Be careful with these videos. Crew members lose their jobs due to people posting cab videos. Don't give away the locomotive number or the face of the engineer/crew. Railroads DO watch YouTube for these videos, and WILL fire engineers/crewmembers for allowing people inside the locomotive cab.
hey you guys listen: Ths is a canadain pacific railway employee. He never gets foreign power. Sorry to break it to you but he can only get videos of the cabs of SOO and CP power.
I take it your talking about the automatic brake handle? haha, no, it's not Braille. Just a crappy phone cam that can't pick up detail. I'm hoping to fix this soon and re shoot some of these videos.
Been in two of em, I love how quiet they are! and GE's are better haulers, EMD's are sprinters. The EMD they had in one of the trains with an ES44AC was broken down because of a bad water lever meter, the loco wouldn't load. So the ES44AC ended up pulling all 50-60 loads and empties up the grades just north of where I live.
They do have some power to them. I got to run a BNSF SD70MAC for the first time the other day. First off, the 70MAC I think is much more quieter. Second I see what you mean by being a sprinter. Thought I was going to get a draw bar in the first notch. One thing I always took for granted was the shorter wheel base on a GE. Hitting a cross over in that 70MAC I thought I put her on the ground.
are you like a train driver to do this stuff man i cant even get that clost nor in the cab wish i could do that tell me how you got in one nice video!!
These are defined as being more ergonomically correct for better comfort and visibility. It's really not that hard to get used to it because it's based off the standard control stand that's been around forever. Just kind of weird being higher in the air sitting sideways.
Better for the Hoghead, but not good when you are trying to stuff three crew in the cab. The control stand takes up alot of room and makes the cab smaller.
You are wrong about that and the main reason is 99% of EMD's use DC traction motors - the AC traction motor in the GE's are far superior both in terms of performance and longevity. GE is a powerful and capable locomotive - the early AC versions suffered from poor quality with cab fixtures and fasteners but they have learned with time and now produce a great locomotive. I'll take it over an EMD anytime although it is nice to run a brace of SD40-2's once in while.
im just tellin ya what i see...i work on locomotives for a living for the bn..and we have had to replace well over a hundred of the evolution series 12 cylinder motors..and it was the same for the dash 9....the old emds just keep going..while the ge's love to sit in the shop....i see it with my own eyes
Why did the diesal motors on BN GE's have to be replaced? We have had GE units breakdown but it doesn't seem to be anything other than the usual human error and routine maintenence issues.
they had poor metal quality issues with pistons..they had cranks snapping...you name it failed on the evolution 12 cylinder..turbos shelling out...theyre power assemblies leaked right out of the factory
'are you aware that we dont even change the crankcase oil in the emd's?..did you know a ge gets an oil change every 90 days?..
mechanically an emd is more solidly built than a ge...and i can explain why
wrong i work for csx in massena new york on the massena selkirk branch and the best engine ive road in was the sd70ace its quiet and really easy to handle but my favorite ge to run is the ac6000
Nice! I've only been inside a AC4400 when CP first started receiving shipments of them back in the 90's, and those units had the controls on a desk, rather than a stand.
I actually prefer that style over the desktop

And I thought the control panel for a steam locomotive was complicated.

At least its not a desk type control stand....
