im starting shotokan my teacher will be mo chebouli (5th dan) his teacher is masao kawasoe (8th dan) i was going to pick goju ryu but i deiced upon shotokan
@jetleeming yes he is a true master of karate you only have to look at him to see that if you are still not convinced try a session with him then you will be convinced and maybee have a little more respect for a true martial artist and stop making silly comments with very bad grammar .
@jetleeming I've had the privilege of training with Sensei Kawazoe and had you experienced his refined manner, and at the same time incredible power and speed, you wouldn't have made such a remark. By the way, he's - as his name indicates - Japanese, not Chinese.
i am lucky enough to train with kaawasoe every three months :D he comes over to grade me, passed all his gradings since white, until today when i passed my grading so i am now purple and white belt.
He is head of the Uktkf (united kingdom traditional karate federation) any Shotokan dojo in the uk uses him for black belt training and grading. Search the internet for your local Shotokan club check their site. My bet is if they are serious about traditional Shotokan they use sensai kowasoe. Good luck with your training
little and thin, but big heart and best techniques and zanshin I've met. I liked to practice with Sensei and I do hope that rumours are true about his comming back to JKA???
i hope you are at the least osaka sensei because to crictise this mans kicking is to go against every technision who has lived. he is also using that kick just to inspire and you are talking rubbish if you say this man is sports karate. HE IS BUDO INCARNATE. this mans life is dedicated to perfection. i train with sensei and you haven't if you are saying what you say he is the pinicle of karate. Nakayama has even said he "has come to a level few will ever achieve" OSS SENSEI GR8 DISPLAY!
I have trained with Kawasoe, son. I have also trained longer than Kawasoe, son. He is a great technician, there is no question. As for Budo, it was not in the cards when karate was developed by the Okinawans, not the Japanese. Kawasoe is Japanese and does not do original Karate. He is frome the JKA, I am a life member and I know exactly what I am talking about. I mean no disrespect, but you are 17 years old and simply have not been around long enough to know these things. See next post:
2nd post: The JKA focuses on sports karate and tournaments are their living breath. Karate is not a sport, it is a martial art. As a result of a sporting focus, many true karate techniques and tactics have fallen out of the JKA syllabus. That is the very reason Funakoshi distained tournaments. They didn't listen. BTW, my last teacher was Nishiyama, one of Funakoshi's students. You don't have to be a name to be knowledgable but facing reality requires maturity and fortitude. next post:
3rd post: The reality is that Funakoshi taught Okinawan karate, the JKA rejected it in favor of the karate of Yoshitaka Funakoshi. The old man warned them, they did not listen and now the holder of karate's highest standards (by their own claim) is the holder of the largest sports karate style on the planet. That is why I left them and why I study original methods. I have learned far, far more about self defense since I broke away. Don't be loyalty bound, study history and learn. It's up to you.
i'm certainly not loyalty bound, i said i train with kawasoe sensei who isn't jka btw! and yes i know this history but you're quite wrong as funakoshi sensei introduce tournaments because of demands by students. i also understand that the jka was founded by nakayama sensei not funakoshi senei's son. i hope you have found your perfection of technique as we all strive for that but i don't believe you're right to criticise this man as he has devoted his life to karate and it's disrespectful of you
I am not going to argue with a kid over things I know to be true. In time maybe you will change your perspective, maybe not. In any event, you will never (that would be never, under no conditions, not at all, in no case) understand karate until you realize it was and is a martial art devised by Okinawans, not Japanese. The JKA has changed that and the change has strayed away from the original. Kawasoe was trained by the JKA no matter what or who he is now. Ijo!!
@IEKUKATAKA i won our nationals kumite and kata in 1981 two weeks later i was invited to train with the guys i defeated at the tournment boy did they traditionaly distroy me i was shattred at how easly they messed me up even lower grades then my self i changed my ways back then . today i instruct champions who when we do bag work can not punch and want to cover there fist with goves that is tournament karate there is a place but its not the real thing. ous john
0oh and i believe karate is about more than self defence so to just learn that holds little appeal for me. thanks for the tip though lol. oh and what organisation are you as i'd love to look into it. thanks
Well since i was 6 years of age, i started to begin karate. The style was Shotokan and i was instructed by Carol and Alan Parish, currently 6th dans now. Alan Parish was instructed by Sensai Kawasoe.
I stopped karate at a 2nd Dan black belt. I was doing it for a little over 8 years, i was a senior instructor. I left 2 decembers ago, i'm mad because i don't know why i stopped, i had it all going for me, i won plenty of competitions at blackpool and windsor
flashy and showy yes, useless... I wouldn't agree completely with you. While they are risky techniques, difficult to set up and execute, they can be used (and are being used) when you know what you're looking for in terms of strategic positioning. I scored quait a few times with Ushiro Mawashi at competitions, and I saw many guys score very effectively with Ushiro Mawashi as well. I've never been in a street fight in my life, so I'm not talking about those situations. Best regards.
A fundamentally useless kick in terms of combative karate. Who in their right mind would expose their back, put themselves in such a precarious position and try to kick such a small and mobile target as the head when the lower body, legs and mid-thorax are there, accessible and the foundation can be kept stable and mobile? It is showmanship, a bad example yet typical of where the JKA has gone with a karate Funakoshi did not like but his son, Yoshitaka, did.
