  • WOW! Ur xbox is very faster huh? This is widescreen or 16:9 than is widescreen?

  • In this video you can clearly see its stretched to far there may be a option to correct but this guy didnt use it

  • krizalid850 this is the old model. The new one is 400hz LED Backlight and 3D

  • e uma pena que a philips desistiu de fabricar televisão

  • Wrong, wrong, wrong.

The conversion from 16:9 to 21:9 is almost perfect. You can play your games with hardly any difference in the image. Even watch TV perfectly.

I agree that 3D is the next step, but the new model is 3D. The Ambilight Cinema 21:9 Platinum is just impressive. 58" and 3D. I have been playing to GT 5 with a PS3 and it's something unbelievable.

  • @bethenco01 does it look clearer than phillips 100hz led?

  • Useless. No content. Stretches picture to fill screen so even though the black bars are gone, u'r still not getting the original image, only processed. Not all fims are 2.39:1 originals anyway.

For gaming it's even worse as who knows when there'll be 21:9 games, so all you get is ye olde 'stretchy view' or pillar boxed. 3D is the next step for gaming anyway, not this

Also, the 56" is really a 42" in height thus its only wider, not 'bigger' per se. You'd need 60"+ vertically for real immersion

  • No, this is The 56" version from 2009

  • 58 INC/???

  • @J1Smokes, no it does not have bars on 16:9. The demo you see it's 16:9

  • Nice tv!! Bad demo though ... Does that even have bars on a 16:9 tv?

  • Sound is fucked up -.-

  • show, so faltou ser plasma, seria perfeita!

  • What's with all the light leak in the background?

  • @PaulGrantDesigns lol fail it's called ambient light, It's supposed to be like that.

  • @1ssi7h The only "fail" is the light leak, you moron. I don't want a TV that glows from it's backside.

  • @PaulGrantDesigns You can turn off the light leak aka Ambilight, the menu is simple to access and setup. Well I watched a demo vid, and that told me what I've now told you.

  • Sucks you in.

    Because it's from Philips.

  • I love the idea but wouldn't be able not to think that I wasted 4 grand on something that makes the picture look just pants. Perhaps next gen consoles will be able to do 21:9 natively until then it's same as stretching 4:3 to 16:9, i.e. crap

  • awesome amount of space for dual screen co-op, but using top and bottom for 1 & 2 would look awful funny I'd imagine. I think there are a few games that don't allow for side-by-side, which is annoying enough for smaller TVs.

Anyone tried hooking this up to a pc?

  • The way this will work at first, when you hook up your 360 or PS3 to it, you will need to set the tv itself to 16:9 mode, and there will be some black bars on the sides, but you will still be getting your full 16:9 gaming experience as it was designed. Then next gen consoles coming in 2011 or 2012 will support these new super-wide tvs, and will have options to switch between 21:9, 16:9, or even 4:3.

  • No x-box or ps3 dont play at the ratio, it would be something needed to be done on a base game design level, BUT dosnt mean they wont in future? I wouldn't bother with rescaling though as it may be good but not really a pro option after you forked out for this TV

  • I love my tv. exactly the same as this.

  • Wow.. love it!

  • lol! sure SURE! this TV is real nice and sure u can flash and shine whit this tv. It gives u some braging rights BUT it IS ridiculous expensive... and just wait like 1 year or 1.5 year and u can get this tv for HALF the price.. and it will like become standard for all tv to have 21:9 its not gona be a big deal in like 2 years..

  • lucky xD

  • Rich enough to buy a 4 grand tv, but too dumb to hit your aspect ratio button. Typical.

  • Well on my Philips screen (5000-series) i can make a choice to make the picture for the console to fit nicely making it not stretch etc, and it will update to fit the screen when the screen stretches. I think it uses something like that here to because it dont look stretched

  • veryyyy nice

  • Tv 21:9 xbox16:9 the picture is stretched looks like 4:3picture in 16:9 mode

  • @natje360

The tv stretches the image to a bigger size i mean like a bigger 16:9 mode.

  • @natje360 WRONG.

  • best TV ever = Philips 21:9

  • This TV is excellent for blu-ray movies (they use 21:9), but I wouldn't want to play games on it as games use 16:9.

So this TV is more for movie freaks rather than game freaks. And if you're both a movie and game freak, well, you may have a tough choice to make :P

  • some dvd movies also play with 21:9

  • poor, rich basterd

  • Philips number one on lcd tv

  • Another great tv from philips

  • Does anybody know, if the xbox 360 is compatible to 21:9 regarding games? I'm asking because i know, that the xbox is not fully compatible with full hd - and the philips display has a even higher resolution @ 2560 x 1080p.

    thx for your answers

  • It is not natively compatible, but the 21:9 has a great rescaling from 16:9 to 21:9.

This is one of the great things of this TV you can use it for 21:9 movies in native resolution, or 16:9 with rescaling process.

  • thx!

  • @menecken08 Games won't be natively compatible with 21:9 even with Xbox 720 - lol! Hardly any of them are even full HD now!

3D's the next frontier for gaming. Wider screens are pointless in games as it would serve to distract from the relevant action to much. Unless split screen local co-op gaming becomes standard again, 21:9 is pointless for games atm. Immersion will be better enhanced through 3D once developers start really concentrating on the technology.

  • I've always loved 2.35:1 and have always shot my vids in that format, and now theres a TV with that as a native aspect ratio. That's just awesome!!

  • i know i will sound like a dumbass but i would easily pick a 16:9 tv before this 21:9. I think its overrated.

  • 16:9 is fine, with computer I even use 16:10. But there's a lot of movies with about 21:9 aspect ratio and bigger picture is just, bigger. You'd need a 16:9 tv size of at least 80in to get a same sized picture with that 21:9 aspect ratio. So if you watch a lot of movies and especially with that aspect ratio this Philips is a bargain.

  • how can you say an ASPECT RATIO is over rated...?

would you watch your movies on a 4:3 tv (are the old ones 4:3. i dont even remember).

either way, its a tv with an aspect ratio of the movies, cuz this is the ratio they use at the theateres, like it or not, its probably going to be the new standard like widescreen 16:9 is the standard today.

  • no, i watch movies on my tv, and its 16:9 :S

  • no i know that, i meant the older tvs, the squary ones, i THINK those old ones are 4:3, our current widescreen is 16:9, and this one is 21:9.

  • I Got to have this television! Thats just awesome man

  • I know eh, I think it's only out in Europe though, and it's got a pretty hefty price tag. I checked the philips site a few months ago, I think it was around 8000 pounds or euros or something.

The ambient light in the background also adds a very nice touch!

  • AWESOME! What a TV!!!

  • fkin lucky baztard !

  • omg i could have an orgasm just immaging how it could be if i had one of theese

  • Comment removed

  • WHOA! I need to get myself a job urgently :P

  • i kent stop lolin @ th@ jet turbine hidden sumwhere in dark xDDDDDDDDDD

  • It looked stretched but i;m jelous haha if i had the money i would buy it :D

  • omg

  • Great TV perfect for Movies but although it looks nice i am not sure about this format on consoles.

  • Hi,

I tryed it with Xbox and PS3 and it looks perfect. you can hardly tell if it is originally in 21:9 or 16:9

  • Looks like it's doing a great job of tricking 16:9 signal into 2.35:1. Nothing looks like a steamroller went over it.

    Still 4 grand unfortunately.

  • Any idea about the price?

    thanx

  • 3.999€ in selected markets

  • Thanx for the info!

let,s hope it will go down soon! :$

  • It's stretched on the X axis.

  • This TV is great, but not for games.

  • Why should'nt it be for games? The graphic looks great!

  • cool game on a cool tv!

  • whats the light in back of the tv for?

  • The light it's called ambilight and it's meant for relaxing your eyes and immerse yourself into the content of the TV.

  • Is this really the way we want to go? Wider? Who the fuck cares if it's a bit wider?! Oh great, now I can have eyes in my ears wile playing an FPS but still can't see 45 degrees up or down without moving my head. -.-

  • Just an FYI, your peripheral vision is greater to your left and right and far worse up and down. Increasing the vertical size is fairly redundant.

  • i don't see how this is better for video games

    i like vertical room

  • in fact this tv was created to reproduce the CINEMA experience at home, not to play games...

  • must get tv NOW

  • o my fucking got :D i have x360 and crt tv, this tv is my dream :D

  • mine two, only I would use it with my PC.
