My buddy and I in his dad's Elky (El Camino), SS 396, 4-speed. His dad never found out (Whew!), just out fucking around. We'll never see days that great again...
BTW, speaking of his dad: R.I.P., Jack, 2007. We wish you'd've talked to us all first...
Under the River Rd overpass on I-80. 1982, 1am, 2 cars stopped on the hgwy. My buddies 440 GTX and another dudes 429 BOSS Mustang. The bet: $100 & girls. First one to Rte. 47 in less then 4 min. (approx 8 miles) w/o headlights. Start 'em up, and pop in the April Wine 8-track, and GO! Those were the days. By the way; we won.
@DjJtown Thanks for the 8-track reference, kids these day would'nt even know what an 8-track was... loved it when it would eat the tape and ya had to take it out and try and straighten it so you could do the qwick pull on one side so it would suck it back up and then back it the tape player and hope it played...lol
a friend of mine lived in an apartment next to these guys in the 60s and early 70s and when they would practice the police showed up every night, but they sounded great the police would come up and talk to them about guitars and amps and stuff, they knew all the cops in the area by the time they moved out. He said they were great.
I first heard this about 30 years ago when I was living in Greece. It sounds just as good now to a mid fifty year old. it brings back memories of good times. Good to hear that they are still touring. I still have an old tape of Natue of the Beast, great stuff.
I hear you, thats what I was thinking but I'm not certain of the exact year of this song. However, I'm pretty certain that its somewhere between 1979 & 1981. Didn't speed metal kick in about in the mid 80's? Those were the "Days-O-Buds" and remembrance of them is sometimes difficult to sort through all the extra hours that existed : )
A lot of people feel that Queen's "Stone Cold Crazy" (1974?) is speed metal. Either way, I'm taking nothing away from these guys, they seem to have had some good tunes, and I'm sorry I only stumbled upon them recently. Are they still gigging with a lineup of some sort?
always ONE brain dead "single digit" IQ faggot to talk shit about someone on youtube, you know what loser, these guys KILL still today, and YOUR NOT the FAGGOT ON STAGE......THEY ARE :) Hail April Wine, carry on, and QUIT when YOU GUYS want to ;).......dam tweaker.
There was one of the CBS' movie-of-the-week biopics about suburban teen drug use on in about '82 and Nature of the Beast served as a sort of soundtrack. I'd heard other radio tracks, but when Crash and Burn played I think it turned me into a hard rock fan. I was 13-14 and I never looked back. Thanks April Wine!
love the wine..still listen all the time, but u r right saw them in Green Bay last year..band was great. Myles sucked..small crowd.. no interaction.. bummer..naz and headeast were great.
This takes me back. My cousin had a 78 Trans Am and we would start this song, then cover the last 7 miles home before it was over. Was young and stupid, but still a fucking ride!! Really miss those days and thankful to have survived.
@darinrn1999 I had a 454 Buick in 78 and it's a wonder I'm still alive. It could wipe most Trans-Am's but I really loved the black model with the firebird on the hood.
@darinrn1999 can relate 100% as many friends didn't make it home from the back road parties while listening to April Wine just a blasting: and it wasn't the fault of the music, was the fault of the age.
for me april wine is a personal fav because in my small upper michigan town they where one of many bands starting out that came to our area and one me over still today i get shivers remembering when love it wish more bands could do that to me
i know what you mean man. i never heard of this band in perth western australia (until today) but i wish i was around and got to see them in their glorey days. ACDC was the same for me in my day when bon scott lived just down the road. i still love the good old days!
me to, i saw them in a large sold out civic center in upper michigan in the mid 70s. nazareth was the opening act .... the drum solo was and always is the best. actually there drummer is buy far one of the best ive seen to date. they use to combine a killer strobe affect to the raw speed of there drummer (he retired recenetly) wich made for a very nice solo!!!!
April Wine - Nature of the Beast album was their best. Was the first concert I went to. Loverboy opened up for them. Have been a fan of Canadien rock ever since.
OHHHHHHHH-YEAAAAAAAAAA...awesome vid...kudos! Love april wine! Used to say "blues" got me playing guitar, but after watching the 3 guitarists and jerry mercer...well...blues did get me playing guitar...lol...but APRIL WINE taught me to "ROCK!"
Man, KZEW in Dallas used to play tons of AW, Rush and Triumph back in the early 80's... Is it just me or was THIS music much better than "popular" music today...Maybe every generation says that but i think popular music is at an all time low point. Cheers, from TX !!!
We live in the age of Guitar Hero, pirate downloading and disposable everything. Very few want to work at it anymore. They want to get paid when they are 20 and out. Bands like the one's you mention had/have work ethic.
hey, wuz that radio station called Z-Rock? I listened to that station all the time in KC, they always played great stuff, i entered a guitar contest they had. pretty sure they were out of Dallas. April Wine was great, i just checked up on them half expecting the band to be long gone, holy shit they've got 20 albums out and have been smokin in Canada and the world for years. To me, these guys represent all the great music that has been ignored by US radio. I feel cheated.
I agree that the popular music today is pretty lame and monotone. No substance or soul to it. Each generation does try to claim the best music, but when it's good it doesn't matter what time it's from. The Beatles and Led Zeppelin are before my time but I love 'em.
Glad to hear a 14 year old enjoys real music, not that glorified clone crap they play on the radio these days.
There are so many amazing artists still putting out unique and amazing stuff, but radio will not play them because they do not want to play what is considered "popular"
im only 14 but i agree with you guys april wine rocks! truly underated in my opinion there better then led zepplin who only had a few good songs no offence to any one who likes zepplin but you gotta listen to some april wine

We appreciate your comments Jake. With all due respect, maybe you should spend a little more time on your spelling homework and less time on the internet. YouTube auto spell checks for you, but either you didn't notice or you are some freak adult pervert trying to scam some BS. My guess is the latter.
Led Zeppelin was indeed a GREAT band, however they had a tendency to steal old blues stuff for themselves. April Wine is a much more original band in that respect
I am from NS and immegrated to the states in '79 AW used to open 4 Rush. one of the only bands that came to the forum. I am look'n 4 a song that I can't find.I thought it was on Stand Back. It's more of a chic song. but not as mushy as "tonite" I can't buy find Standback in the US. Anyone got any ideas? haven't been home since 89. GOOD TIME! AW either chose not to go into US market or had bad mgmt. Neil Young, BTO, & more did fine. CAN has the best comedians no contest.
@RsWoodCutt These guys really were underrated. If they could of reached out to bigger markets they could of easily had 10 or more times platinum albums. They did have a ton of hits though. I think if they could of kept a steady lineup that would of helped and this would been the one to keep.
Wow I remember seeing the vid for "rock myself to sleep" back in 84 and I recall it was a truckload of suck, that was the first and last I heard of them but i gotta say this one is awesome. I might check out more of thier stuff.
yeah that was definitely not april wine's best. that was supposed to be their comeback but the old stuff rocks! i think maybe they were encouraged to go that route by their agent but the stuff they wrote in the basement in waverley will always kick ass!
myles is the man!!! no band has seen a better front man!! he rips thos solos like nothin and his voice is incred able i seen then on 2006 and his voice hasnt changed a bit!

Myles Goodwyn was a sublime talent. A bit of a dick, but at least he could back it up. April Wine - arguably the best Canadian rock band ever.
