  • There's a bit of blasting, but nothing can obscure the sensuous beauty of this voice, or the gusto of the singing, not quite as lady-like as the usual Kurz! Bewitching. And fiery indeed!

  • @AulicExclusiva Everyone's favorite opera critic, John Steane, criticizes this recording as being too reckless. I respectfully disagree and think Kurz sings this music in the appropriate style. It surely is a departure, as you mention, from her usually reserved emotional expression. I also love Rethberg's singing of the piece. Thanks for sending, AE, and thanks to mabuo16 for posting!

  • @AulicExclusiva This Czardas seems to have brought out the wild side of other singers who are normally more restrained, such as the late, great Joan Sutherland. I wonder how Schumann-Heink might have handled it!
