@MountainMonsters - doesn't surprise me, D - B&M tobacconists (brick-n-mortar independents) are going the way of the dinosaur, unfortunately, and rapidly disappearing - this new tax hike on tobacco in UT won't be the last - nevertheless, I don't believe the pasttime of tobacco use will ever go away completely - it'll probably enjoy a resurgence in popularity down the road and someone will come up with the bright idea to open a store! ; ) - thanks for stopping by with the news - bfn, MM
@ManiacalMikal hey your welcome, thanks for the excellent video! I never made it down to the store before it closed but with your video I could at least see what an awesome shop it was. =-)
be a great place to check out, 23, if I was into hookahs - next time I visit SLC, perhaps I'll stop by just to give it a boo - thanks, eh! - sweet smoke, lad - MM
hey, D - yeah...my 'first' tobacconist and I was rather excited, not to mention pleased, that the owner would allow me to record the interior of his shop and provide me with a brief interview, too - there's no such establishment for miles-n-miles (make that kilometers, eh) in my area, so visiting this place was quite a treat - glad you gave the vid a boo and enjoyed the wee tour - have a good one, eh! MM
hey, Tom - seems like a looong time ago now when I recorded this, yet it was just last summer - my last stop in a tobacco shop was around Xmas in Edmonton, AB and the place was very busy - would've liked to get an interview with the owner, Chris - hope to next time I'm up that way visiting my #1 & his family - might be a grandpa again by then ; ) - thanks for checking the vid out - bye for now, MM
brilliant idea, pard, though I think you'd do better with a microbus rather than a panel. doubt if you'd be rousted by the cops as often with all the windows. good luck with the adventure. ; ) MM
Looks like a nice little shop with lots of baccy there!!! and many items to ruffle through. I been through Salt lake a few times but don't plan on going anytime in the near future but this place is a must stop if going to SL for sure. Funny thing I live literally in Tobacco country and the shops here suck. I think they are going going going almost gone, brick and mortar shops I don't think have much of a future now. great post MM. Whats up in your neck of the woods pardner?
Hey, Salam. Before I flew into SL, I checked the web for tobacconists and this place popped up. Thought it was a 'head' shop given its name. Was delighted to find otherwise. There are 2 Tinderbox shops in SL, but that's a chain & I prefer independents cause they usually have their own charm. As for my 'woods', it's pretty much same ol', same ol' which can be translated as 'just the way I like it'. ; ) bye for this time. safe travels, MM
very nice journey mate,, i truly enjoyed the tour it seems a very welcoming place with a fabulous friendly staff,,,thanks for taking the time to make this great vid
the tobacco shops here in London are on the decline there are only a few left. The store you are showing looks really great. Milverton68 has the right idea, dip, dip, snuff pipe etc.
Hey, T. Thanks for viewing & commenting. Have you & the other Tim (Milverton68) ever hooked up for an afternoon of tea & crumpets? I's just curious 'cause you're both in the same neck of the woods, relatively speaking.
Where I'm visiting now, it's way too dry to strike a match. Signs galore prohibiting smoking, fires, etc with hefty fines if you're caught doing so. So... I'm taking a break from smoking unless I'm down at the beach. Sand's too hard to light. ; ) See ya, eh! MM
Hi Mike, Tim and I are about 1 hour by train apart. We have not hooked up for tea and crumpets just yet however way me be doing so in the future. If you can't smoke perhaps you should try some snuff.
Hey, Jo. Yeah, the staff seemed to be quite friendly and helpful. I'm really limited by the amount of tobacco I can take with me back across the Canadian/US border (7oz) without having to pay customs/duties/etc, so I didn't spend too much at this tobacconist. Mainly it was just the fun of visiting the place and chatting a bit with the owner, Gary. Thanks for your input. When you gonna get back on the Tube with something? I'll be sure to give it a boo. Bye for this time, MM
weird - my replies seem to disappear sometimes. anyway, T, glad you liked. first tobacconist shop, as I mentioned. I've since visited another in Mill Valley, California and shot a bit of video of it. truly remarkable. you'll see soon, I hope. An arf for Nico. bye for now, MM
Hey I heard this place was going to shut down cause of the new tobacco tax in Utah as of July 1 2010
