  • 2- there is also a design similar to Cuniform script. those sections of tiny triangles. its possible this villa owner was not Latin but born in the middle east and became a Roman. and ended up in Britain. and he wanted reminders of his homeland in the mosaic floor work.

  • There's no doubt about an eastern influence but that doesn't mean the owner had been there: there is a lot of evidence for the influence of different artistic and religious motifs crossing the Roman world - without specific evidence for the name and origin of the owner (and in Britain we don't know anything specific about any villa owners) you just can't say.

  • 4:53........the owner of that villa had been in the far east. some of the symbols in the design(swastikas) can be seen in Lebanon on carvings, and as far east as India.
