I'm getting my ZuneHD today or tomorrow. I need to do more research on this subject, but as far as apps are concerned, there may be a few more apps coming out with Zune heading over exclusively to Windows Mobile OS.
The Zune music player is being phased out... and you'll need the phone to play future Zune music. Microsoft ("says") they will continue to support all devices with Zune, though.

@Broth3rz Depends on your hearing...for me it's loud enough (with good headphones), but I can turn it up all the way without it hurting my ears too much (though I normally listen around 20 and it goes up to 30), so I'd agree it's not insanely loud...but that's not a bad thing. :-)
Ok thanks one last question the zune hd is now only like 169$ and I'm looking for an good mp3 player that is some what inexpensive do you think the zune hd is worth it?
@acscoots22 no it isnt an open folder mp3 like a cheap one you would buy it has its own music marketplace called zune marketplace haha...its free and WWWWAAAYYY better than itunes. alot quicker and easier to use. hope this helps.

@noneofyourbuisness7 You can stream OR download onto your PC with the Zune Pass. You don't have to have a WiFi connection to listen to music you've downloaded. You can put MP3, AAC, or WMA files from any source onto the Zune via the desktop software as long as there's no DRM involved (iTunes FairPlay, etc.).
I am getting a 16gb on Thursday so I am rather stoked about it. It came down to a decision either an IPod iTouch or the Zune HD . I have heard about the Zune HD being an awesome device I hope that they come out with more stuff for the Zune soon too.
@ltoeppe1965 Yeah, they've added a few apps...like four. I think they're up to 15 apps in total? Kind of lame, but they're doing all the apps themselves, rather than opening it up to developers, so it's not a surprise. The Zune HD has no eBook reader app yet.
@ltoeppe1965 check out openzdk, an alternativ sdk for zune...there's waaayyy more stuff than the zune stuff so that can be cool...unfortunatly nothing compared to the appstore.Bear in mind the fact that the zune has a "proper" mobile graphics chipset which has loads of capabilities...still, food for thought ;)
im switching from my ipod to the zune because i hate itunes, and when i tried to put my itunes folder onto the zune collection, it only put the songs on... i have some tv shows that i wanted to put on my zune but i cant put them on. why is this?
@d3sertst0rm Unfortunately, the TV shows you purchased have digital rights management protection on them (DRM) - there's no way to get them onto the Zune.
@lDeadLoss Yes, you can connect directly to WiFi networks without needing to connect to your PC first. You won't be able to WiFi sync from the Zune back to your PC though until you create a partnership with the PC and Zune.

@cj2009cj No, there aren't many apps. There's about 15...they're all free, but other than games and a Twitter and Facebook client, there's nothing good. If you want apps, get an iPod Touch...but wait about a month or so - the new iPod Touch models will be announced in September I think.

@MrToad321 There will not be a new Zune HD released this year AFAIK - all the Zune focus is on Windows Phone 7 devices. Next year, I expect to see a new Zune HD that will be like a Windows Phone 7 device without a phone; bigger screen, 800 x 480 resolution, fast CPU, lots of RAM, etc.
I have a question. The Zune HD is not officially released in Canada and Jason I know you live in Canada. So in that case how come in the Zune HD "marketplace" shows up?? Does it really matter what country you live in? And by the way, why did Microsoft send it you because they must know you live in Canada, which is quite ironic because the Zune HD isn't even released here and they canceled the "marketplace" in the zune 8/16/80/120 and on the software itself. Hopefully I am getting the Zune HD 16 GB, I have an iPod touch 8GB and i have had it for two and half years; it's as slow as can be, scratched a lot, too many songs and not enough space, and i just want something new to explore. The Zune looks better too me and would feel better to me, the ONLY thing i absolutely hate is the zune pass. My apps don't load fast at all. My music like stutters, or skips when i change the song.

@cj2009cj No, the iPod Touch does not have Flash. Have you missed all the fighting between Adobe and Apple over the past year? There is no iPad/iPod/iPhone that has Flash. Period. The Touch has a YouTube app that plays back MPEG4 videos; maybe that's what you're thinking of?

I think Apple Ipod is better, It just feels like that.. And we just have to be abit patient to see the fourth G of apple ipod. And you know, Zune has never been as successful as Ipod... Try multi touch on a picture get both fingers on the screen close together and move them both to the opposite sides of the screen and it should zoom in. have them on the opposite sides of the screen and bring close together and they should zoom out.

Hmm i got the zune hd a week ago and so far all the apps are free but there are only like 11 apps the only fun one is solitaire to me. also it does not have youtube or flash installed which i figured should have been a main priority. it also can't flip while im browsing my music (not a necessity but i would of liked it.) i might return this for a ipod touch but im gonna go look at some ipod touch reviews first.
O and u didnt mention to the viewers that the zune hd is Multi Touch.
@EliteTechMonkey The HTML rendering engine is the software that reads the HTML code on the page, displays the images, etc. Some are fast, some are slow.
@achrine If the video is in a format that the Zune can view - MPEG4, WMV, XVID, DIVX, then yes - but otherwise, no...there's no Flash plug-in for the browser for instance.
The only downside to this that I see is that the internet is slow and limited. I do have one question. Does the accelerometer work on videos, like that Xmen video you had? Just wondering and thank you for this walk-through.
@natedawg3999 It has WiFi and a Web browser - so I'm not sure how you'd think it was slow and limited compared to other devices of this type. Maybe you're referring to the lack of Flash support? That does limit some scenarios, yes. No, you can't watch videos in portrait mode - it's all landscape. The only way to do a portrait video would be to encode the video rotated.
Recently there has been a firmware update for the HD and I saw some of the other videos on the web showing the 'new' zune features, and I saw that everything was FAST. Is this true?
The last firmware update was out a couple of months ago. It changed a few things, but not really in the way of new features - it enhanced the keyboard and a few other things. The Zune HD has always been FAST.

I think there are about 15 apps now - the Zune team has released a Twitter app and Facebook app recently. All they need now is a YouTube app and they'll make most people happy. ;-)
I don't know if anyone can fully catch iTunes - they have such a dominating lead over everyone else. The Zune marketplace seems to have a good number of movies, music, and TV shows though - I can't buy movies/TV shows in Canada, so I don't use the service, but they have quite a selection from what I can see. As for music, the Zune Marketplace has pretty much everything I've ever looked for, but in terms of sheer numbers, iTunes has more.
At Zuneboards(dot)com, people are making a few unofficial apps for the Zune HD and Zune, you should check them out. I think the Zune can play all XNA games, but I'm not sure.
I've been using Zunes almost exclusively for audio for the past couple of years, so other than saying that I think my Zune HD sounds better than my iPod Touch, I can't comment on audio quality...it's highly subjective anyway.
I've never seen an iPhone/iPod Touch app that takes 10+ seconds to launch and has a full-screen ad at the beginning. All of the ad-supported apps I've seen have small ads integrated into the application. I much prefer the Apple approach.
I don't like the theme on the Zune, the zune itself looks amazing, and clearly the OLED screen is superior in comparison to the ipod touch.. But yeah not too fond of the theme itself and the browsing is very slow in comparison to my ipod touch.. I would def consider a Zune when it matures more...
@Yamcha67 erm, i was connected to my wireless internet in the same place at my house, my zune vs my cousins ipod touch. WE both went on the internet browser at the same time, loaded google, mine finished first and his second, next we tried out yahoo, again mine first and his second.
zune has good quality ipod touch has everything else. but zunes on its way because this is only first gen. im going to stick with my ipod and wait to see how the new zune hd versions turn out :)
I have two questions, both regarding apps. Obviously, Zune HD has many less apps that the iPod Touch, but exactly how much less is that? I looked at another youtube video and it looked like there were only 9. Second question, I'm assuming Microsoft will add more apps to the Zune Marketplace? The Zune HD has exactly 15 apps at the time I'm writing this. Will they catch up to the 100,000+ apps that Apple has? Doubtful. Will they get a healthy number of apps once they open it up to outside developers? Yes, I think so.
Also, my guess is that a lot of these apps will actually serve a purpose as opposed to just sort of. .existing. By the way, I need advice. I'm thinking about getting a 32 gb for my birthday, but I was wondering whether or not I should wait until they release the 64 gb. The same thing happened when I bought the Zune 30. Soon after I purchased it, they began to sell the Zune 80 for $250.
Buy the Zune HD, The only thing right now that is not very good is the app store, and that will grow with facbook and twitter apps coming this year. Also it just came out, give Microsoft some time to make the wifi faster and add flash and this device will blow the ipod touch out of the water. And besides at this point the Itouch is just an app device . . .

Really, the only good app is a custom one that lets you emulate gameboy/gameboy color games. Audiosurf is pretty good too though.

I think Apple Ipod is better, It just feels like that.. And we just have to be abit patient to see the fourth G of apple ipod. And you know, Zune has never been as successful as Ipod... And apps are a big deal on apple to be honest.. I think I'll wait for the apple 4G ipod touch, and buy that one...

Try multi touch on a picture get both fingers on the screen close together and move them both to the opposite sides of the screen and it should zoom in. have them on the opposite sides of the screen and bring close together and they should zoom out.
Also Thoughts Media i would like to hear some of your feedback on my other comment i posted. Maybe u found some key points to the zune hd that makes it worth keeping over the iphone

Hmm i got the zune hd a week ago and so far all the apps are free but there are only like 11 apps the only fun one is solitaire to me. also it does not have youtube or flash installed which i figured should have been a main priority. it also can't flip while im browsing my music (not a necessity but i would of liked it.) i might return this for a ipod touch but im gonna go look at some ipod touch reviews first.
O and u didnt mention to the viewers that the zune hd is Multi Touch.

@achrine If the video is in a format that the Zune can view - MPEG4, WMV, XVID, DIVX, then yes - but otherwise, no...there's no Flash plug-in for the browser for instance.

let 10 be as good as the itouch and anything higher be better and anything lower be not as good

The only downside to this that I see is that the internet is slow and limited. I do have one question. Does the accelerometer work on videos, like that Xmen video you had? Just wondering and thank you for this walk-through.

@natedawg3999 It has WiFi and a Web browser - so I'm not sure how you'd think it was slow and limited compared to other devices of this type. Maybe you're referring to the lack of Flash support? That does limit some scenarios, yes. No, you can't watch videos in portrait mode - it's all landscape. The only way to do a portrait video would be to encode the video rotated.

Recently there has been a firmware update for the HD and I saw some of the other videos on the web showing the 'new' zune features, and I saw that everything was FAST. Is this true?

The last firmware update was out a couple of months ago. It changed a few things, but not really in the way of new features - it enhanced the keyboard and a few other things. The Zune HD has always been FAST.

I think there are about 15 apps now - the Zune team has released a Twitter app and Facebook app recently. All they need now is a YouTube app and they'll make most people happy. ;-)

I don't know if anyone can fully catch iTunes - they have such a dominating lead over everyone else. The Zune marketplace seems to have a good number of movies, music, and TV shows though - I can't buy movies/TV shows in Canada, so I don't use the service, but they have quite a selection from what I can see. As for music, the Zune Marketplace has pretty much everything I've ever looked for, but in terms of sheer numbers, iTunes has more.

At Zuneboards(dot)com, people are making a few unofficial apps for the Zune HD and Zune, you should check them out. I think the Zune can play all XNA games, but I'm not sure.

I've been using Zunes almost exclusively for audio for the past couple of years, so other than saying that I think my Zune HD sounds better than my iPod Touch, I can't comment on audio quality...it's highly subjective anyway.

I've never seen an iPhone/iPod Touch app that takes 10+ seconds to launch and has a full-screen ad at the beginning. All of the ad-supported apps I've seen have small ads integrated into the application. I much prefer the Apple approach.

I don't like the theme on the Zune, the zune itself looks amazing, and clearly the OLED screen is superior in comparison to the ipod touch.. But yeah not too fond of the theme itself and the browsing is very slow in comparison to my ipod touch.. I would def consider a Zune when it matures more...

@Yamcha67 erm, i was connected to my wireless internet in the same place at my house, my zune vs my cousins ipod touch. WE both went on the internet browser at the same time, loaded google, mine finished first and his second, next we tried out yahoo, again mine first and his second.

zune has good quality ipod touch has everything else. but zunes on its way because this is only first gen. im going to stick with my ipod and wait to see how the new zune hd versions turn out :)

I have two questions, both regarding apps. Obviously, Zune HD has many less apps that the iPod Touch, but exactly how much less is that? I looked at another youtube video and it looked like there were only 9. Second question, I'm assuming Microsoft will add more apps to the Zune Marketplace? I really want a product similar to the iTouch in regards to game and fun apps, so I don't want to spend my money on a product that may not EVER catch up. Thanks!

The Zune HD has exactly 15 apps at the time I'm writing this. Will they catch up to the 100,000+ apps that Apple has? Doubtful. Will they get a healthy number of apps once they open it up to outside developers? Yes, I think so.

I'm thinking about getting a 32 gb for my birthday, but I was wondering whether or not I should wait until they release the 64 gb. The same thing happened when I bought the Zune 30. Soon after I purchased it, they began to sell the Zune 80 for $250.

Buy the Zune HD, The only thing right now that is not very good is the app store, and that will grow with facbook and twitter apps coming this year. Also it just came out, give Microsoft some time to make the wifi faster and add flash and this device will blow the ipod touch out of the water. And besides at this point the Itouch is just an app device . . .
