Nice, I haven't seen this. He does a pretty amazing job of en-capturing Thompson's mannerisms and speech! I agree, I wouldn't compare him to Johnny Depp. It would be easy because they played the same character, but they're both excellent.

This is the interpretation that formed my visual image of Thompson, whether it was "true" or not so much, and I've always loved it and found it endearing. Murray is brilliant, and in retrospect I think he captured the hapless side of Thompson, which Depp really didn't touch on. I don't think Hunter was ever in "control" of the situation, but that in his prose he made it appear so. Murray's Hunter is indeed more human, and funny, and probably closer in spirit to the real Thompson.

I'd say this. Murray does capture the more natural, real side of Hunter S. Thompson. However, Depp does a fantastic job paying attention to the subtle nuances of the guy.
