And why a full scale millitary initiative to remove Saddam if majority of people wanted saddam gone? but personally for me the biggest question is the WMD lie. Bush broke from U.S. policy with a "preemptive" strike against Iraq. U need to go back to WWII to find that information. Bush and the media painted a picture of a "mushroom cloud" coming from Iraq. No such weapons existed in Iraq. Finally Iraq had nothing to do with 9/11. The people credited with 9/11 were from Saudi Arabia. Bush attacked the wrong country.

Then tried to scare the world that bin laden might get access to those 'wmd' that never existed. point 4: why does the inside story reporter, i didn't catch her name, keep interrupting Mahmud Othman? He's a damn Iraqi MP, meaning "Military Police", which means he's been on the frontlines. Mr. Hamzawy, Mr. Mclanahan and that damn hosting reporter (don't know her name, don't care either)have absolutely no grounds to speak from and should listen to what Mr. Othman has to say.

point 1: The only thing the surge accomplished was the waste of well over 1,000 american lives & even more iraqi's.

point 2: Mr. Mclanahan has no ground to speak upon about the overall concensus regarding how Iraqi's view the occupation (which they obviously disagree with, as would we if our country were invaded).

point 3:Why do the reporters and the mainstream media as a whole, keep lowballing the casualty numbers, cost of the war, ect?

I agree with you on points 2 and 3 but I must say that point 1 will only be a waste if you, me and everybody else on this planet allow their lives to be a waste. You ended your comment with "An eye for an eye will make the whole world blind" which is a great saying from a great man but walk in the man's footsteps and you can prevent the next incident of an eye for an eye. We all are indeed our brothers keeper.

True, but having served myself in the Marines & on the frontlines, I know how many lives have been maybe not 'wasted' (poor word choice), but lost in vain in regards to the missions and the U.S. 'cause' for this war.

I wonder to myself sometimes, on trivial things, what is the meaning of this or that? Whats the use? I grew up on a military post and I know nothing of military life in the sense of being enlisted but I believe that in light of what the reasons are for going to Iraq, whether good or bad, there is a chance or "use" to make something good of it. Something that says "Hey, America did this and

these things happened but look what has become of it now"....

What I think I am trying to say overall is that there is a chance or opportunity if you will to make right what is wrong; to still give honor to those who sacraficed their time and those who sacraficed their lives. I'm going to use this as a poor analogy but nonetheless an analogy. Its like having doo-doo, you can use doo-doo on a flower bed as fertalizer and eventually you will have pretty looking flowers. You can take the worst of things and make the best of things.

I guess a big problem is that what we Americans think is 'doing right by the Iraqis' is probably not the same thing that the Iraqis would want done by them.

I'm re-reading 'The Guns of August' again and am very struck by how similar our country's behavior in all this has been to that of pre-WW I Germany. We project our own wishes on others and then fail to understand why they would want different things for themselves. Our not enough exposure to other cultures doesn't help, I suppose.
