  • As far as squatting, well that would be wonderful to let homeless people live in vacant houses but in Texas (not sure about the rest of the US), if someone lives in a house longer than 1 year, it is very very difficult to get them out. I have known people that use this law to their advantage to live "rent free" while they save for the house they really want. It is so common it should be a crime. Everyone is so dishonest these days, that you can not trust anyone, so everyone suffers...

  • In a few states in the US, some people who are without houses are allowed to live in Large Houses, mansions, that need upkeep and they sign a contract to live in house and take care of it until it sells.

  • In these times wouldn't it be smart to let the people who are getting foreclosed on stay in their home until it sells. In the US many of these foreclosures have been held away from the open market so they remain on the "Asset" side of the balance sheet even though they are considered Toxic....this was one of the main reasons for the so called 'Stress Test' that Timmy and the boys did in February...the results of which are supposedly being released today...we'll see;(

  • They call it jingle mail when they send back their keys.

  • but maybe in the US there are too many houses, i heard people bought two or three houses. So if in big areas people are leaving, it will be a ghost town, unless you destroy the houses of course (what is a shame seems to me).

And who will keep on paying their mortgage if they can move in to another house for free. In the US you can send your keys back to the bank without a problem, and then move for free into an empty house?
