  • Honestly, even though this has a large variety of animals to shoot and all it doesn't look near as fun as Duck Hunt

  • @Evilclown1986 What does Duck Hunt have that this doesn't? Less to shoot at? What is it about Nintendo fans that makes them refuse to enjoy anything from Sega? I'd really love to know it. Multiple backgrounds, varied enemies with varying movement patterns, more than 1 or 2 targets to shoot at simultaneously and a better looking game. A superior game to Duck Hunt in almost every way, but you can't see it being even nearly as fun?

  • @bruhaha69 Nostalgic values I guess

  • @Evilclown1986 I hear ya and I can get that to some extent. If you get a chance, you should still give Safari Hunt a try. If you liked DH, you should be able to enjoy this, too

  • It brings back good childhood memories. It was one of my favorites along with rescue mission. Thanks to my deceased cousin, I came to know Master System 1 also had this third game labyrinth in internal memory.

  • this game makes me hungry. this looks way better than duck hunt!

  • @Chev427BB it was in the SMS model 1, but it was another version, since version 1.3 (the one made in 1986) is the one which has the snail maze.

  • Remember playing this as a kid and getting to the end.

  • 69 stages and then it tells you to go hunting with a real gun...Sega you so naughty.

  • this is one of the 3 games built in to my master system 1, the other two are hang-on and the snail maze

  • I hated this game and Hang-On. My parents got me this crap (and the system itself) back in 1987. I gave it to my cousin the following month.

  • ahh good times :D

  • In some Master System consoles, this game came out in internal memory together with "Hang-On".

  • Best part About This game...No Laughing Dog Required! Thank You SEGA MasterSystem!

  • man I miss that game

  • I like how all the animals turn into zombies after you shoot them and run off to go find some brains to eat.

  • I love this game and i had it as a kid with my master system but one question. Why are we shooting fish and why do they jump out of the water?!!!

  • Hahahaha. At 3:28 the rabbit is like "WTF. is going on here!?"

  • Man, this game sems better than duck hunt.

  • when I was 5 i cheated on duck hunt by touching my tv with the gun and simply drag it wheere the animals appear

  • @rob45645 I always had the gun up against the screen on this game. Fuck it the Iron-sights on the light Phaser where shite. lol

  • the niiiiiice hell yea!!!!!!!

  • i love this music!!!

  • My light phaser's aim is way off--I have to aim far to the left of what I'm trying to hit. It's kind of fun that way because you have to remember the exact distance for each object, but anybody know how I can fix it?

  • @MrJtorg Is your TV screen rounded? Or flat?

  • @Snotnarok flat

  • @MrJtorg That's your problem when that system was released rounded fronts were the norm. Therefore the phaser is designed to work with that kind of screen, and most flat faced TVs will throw off it's aim. The only fix I know is to use a rounded screen TV

  • @Snotnarok Thank you for this vital info! I'll connect it to my other TV.

  • @MrJtorg No problem, it should work. Good luck! :)

  • @MrJtorg open the gun and put the in sides back to their place :D

i thing that you have dropped it or something and the lens inside the hun have moved

  • @AdolfNinjaHitler Thanks for the tip, someone else suggested that it might be due to using a flatscreen TV. It was apparently made for rounded screens. Haven't got a chance to test it yet but if it still doesn't work I'll try your solution. Thanks

  • @Chev427BB Into some models, but not in all of them

  • where do you get such good deals? The cheapest I've seen the HangOn/Safari Hunt cartridge at the local game shops is like $10.

  • @KingDavid73 ebay

  • Shooting Gallery, another SMS light gun game, was incredible.

  • @samkrfc I must've had the Mk 2 then

  • light guns to me always smacked of sourcery!!

I just couldnt get my head around how they worked, i was sure goblins or pixies had something to do with it.....

  • Always found it way better than Duck hunt :D

  • I had the Master System that had this and Hang-On built in. I used to cheat by putting the light phaser up to the tv screen, until my dad caught me and made me learn to play the right way. I did better for it, my highest level eventually being 30.

  • If my memory doesn't fail me, you can also shoot the apples that fall on the second level.

Man, I love this game. My first console ever was a SMS with that game and Hang On on the memory.

  • If my memory doesn't fail me, you can also shoot the apples that fall on the second level.

Man, I love this game. My first console ever was a SMS with that game and Hang On on the memory.

  • That rabbit was a bitch to hit sometimes..i love this game..i still have it somewhere stashed in a box with my old game systems

  • Game Is Over

  • I had only 3 games for the SEGA master system and it was one of them.

  • Mark... for those that have the Master System, this game come with it, built in it's memory.. also Hang-On is on it!!!

Well.. @ least here in Brazil was like this!

  • I love this game, on the latest MasterSystem 1 i got, it's bult in along with HangOn!

My original BOXED one has HangOn ONLY!

  • Haha that game has awesome music my hang on has astro warrior on it :( still good tho. the ending made me fall on the ground laughing.

  • shit

  • Why is it that the graphics on the Master System seems more colorful than the NES? Did Sega put in more technical guts in the Master System?

  • @n00berania it was made after the NES. they got more colors on it, but the music is horrible.

  • @n00berania Yes, the Master System (or the Mark III in Japan) came out a few years after the NES, and had better hardware put into it. It allowed more colours on screen at the same time than the NES.

  • This was the only master system gam i've ever played as a child.

  • The power base converter is nice, but F-16 Fighting Falcon doesn't work on it, and you can't do the infinite lives cheat with Black Belt. I think a couple other games don't work for it too. You'd still do good to get yourself an original Sega Master system. Not the Master System 2. The original!

  • theres one safari game i cant remember its name but its in a pub i know. you shoot animals with tranquilisers in different settings. you get bunus games too like shoot as many ants as you can, or dont shoot the lion or something. and eash level has a special animal to shoot too...its not that bad of a game. the animals are pretty god at avoiding you while turning around and hiding and things

  • sega master system had great music in my opinion

  • My favorite Sega Master System Light Phaser Gun game was and always will be Gangster Town.

  • From what I remember of that game, you can shoot some of the animals twice (the bunny for instance).

  • Muito bom rsrsrsrsrsrsrs

  • This probably wouldn't be able to be played on an emulator, right... XD

I have the original Sega Genesis though which is one generation up from the Master System I think. It's graphics are 16 bit, and the master system's are 8 bit.

  • its common knowledge that the Xbox version of Ghost recon2 is superior to the lame ass PS2 version...Google the reviews.

  • that music in the begin is sweet man love this game fo the master system CLASSIC

  • I had this system and game when it came out. I also had this gun game where you shoot different things like balloons.

  • @jurkis1 That would be Shooting Gallery and yes it ROCKS!

  • Game is Over

    ha ha ha

  • lol I remember when me and my mate just cheated on this lol earlier in the year when i had a CRT tv and a master system hehe..

lol theres like 50+ levels.. hehe

  • I remember when i started my SMS without a game insterted it would let me play a snail game where you would have to navigate through a maze and i remember right it was timed. But action Fighter was my all time favorite for that system.

  • this kicked duck hunts ass big time!

  • Comment removed

  • This was a fun game. My cousins would bring their Master System over every Friday night/Saturday morning, and we'd play this, Hang On, Shinobi, Action Fighter, Fantasy Zone, Rastan, and Alex Kidd In Miracle World.

  • i have Sega Master System with build in Safari Hunt and hang on it's fucking awesome and the system came with Light Phaser :)

  • 'Maybe if you had the power glove, but, I don't think that works on the Master System'

Hell, it didn't even WORK on the NES.

  • omg how nice music at the beginning!!! Brings so much memories from my childhood!! TY So much for this uploading...!!

  • What are they hitting them with? Tranquilizers without the tranquillizers? They just run away.

  • Strangling a rabbit with the Power Glove? Hilarity!

  • It's a pretty well known fact (among game collectors) that the best-selling console is NOT the most-powerful console:

ATARI - not as good as intellivision

NES - not as powerful as SMS or Atari7800

SNES - well, there's always an exception to every rule ;-)

PS1 - not as powerful or "clean" as N64 graphics

PS2 - not as powerful as the Xbox or Cube

Wii - not as powerful as X360 or PS3

  • SNES-jaguar, or some of the sega stuff... <.<

  • Indeed, The Dreamcast pwnd the PS1...

  • sure it did, because it was a next generation console compared to the ps1.... it's like saying the ps3 owns the xbox...stating the obvious

  • Well, you are right, probably they released it too soon, almost 2 years before the ps2...

  • well, it's always questionable whether it was too soon, or not. if they had released it later, the hardware would have been more powerful and more competitive. personally, i think that the dc would have seen less purchases if it had been released at the same time as the ps2, due to the playstation's huge fanbase. thanks to the early release of the dc it could rake in buyers who were early adopters, buyers of all consoles, or who were just too impatient to wait any more

  • you love reposting this don't you?

    And you forgot the Colecovision!

The 7800 wasn't more powerful, since you couldn't add extra RAM via the cartridge. Not to say your point isn't still valid, you should just check your facts more.

  • I'm not sure about the Gamecube, but Xbox was definitely more capable than PS2.

  • Everything you said is completely wrong.

  • Isn't xbox Graphics better than PS2? At least the thing is gigantic and heavy.

  • Yes, the original Xbox had better graphics then the PS2, A good example would be the difference between the game Ghost Recon 2 on the Xbox versus the PS2...the Ps2 version is butt ugly while the Xbox version is nice looking.

  • I will never forget the theme song for this game.

  • My first and still one of my favorites for the Master system. Lovely.

  • xmas 86 i got a sega! the next year a nes!

    good times

  • Reminds me of when I was a kid playing this like an inch from the TV and my stepdad said "you chip that screen, your ass is grass" I'll never forget that nor will I forget hitting the SMS power button with my knee after playing Safari Hunt for over an hour, don't think I ever scored that high again.

  • Racist ? LOL

    Why?

    WTF

  • It has depictions of stereotypical tribesmen.

  • Holy crap, I totally remember that. Best music ever!

  • this music is kick ass

  • LOL I LOVE THE BEGINNING GAME SONG!!!!

  • COOL

  • Its a shame that this game isn't really noted by gaming fans. It looks like a fun game.

And that music is just awesome. I could actually imagine Run-D.M.C rapping on that lol.

  • Haha, that music is intense!

  • Jeez, this game is more violent than Cannibal Holocaust! haha, jk ofcourse. But anyway, this game was definitely inspired by Duck Hunt.

  • All lightguns need a CRT as far as I know. There are some work arounds such as the Wiimote pointer and guns with similar tech (Time Crisis PS3).

  • In what TV did you played this? I've seen a lot of people saying that flat TVs doesn't work with light guns but I don't know if that only applies to the Nintendo one or also to the Sega one.

  • Favorite gun game for the Master System is Wanted. You should definitely check that out.

  • '2:00' hes so right

  • its not just game over when you fail to reach the qualifying score.

    its "game 'is' over"

    lol

  • I love that song. you I uploaded it first! I dont care big fan here :)

  • loved that game in the day (still do) :p

  • lol brain cells

  • I see what you mean about Run-DMC, if they remixed the intro music to Safari Hunt that would be very interesting. I like this game, but i prefer Duck Hunt.

  • there not turning inside out, there turning into like a cokked turkey, like a thanxzgiving turkey

  • LMAO at the machine gun at the end!! :)

  • Grande jogo... saudades do meu Master System!!! Parabéns! No brasil o Master System foi um console muito popular!

  • Podes ainda comprar o master system no brasil?

  • Sim, ele e o MD são vendidos pela tectoy (licsenciado pela SEGA)

Mas sem slot de fita, só com uns 60 games na memória

  • I laughed my ass off at the machine gun effect at the end of the review. Keep up the good work man, I'm a huge fan of your reviews. As another classic gamer who got into Master System/NES as a kid, I appreciate your love for old school as well as new school while at the same time, being perfectly balanced with your reviews and not the whole new school//old schhol bias I find in most classic game reviews. You should get your own show on G4. IMO, youre the perfect reviewer to please everyone

  • Classic Game Room is just what G4 needs - that channel has gone "MTV" on us lately :-(

  • Lately? It's always been a poor man's MTV.

  • @kevin12567 Lately, it's been like MTV since they bought out G4! (Maybe even before that.)

  • glad to see you review some older games again. great job

  • AAaaaah ! Used to play this one all the time when I first got the Master System !!! The music !!

  • You speak true words.

Unfortunately Sega's arcade game "Jambo! Safari" from 1999 was never ported to a home console. A very cool game. It was like Crazy Taxi, where you had to catch animals...

  • I used to serve Theakston's by the barrel load back in my barman days! Good value bitter back then, not sure what it sells for now though. You should try Spitfire, its made just down the road from me!

  • This game looks fun.

And if you want a "safari" hunting game, you could get something like one of the Cabela's Hunting games, most of them have african safari hunts in them to hunt stuff like Lions, Zebras, etc.

  • This is the first game I ever played in my life. Thank you, Mark.

  • i love this game,i got get myself a master system, probably will just get the converter for the genesis

  • wow, Virtua Ernest Hemingway!

  • There was a version of this game hidden in sega's blue stinger survival horror game on dreamcast.

    Review Hang On please.

  • Animal Killer!!! lol I wear a blue lucky rabbit's foot on my belt loop. Great review as aways!

  • I have the Hang on/Safari Hunt 2 in 1 cart, to bad I can't play it, I dun have the phaser

  • ya here we go now baby some real classic game reviews yeaahhhhh!

  • awesome intro music!

  • horrible game, i found it and the console on the side of the road :D

  • HOLY CRAP! THE INTRO MUSIC!!!!!

It just rushed into my brain like any awesome Déjà vu!

  • i love the powerglove, its so bad

  • There are lots of hunting games, I'm not sure how hot they were though I never bought them.

  • great game, really showcases the MS's superior graphics.

  • Imagine MGS Safari. Thought i would put that out there.

  • kill em all

  • That music is straight pimpin'!

  • this brings back some memories... damn!

thanks for posting Mark, you rule!

  • Go sega master System!!!

  • More rockin' tunes on the Master System. Sort of reminds me of Ninja Gaiden Master System.

  • me brain cells no grow back yet!

  • nice beat lol

  • i loved this game so much back in the day lol

  • average home boy beat.. LOL

  • Again, amazing review.

Keep 'em coming! We all appreciate them.

  • When my parents bought my first videogame console (which was a SMS)x back in the 0's, it came with the Hang On/Safari Hunt cartridge. I spent hours playing that game, just trying to shoot the hell out of those panthers.

Damn, I miss that game. I should get a SMS.

  • I loved this game when I had a SMS. I thought it was way more fun than Duck Hunt.

  • You should do a video talking about the new OnLive thing that was just announced, I wanna know what you think about it.

  • The music is fucking sick xD

Also i loled at the far cry part ;)

  • Lol. I love your logic. "Cost a lot less then going on a real safari"

    I LOVE YOU MARK

  • Uncharted is a great game that kind of fits into that safari/jungle category

  • Nice Video...

  • Did anyone hear on Kotaku about that guy in Brazil who held a woman hostage at phaserpoint with the SMS lightgun?

  • Don't tempt him! He'll do it!!!

  • Love your style.

  • cool

  • 2:06 to 2:22 I Rofled!

  • another gr8 clasic game room

  • I love that intro song.

  • Nice songs.

  • If you could find it, I think you'd really like "Rescue Mission" for the Sega Master System. It also uses the light gun, but as a way to escort another character onscreen as they rail-cart their way through a battlefield. They follow the rails patching up wounded soldiers while you get rid of the bad guys on screen attacking them. It's a really interesting twist to an otherwise 'similar' game design, and it can be pretty fun.

  • i think you might be the safari hunt champion of the world!

    nice shootin' tex

  • sick beats

  • well at least there's no dog to laugh at you if you screw up

  • OMG CALL PETA!!! jk petas gay

  • True that.

  • Am I the only one who rates every video 5 stars even before it's done?

  • No, you are not the only one sir...

  • no, i do da same thing

  • Not at all, been doing it since Mark started putting vids on here :)

  • Ha yeah I usually click the 5 stars during the intro music. Cya on the boards :)

Great review, Mark! I favorited this one as well. It's been a great week for CGR:HD.

  • I usually do it as soon as the page loads lol Mark never does inferior work. Indeed we will chat more on the forums, I'll be around as always :)

  • I posted this one time before on a older video. Yeah I just immediately hit 5 stars. You know it's going to be great.

Anyways sweet beats at the intro there!
