@lauralalokaful I wash mine maybe 2x per week, using dr bronner's soap. Then about once a month I do a "deep cleanse" with baking soda and vinegar. This goes down to the scalp and cleans it well. And yeah, when you shampoo with the soap you just lather up and wash like normal hair.

@XADEES just try tying it up it a little bun, or like put it in a little plastic bag when you shower.. just cause your not going to want to wash it at often as you will your normal hair .

@brittneehibbitts The hair underneath in the back of your head is the easiest to dread. It stays round without much work and dreads quickly. The biggest drawback to having one dread is that it often pulls other hairs into it so you'll have to be vigilant about seperating it. Brushing around it can be quite bothersome as well.

@2005Goober Yes dreads make your head HELLA itchy, not because its dirty lol. Its becsuse you go from washing your hair everyday with rich shampoos and conditioners, when you get dreads you dont use those anymore and you use shampoos that strip your hair and make it hell dry, so your scalp it kinds like WTF and its not getting any conditioning agent except for the oil your head secrets which isnt much for most ppl and that gets striped away with your anti residue shampoo - just dry scalp

@HAILPeterTagtgren It dpends on the method you use to get dreadlocks really. You dye your hair when you have dreads as long as you soak the dye into them, that should be fine.
NONE of what you describe is remotely necessary, you'd have WAY more awesome locks by the time of this video if you'd just not touched your hair for those two years.....
I've been growing my hair for around 2 years now. I just started mine about three weeks ago, super excited about the journey. I did the backcomb/palmroll method with a little bit of knotty boy wax (I use a bit of their tightening gel too, just because it smells delicious). my roots don't seem to be problem (yet, knock on wood) but my ends tend to fall apart. whats the best way to deal with that?
i just started dreading my own hair and so far i have 5 done and i've been backcombing and then using a crochet needle to tighten them but it seems like they are just extremely messy and fray out with loose hairs everywhere no matter how much i tighten it. i think i just need a smaller hook? what do you think?

i love your accent as well as your dreads. Ive recently considered getting them, and i AM thinking HARD about how it will effect my life. anddd, yeah. uhm, my grandma (lol yes my grandma) has dreadlocks and ive randomly thought about getting them many times throughout my youth. uhm i MIGHT wait you know, a couple years. maybe til i'm out of school. haha :) but, hell i love them. i think they look fantastic :D thankyou for all the videos! i will deff use them when i begin my dread journey.

Thanx for the great vid... I had dreds before but I cut them out cuz I used wax to get them locked up and it was a year later and there was a lot of wax still in them. My hair is quite curly and I just tried that twist and rip method and I have my 1st dred! :) My hair is only a few inches long tho so I think I might wait a few more months before I go 100% on them. ejj, im thinking about getting dreadlocks, but im wondering..
how much will be hair decrease ? cuz when i want dreadlocks i want to be long .. like over my shoulders (or more)
also, not sure about this, but what if i want to have my hairs dyed can i do this when i have dreads? or is it a good idea to do it before getting dreads?

@HAILPeterTagtgren It dpends on the method you use to get dreadlocks really. You dye your hair when you have dreads as long as you soak the dye into them, that should be fine.

I've been growing my hair for around 2 years now. I'm aware about the long term such as how my employer would review my appearance but i'm sure being the type of guy I am that I wont progress into a career which my hair style would cause heads to turn. thanks for posting these vids, you're really cool :) first off, your locks are so beautiful! how long had you had them when you filmed this? I just started mine about three weeks ago, super excited about the journey. I did the backcomb/palmroll method with a little bit of knotty boy wax (I use a bit of their tightening gel too, just because it smells delicious). my roots don't seem to be problem (yet, knock on wood) but my ends tend to fall apart. whats the best way to deal with that?

Great video, and i love your dreads!
i just started dreading my own hair and so far i have 5 done and i've been backcombing and then using a crochet needle to tighten them but it seems like they are just extremely messy and fray out with loose hairs everywhere no matter how much i tighten it. i think i just need a smaller hook? what do you think?
