great idea moucon, especially for stereo guitars. So far my SCXD is doing fine solo. I did install an Eminence Ragin Cajun speaker about 6 weeks ago which made it heavier, but brought out the amps amazing tones even more. I may even play around with some Tung Sol tubes down the road.

I also like the idea of the custom cabinet upgrades out there that allow you to install a 12" speaker.

I no longer use my '74 Vibrolux reverb, Vox AC15 or 10 year old Blues Jr.

The SCXD is my new best buddy
