  • A Reed masterpiece on a too soon desappeared but 4ever glittering star!! Astonishing!!

  • his beautiful work shouldnt be mixed with with a song that glorifys the disgusting thing that killed him...

  • I really hate andy warhol

  • I love this song (: and I love Basquiat..

In a documentary that was made about him there's this one song that keeps comming back, the lyrics go something like "The clock is pst midnight, .. books are flying through the hall.." or something like that. Would anyone happen to know what it's called? (:

  • @MrsFrogdidou1405 its called bleed a river deep

  • DMT

  • andy warhol

  • A GENIUS!!!

  • does anyone else think this is a great song, and great art, but together distasteful?

  • People have to stop justifying the scribbles of this junkie, as notable artwork. Basquiat is a joke. "Amateurish", would be a compliment. It's the worst of the worst. It's juvenile. And it, generally, only appeals to the smallest minority of the populace, whom can relate to him racially and economically. God, his stuff was bad, and not only in the sense of opinions. He was a man who's only novelty came in emulating typical toddler art, one can find scattered on a refrigerator.

  • Basquait is over-rated. He's like a black version of Warhol

  • check the new wall painting ARABIC VEGAS by 1905 on my profile

  • this nigga is satanic and gay

  • Thank you so so much for this post - Perfect !

  • name of the one at :22, is that called heroin? thanx

  • 0:19 WHAT OAINTING IS THAT?! ive been searching all over the web but cant find it... its my faveorite piece by him

  • seemed like a great person. RIP SAMO

  • munch even did different versions of his scream. soooooooooooo nice video

  • Way to advance for his era.

  • non male, utile comunque per far conoscere il Genio,......ma ci sono immagini ripetute...e l'Urlo di Munch proprio non serviva.

  • jo to je od Edvarda Muncha ten výkřik

  • "Basquiat "was ahead of his time. If he was around today his work would stil be # 1. He has influenced more outsider | Street artist than anyone out there.

    "goatmanartist"

  • SUBLIME,,,,," L'enfant Terrible "

  • No F I have a few drawings and 2 smaller paintings I purchased from Jean in mid 80s...if you want them ,pls email me..I am wish to move on and make other investments now..I won't charge you 'auction' prices, not to fear...as long as they get a good home....pls email me if you get a chance ,as I am very motivated right now...

  • @repelghosts

Did you ever sell your paintings? What is a ball park figure you would be willing to part with them for. I am an artist and lover of his work. My home would pay him the deserved hommage if for nothing else the love they would feel each time I looked at them.

    Thanks

  • all those who hate me love death

  • At 1:19

    The scream- Munch

    Its not the same...

  • original enfant terrible......

  • are you sure the painting at 0:19 is basquiat? if it is does anyone know what its titled?....

  • What a horrid coincidence that so many great artist died at 27. Basquiat, Brian Jones, Jimi Hendrix, Janis Joplin, Kurt Cobain, and that's just mentioning a few in the last 40 plus years.

  • I love this guy now he helped keep me on art it'S the best drug you can find on the planet earth thanks jean R.I.P

  • Great artist, great movie, but unfortunately another wonderful human being dead at 27.

  • nice

  • Heroin- Velvet Underground How on earth did you know SweetOne !! Have a wickedly fun Weekend... And Thank You So So much 4 the Fabulous shares ... Always Lovin You Tricky... Maddest of Green Fairy Love for You Darlin' Peace Mate !!~ tears an ALL !!~

  • I miss you J....still have a few drawings left..love..J

  • @repelghosts I just came back from a showing of his work in Basel Switzerland. Very cool! But I had the feeling, as pretentious arty farty types discussed the fine details that he would have cringed. His art belongs to the people and the street. It has some much heart, music and humor. It is nice to know some of it is in the safe hands of friends.

  • so cool

  • Thinking of Jean MIchel Basquiat ,,,,,,today....a fallen soldier of art....

  • the man is crazy of grafiti... show,

  • a++++++++

  • this was better than the movie!!!

  • XpressivE

  • :-)

  • COOL VIDEO

  • This is brilliant..I love hsi work...

A great artsit.a follower of Andy Warhol....which was his downfall..

    He died so young!

     Thank you for this

    )O(

  • for god sakes, everytime there is a black genius in america, rascist america shuns him, this god damn country is so RASCIST, they were studying jazz in paris before they were in america and it was created here, damn RASCIST, I KNOW THEY MURDERED BASQUIAT, i cry for him.

  • not to beat a dead dog, but something is telling me this guy was murdered so his pieces would increase in value, maybe thats just my conspicary theory, but.....

  • Yet again ,another immature dumb chump death lover Romanticizing the end of a incredibly talented young Artist who had the world in the palm of his hand and pissed it all away. Basquiat death was not Cinematic. It was pathetic. All that talent wasted because he was to weak to see what really mattered.

  • It's Fantastic!!

  • but they are all works of Basquiat

  • love his work!

  • amazing art and amazing song

love jean michael basquiat and lou reed!

  • Bellissimo -_-

  • 0:25 : is that a portrait of himself and Warhol.

  • looks like it. its one of my favorite paintings ive seen

  • I knew him,

    He was one thing,

    He was beautiful.

    Rest , Jeany sweety

  • @repelghosts wow, very cool and very honoured you are to have known such a talented and crazy angel as that one xxxx

  • @repelghosts Tell his spiritI say hi I love him too.

  • the king

  • he just let himself.

all the horror and beauty just slammed right through that (non-existent) wall.

tear it down! let it scream!

  • your right,

it just reminded me of a painting called

"the scream" from a danish artist ?

    or was it sweden ?

or was it just stolen from a museum overthere,

    can't recall.

    that was much darker too,

more like a dark nightmare scream.

it's just the "face" seems so simular it's got me wondering wich piece was created first.

  • Was it Munch's "scream"?

I've made a short video on Basquiat, check it out! Comment if you like, thanks

  • It is not a copy of Scream. What's wrong with using a motive from a known piece? It's like a quote. Basquiat never claimed otherwise.

  • is the paintng @ 1:16 basquiat ? realy ?

  • Yes.

  • What Genius !

  • Perfect!!!!!

  • Most amazing artist!!!

  • Perfect together, this song and Baquiat. I have followed both artists with great passion.

    Thanks!

  • Great video, great song, GREAT ARTIST!!!

  • Wonderful!!

  • Great choice of images. Thanks.

  • Excellent!!

  • Gemma, at 1:15 the Vrej B. show...we all got Jean to oilstick sign the poster with that haunting image hold the beat book by Jack K.

I still haver a pertial fingerprint of Jean's right in the oilstick smudge.Looks awesome on the wall.

Call me if you want that little drawing he did with the Chop suey,Cigarettes,Soda etc.

  • I used to hang out with him, and grab a late night dinner at a local Greek diner. He gave me 3 of his artwork pieces as a present, and I still have them in a storage facility.

  • he was haitian you know is my uncle we miss him a lot

  • thanks for dat

  • lokura punk a mi mas extremo peligro...

  • LIke the idea of the tribute...but considering the lyrics and the vocal skills, it would be better if Lou didn't try to sing. Or whatever he's doing. Maybe I'd respond more to Lou if I just heard him without the band.

  • Just puuurrrrrrrfect!

  • This is excellent! "Heroin" is one of my favorite songs. Each verse gets more intense and discordant while the song as a whole gets more intense and discordant. You did an excellent job putting the images with the music. I saw the movie "Basquait" but never saw much of his work. It's really impressive.

  • perfect combination

    just great!

  • His art was so brilliant but that DAMN heroin spoiled the whole party...and it sounds like some people even feel proud about...a tribute with the appropriate song...wouldn't you be curious how & what he would be painting today...so, many design drugs nowadays...why use smack? So passé...avant garde in art but retarded in drug choice & use...

  • Lindo!!!

  • beautiful. just beautiful. r.i.p. SAMO

  • this is great !

  • 4:35 looks like how cats dress today.

  • terrific tribute to a brilliant and tortured genius...

    ~ much love & respect, intergalaxy <3!

  • Hmm I wrote a favorable, enthusiastic comment and it didn't get posted. Whatever. thanks for a vid about the importance of the opportunists and price Jean payed for shoot from the hip paintings. Loose and wild forms with identity. Paint wins vulnerable artist dies. I hope more painters come out of college with survival skills and artistic talent rather than beaten down critical forms and masters degrees.

  • Tragic and personal context underscore the urgent form of raw rich screwed up by the exegisis, saidanddonetragic. I wish for the honest energy of his art to live on. I think the paintings left the studio shipped in crates. to anon buyers, and the money machine. Fame game killed for $ and I saw JMB invest/artifacts profiting, drag. Anyways For Jeans sake, RIP, remember all the shit and 911 thats happened since he left. Reflect on it and do Nothing less with your art.

  • Basquiat and The Velvet Underground,...heavenly. In his short life, Basquiat transcended profound, creative territory. Not only will his legacy live on..but the understanding of his relevance/importance in the evolotion of painting grows....It often takes time for the world to catch up with a trail-blazer.

  • A pure masterpiece of a comment...quite possibly the finest one I have ever stumbled across on You tube.

Aesthetically ensnaring the pure essence of the vid...I couldnt of said it better myself. :D

  • This comment, beyond a shadow of a doubt, has to be the finest comment on You Tube.

Introspective and at the same time reflective thereby ensnaring the true essence of the video.

  • Excellent video. I get sad whenever I think about the waste of talent, but he is probably smiling down on us whenever someone clicks...

  • in my opinion, he is the king of originality and being true. R.I.P. and live forever on walls, paintings.

  • Thank you!

  • DEAD... and GONE- LiVES on Someone's WAll.

  • i express gratitude to you so much for this video...i love basquiat and i think think that this artist who died prematurely deserves more attention....

  • at 1:14,i was at the Vrek show,Jean's last living show he ever did, prior to his death...he was happy that evening and he signed that poster for me JMB...i have sold it since to a friend...i will post the last 5 drawings i bought from Jean and then ncanvas he sold me in 1986.

Stillmiss you J...thanks for your Youtube contribution Brazil lady.

  • I agree.

    Love Basquiat & Velvet Underground.

  • wish i could afford a piece

  • nice tribute of jean michelle and andy...

  • I think its Ultra Violet

  • Hey, great tribute. There's a picture of Jean=Michele and Andy Warhol in the middle, and a lady on the side; she looks suspiously familiar, does anyone knows who that person is? (on 1:20).
