did you add marine salt and chemicals in before adding the live rock and sand? or did you just put in water and add the live rock? im preparing a 29 gallon tank and i dont know which order to add everything..
how long did it take your tank to clear up and did you turn on all your circulation, or turn it off to let it settle? i just put water and sand in my 55 today and visibility is about 1.5 inches. i have only 1 powerhead going but my filter is off...please help
@BowHunt1229 Hey man, it may take a couple of days. The best thing to do is to keep your circulation on. If you turn it off and it settles, it will cloud up again when you turn your circulation back on. I think mine took almost a solid week. Just be patient, it will eventually clear up. Even if it takes a week, just hang in there :)
@tickleyourbrain thanks i have all my filters and everything going, i just talked to the guy at my LFS and he said it may take up to 72 hours to settle but he also said to keep everything going.thanks for the help. nice video series, one of my favorites. =)
@tickleyourbrain hey yes i have the same question as that other guy because my 125 was started yeterday and it is so cloudy its like a 1 inch visibility. i have all the powerheads running and the wet dry filter running but should i turn on the protein skimmer too?
@rosscopossco You can generally expect to pay about $8-$10 per pound for good, healthy liverock. Your mileage may vary, but when it comes to the health of your system, it's best to be very very patient and to not always cut corners. (Some things are worth paying for) WHat kind of setup are you starting?
If you don't like the rock setting directly on the glass try putting a layer of eggcrate down first. Then set the rock on top of the eggcrate, followed by the sand.
The eggcrate will protect the glass from scratches and will also protect the glass from pressure points. It also prevents any digging fish from burrowing under the rock and gets rid of the ugly bare spots when the little buggers clear away all the sand.
My tank cleaned all equiptment, bought 20 pounds of Carib sea Bimini pink live sand and filled it with new saltwater using sea chem reef salt. The sand is the same as Fiji pink, but it has little crushed pink shell peices randomly jn the substrate. And I did move my power strip thanks nice tip
Collin, I am still recording this in 1080p high definition. I just uploaded this, so it's possible that youtube hasn't finished optimizing the video yet. The timelapse was recorded with my laptop camera, so that part was lower quality. Check back later to see if the HD version is available :). If it sucks, I'll re-upload it.
nice vid

Like your setup man can't wait to see a video with some fish in the tank. Is that sump 3 or 4 foot long?
RE5707 2 years ago
RE5707,
Thanks for kind words. The sump is 48 inches long, 16 inches wide, and I believe it's either 16 or 18 inches tall.

Thank you sir! I am still going to add 20-30 pounds of live rock and rearrange a couple pieces, but overall, I don't think it turned out too bad..
tickleyourbrain 2 years ago
yes except for that right corner but thats what im guessing you are putting that 20 more pounds in?
