  • Myles Goodwyn was a sublime talent. A bit of a dick, but at least he could back it up. April Wine - arguably the best Canadian rock band ever.

  • For my money, which people, is a hell of a lot, this has one of the best riffs in all of rock and roll.

  • "The Nature Of The Beast"....their best album by a mile!!

  • My buddy and I in his dad's Elky (El Camino), SS 396, 4-speed. His dad never found out (Whew!), just out fucking around. We'll never see days that great again...

BTW, speaking of his dad: R.I.P., Jack, 2007. We wish you'd've talked to us all first...

  • Under the River Rd overpass on I-80. 1982, 1am, 2 cars stopped on the hgwy. My buddies 440 GTX and another dudes 429 BOSS Mustang. The bet: $100 & girls. First one to Rte. 47 in less then 4 min. (approx 8 miles) w/o headlights. Start 'em up, and pop in the April Wine 8-track, and GO! Those were the days. By the way; we won.

  • @DjJtown Thanks for the 8-track reference, kids these day would'nt even know what an 8-track was... loved it when it would eat the tape and ya had to take it out and try and straighten it so you could do the qwick pull on one side so it would suck it back up and then back it the tape player and hope it played...lol

  • The real deal

  • a friend of mine lived in an apartment next to these guys in the 60s and early 70s and when they would practice the police showed up every night, but they sounded great the police would come up and talk to them about guitars and amps and stuff, they knew all the cops in the area by the time they moved out. He said they were great.

  • I first heard this about 30 years ago when I was living in Greece. It sounds just as good now to a mid fifty year old. it brings back memories of good times. Good to hear that they are still touring. I still have an old tape of Natue of the Beast, great stuff.

  • Man this song was heavy for it's time. Great album. Great band

  • My favorite tune on this album. Brings back the memories...

  • One of those rock songs that rips your balls out through your nose. April Wine, FTW!

  • Back when Metallica played speed metal, if the would have covered this song it would have kicked ass! 500mph!!

  • One of their best songs!

  • Does anybody know if there was a Speed Metal song prior to this one. Or did Speed get its start with a "Crash" & a "Burn"?

  • @Chuichupachichi

When was this written then? Need to know that first, and the poster isn't telling..

  • @HengistTheGreat

I hear you, thats what I was thinking but I'm not certain of the exact year of this song. However, I'm pretty certain that its somewhere between 1979 & 1981. Didn't speed metal kick in about in the mid 80's? Those were the "Days-O-Buds" and remembrance of them is sometimes difficult to sort through all the extra hours that existed : )

  • @Chuichupachichi

A lot of people feel that Queen's "Stone Cold Crazy" (1974?) is speed metal. Either way, I'm taking nothing away from these guys, they seem to have had some good tunes, and I'm sorry I only stumbled upon them recently. Are they still gigging with a lineup of some sort?

  • @HengistTheGreat They still tour, the lead singer Myles Goodwyn is still with them as well as Brian Greenway from this video.

  • always ONE brain dead "single digit" IQ faggot to talk shit about someone on youtube, you know what loser, these guys KILL still today, and YOUR NOT the FAGGOT ON STAGE......THEY ARE :) Hail April Wine, carry on, and QUIT when YOU GUYS want to ;).......dam tweaker.

  • There was one of the CBS' movie-of-the-week biopics about suburban teen drug use on in about '82 and Nature of the Beast served as a sort of soundtrack. I'd heard other radio tracks, but when Crash and Burn played I think it turned me into a hard rock fan. I was 13-14 and I never looked back. Thanks April Wine!

  • when april wile got harder they were badd ass to the max

  • i fuckin hate seeing these guys play now they are old and myles is a dick they are totally slow now QUIT IT U GEEZERS

  • love the wine..still listen all the time, but u r right saw them in Green Bay last year..band was great. Myles sucked..small crowd.. no interaction.. bummer..naz and headeast were great.

  • I caught them in Kalamzoo on the power play tour in the early 80s. always awsome band live. thnx for posting

  • This takes me back. My cousin had a 78 Trans Am and we would start this song, then cover the last 7 miles home before it was over. Was young and stupid, but still a fucking ride!! Really miss those days and thankful to have survived.

  • @darinrn1999 Was it by any chance one of the black one's with the firebird on the hood?

  • @darinrn1999 I had a 454 Buick in 78 and it's a wonder I'm still alive. It could wipe most Trans-Am's but I really loved the black model with the firebird on the hood.

  • @darinrn1999 can relate 100% as many friends didn't make it home from the back road parties while listening to April Wine just a blasting: and it wasn't the fault of the music, was the fault of the age.

  • @darinrn1999 7 miles in 2.30 minutes? Holy shit!

  • I hung with those guys too!

    Too many concerts?!

    Never!Rock on baby!

  • shit!!!

  • for me april wine is a personal fav because in my small upper michigan town they where one of many bands starting out that came to our area and one me over still today i get shivers remembering when love it wish more bands could do that to me

  • i know what you mean man. i never heard of this band in perth western australia (until today) but i wish i was around and got to see them in their glorey days. ACDC was the same for me in my day when bon scott lived just down the road. i still love the good old days!

  • me to, i saw them in a large sold out civic center in upper michigan in the mid 70s. nazareth was the opening act .... the drum solo was and always is the best. actually there drummer is buy far one of the best ive seen to date. they use to combine a killer strobe affect to the raw speed of there drummer (he retired recenetly) wich made for a very nice solo!!!!

  • Crash & Burn, and Future Tense are my favorite Nature of the Beast songs.

    Go Wine!

  • April Wine - Nature of the Beast album was their best. Was the first concert I went to. Loverboy opened up for them. Have been a fan of Canadien rock ever since.

  • I havent heard this in 25+ years I bet, I was like 10 maybe less when I got my hands on the record ( kids are asking what the fuck is a record?)

  • man i love dat drum kit :P

  • OHHHHHHHH-YEAAAAAAAAAA...awesome vid...kudos! Love april wine! Used to say "blues" got me playing guitar, but after watching the 3 guitarists and jerry mercer...well...blues did get me playing guitar...lol...but APRIL WINE taught me to "ROCK!"

  • Just Great Stuff... Only two of these guys left in the band now, Dang!

  • APRIL WINE DOING THRASH METAL! Yeah!!!

  • brings back the early years thanks

  • Man, KZEW in Dallas used to play tons of AW, Rush and Triumph back in the early 80's... Is it just me or was THIS music much better than "popular" music today...Maybe every generation says that but i think popular music is at an all time low point. Cheers, from TX !!!

  • We live in the age of Guitar Hero, pirate downloading and disposable everything. Very few want to work at it anymore. They want to get paid when they are 20 and out. Bands like the one's you mention had/have work ethic.

  • hey, wuz that radio station called Z-Rock? I listened to that station all the time in KC, they always played great stuff, i entered a guitar contest they had. pretty sure they were out of Dallas. April Wine was great, i just checked up on them half expecting the band to be long gone, holy shit they've got 20 albums out and have been smokin in Canada and the world for years. To me, these guys represent all the great music that has been ignored by US radio. I feel cheated.

  • I agree that the popular music today is pretty lame and monotone. No substance or soul to it. Each generation does try to claim the best music, but when it's good it doesn't matter what time it's from. The Beatles and Led Zeppelin are before my time but I love 'em.

  • The most fast rockin' song on their great "nature of the beast" album

  • What a jam!!!

  • Oh hell yes!!!

  • HAHA! YEA BABY!! OH HELL YES!!!

  • excellent band from early 80s era ROCK ON all u hard rockers

  • i gew up on this stuff...the studioversion has some pretty fast licks

  • Fuckin' great!!!!!

  • man this is a band i got into april wine late but man just listen to that sound

  • Glad to hear a 14 year old enjoys real music, not that glorified clone crap they play on the radio these days.

There are so many amazing artists still putting out unique and amazing stuff, but radio will not play them because they do not want to play what is considered "popular"

  • im only 14 but i agree with you guys april wine rocks! truly underated in my opinion there better then led zepplin who only had a few good songs no offence to any one who likes zepplin but you gotta listen to some april wine

  • WHOAAAA led zeppelin?!?! lets not get carried away kiddo, only a few good songs!? when the levee breaks, black dog, dyer maker, over the hills and far away, whole lotta love, stairway to heaven, going to california, achilles last stand, battle of evermore, communication breakdown, just to name a few. i mean come on.

  • hey no offnece i like some zeppelin songs but i only ment "in my opinion" every one has there right toan opinion and thats mine people like difrent types of music difrent artests and so on and so fourth

  • We appreciate your comments Jake. With all due respect, maybe you should spend a little more time on your spelling homework and less time on the internet. YouTube auto spell checks for you, but either you didn't notice or you are some freak adult pervert trying to scam some BS. My guess is the latter.

  • Led Zeppelin was indeed a GREAT band, however they had a tendency to steal old blues stuff for themselves. April Wine is a much more original band in that respect

  • kashmir, houses of the holy, no quarter to name some more haha

  • Underrated...One of the best rock bands of all time.

  • I am from NS and immegrated to the states in '79 AW used to open 4 Rush. one of the only bands that came to the forum. I am look'n 4 a song that I can't find.I thought it was on Stand Back. It's more of a chic song. but not as mushy as "tonite" I can't buy find Standback in the US. Anyone got any ideas? haven't been home since 89. GOOD TIME! AW either chose not to go into US market or had bad mgmt. Neil Young, BTO, & more did fine. CAN has the best comedians no contest.

    Irish Bluenoser.

  • They didn't have the technology of today, just fucking talent.

  • I loved April Wine growing up and being in a band in the eighties. Very talented, for sure. Myles is awesome!

  • kICK aSS, THEY RULED!

  • bandass! booo-ya!

  • One of the most underrated bands of all time

  • @RsWoodCutt These guys really were underrated. If they could of reached out to bigger markets they could of easily had 10 or more times platinum albums. They did have a ton of hits though. I think if they could of kept a steady lineup that would of helped and this would been the one to keep.

  • @RsWoodCutt i never underrated them!!!!!! i wore out their tapes!

  • The true begining of "Hard Rock" Fabulous! Thanks for sharing this clip!

  • I don't think so.

  • same era many bands, was just in the moment, forgive me.... geez.

  • Grandissimi!

  • nova scotia gold! thanks for posting!

  • Nature of The Beast is a great album but I agree with kyuss4me that Stand Back is their best album.

  • Saw them in 2000 and they still are great live! had this on vinyl!

  • Canada's second greatest band

  • who is the best? Rush? or The Guess Who?

  • psshhh, no question. RUSH!

  • i think we all know who i think is the best. you wouldn't be watching this video if you didn't think so either.

  • Don't forget Triumph. They were talented as well.

  • Nature Of The beast was by far their best album. the rest after this was just mediocre!

  • Everything before this was classic though, although you are so right about after...My favorite is "stand back"

  • this is probably the first speed metal song ever! A.W. kicks ass! "just between you and me" got me laid!! THANK YOU MYLES AND CREW!!!!

  • Somehow reminds me of some "King's X" from their "Faith, Hope, Love" days

  • YEAH!! Many Thanks...

  • fricken awesome!

  • awesome! totaly awesome!

  • Where is that song about the fast train?

  • if ya ever saw this vid- the whole set w/out mistakes... 1 of the best bands there ever was.

  • I hate the slowmo effetct when myles was soloing

  • one of the best canadian bands ever i know someone who used to be in a band with myles godwyn

  • Recommendation: Jump in your car, drive it to a german highway (no speed limit!!), put the pedal to the metal and hear this song in your soundsystem.

    It´s almost like having sex....;)

  • Ya Roller is sick, as well as " Oooh what a noght" Cowbell and the "train crossing signal" effect..WICKED!!!!!!!

  • wow what a blast from the past this one of my favorite albums

  • If you like April Wine try Rush

    RUSH ROCKS

  • This is the best April Wine song

  • Can't decide which is my most favourite April Wine tune: This or "Roller". Hell, they both are. YEEHA!

  • Wow I remember seeing the vid for "rock myself to sleep" back in 84 and I recall it was a truckload of suck, that was the first and last I heard of them but i gotta say this one is awesome. I might check out more of thier stuff.

  • yeah that was definitely not april wine's best. that was supposed to be their comeback but the old stuff rocks! i think maybe they were encouraged to go that route by their agent but the stuff they wrote in the basement in waverley will always kick ass!

  • My fav April Wine song ever! I can't play this song loud enough when I'm driving! Kudos for posting this kick ass vid!

  • Killer tune!

  • myles is the man!!! no band has seen a better front man!! he rips thos solos like nothin and his voice is incred able i seen then on 2006 and his voice hasnt changed a bit!

  • these guys toured with Rush in 1977, I saw that too, that was a rockin' night I was 17 and i got so fried lol

  • Woooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo! RUSH ROCKS

  • both bands in one night would be awesome! I had to struggle through corey hart to hear april wine live.

  • Adding Brian Greenway in the late 70s with the 3rd guitar gave them a much harder edge. I saw them last summer in Hamilton no more Garry Moffat and they have Steve Clench back the original bass

  • I saw this tour in Calgary 1981 or maybe 82 at the old Stampede Coral, I also so the Harder faster tour in toronto in 1980 at MLG that was when the rocked the most, didn't really hear to much of them after that.

  • What a rockin' vid!

    Thanks for posting :)

  • I'd love to have this concert on DVD.

  • These guys are awsome

  • Great underrated is right. These guys were a great band that never got the promotion that they should have over here in the ststes. Does anyone know where the video for "Enough is Enough" is here on Youtube...or where I can find it?

  • Cool! Was wondering if this song was posted when I just happened upon it. I see it still has the cheesy 70's-style video effects like for "Gypsy Queen" but that is seriously one kick-ass speed-metal track! Huzzahs for posting it!

  • Great video grom "Live In London" and shows how good they are and Myles skills as a guitar palyer, too. Awesome tune.

  • This song is so awesome, one of the greatest songs in history!~

  • Great band, great song!

  • Excellent. April Wine kicks ass.

  • Awesome video. Thanks for sharing :D

  • Kingfowley is right. This was an underrated band.
