I think it was brilliant releasing this single in America. This was definitely different than a lot of Stock, Aitken, & Waterman's other songs as they tended to be rather lightweight and formulaic. This definitely solidified Astley's popularity in the States at the time. I wonder how Britain and Europe as a whole would have responded to this had this been released as a single there.

Rick released the pop standard When I Fall In Love in UK/Europe, which certainly had the same effect as It Would Take A Strong Strong Man had in the US. When I Fall In Love did very well for a standard reaching #2 in Britain, #5 in Australia, and #7 in Germany. It also did very well in Japan.
